I think the verdict is one that can lead to the best outcome for all parties. I don’t believe LK caused MB’s mental problems. That started long ago.

Consider that before LK started her campaign, aided and abetted by daddy and RG, MB ran two large barns successfully, had students and friends, loved teaching and riding, had a classic car hobby and seemed to be managing quite well. Cue LK and RG and their stated intent to ruin/finish the bastard… and their destructive acts and words towards that goal that made others around them uneasy and paranoid… and MB started a downward spiral. Ninja-LaLa most definitely did have a hand in his mental decline at that time - and she was proud of it. MB’s paranoia was justified and understandable. What happened on that final day… when LK likely thought she had everything under control (as she is so very clever and bright) … was the tragic result of all the games and “fun”. Shooting someone was not the correct solution in any way - but as the jury correctly figured out, that did not come out of nowhere…

IMO, MB is not the only one who needs to be evaluated as to his current mental state.

No - as I just said (bolded now), the jury correctly figured out that the shooting did not come out of nowhere… hence NGRI.

Regrettably, the jury could not ask that LK be evaluated as well…

You have either never dealt with someone in this type of situation or you have a personal relationship with the squatters. This whole idea that it’s MB’s fault because he wasn’t “nice enough” while people were attempting to destroy his life is disgusting.

When we were renting a property to a relative they did not make rent payments for almost an entire year. We asked for partial payments, we asked that they work it off, we asked all sorts of nice ways. When we sent them an eviction notice they were ENRAGED that we did not understand the “situation” they were in. We literally sold the house with them living in it. They were still living in it 24 hours before close because they said the new owners wouldn’t have the keys until at least noon so they had until then to move.

They weren’t squatters by the legal definition.

I am not related in any way to any of the principals.

I fault MB for declining to attempt to evict her at the point he wanted her gone, and declining to get a restraining order. Instead both sides continued to escalate. Either side could have chosen to de-escalate but neither did.

Uhm NOT getting an eviction order placed IS de-escalation. GETTING an eviction order placed is normally considered escalation.

IM stated that SGF acknowledged that they owed RG for renovations. He didn’t say the amount. He didn’t say whether or not they felt extorted.

I think both IM and the lawyers for SGF are in a better position to know the details than anyone on this thread.

Why do you think IM’s claims are credible?

I think it is a logical move on the part of a civil lawyer for SGF who wants to get SGF extricated from the lawsuit at the lowest cost.

And extortion is exactly what it is.

And you’re proposing extortion for a matter that has absolutely no legal basis. RG isn’t entitled to a thing. If he sued, treble damages AGAINST him are highly likely. That’s why he isn’t suing as a plaintiff. And that’s why he would be looking to negate the facts via extortion on a little old couple people think are too old, weak and afraid to know any better.

Also, it would extremely sensible and rational for SGF to offer to settle amicably with RG if that would make LK more likely to accept a settlement and let them out of the suit.

WRT daddy o paying the bills - somewhere back through these threads I believe there was speculation as to whether there may have been some sort of financial conservatorship.
I don’t pretend to know much about conservatorships, and probably hadn’t heard of such a thing until the well known singer’s case - but would it be an appropriate strategy in this case? LK is simply going to go on in the same way and surely that despicable sequences of messages to GJ (amongst everything else) would indicate the need for some sort of intervention as to her mental state? I can kind of understand Mrs. K. coming in here immediately after the trial and being all momma-bearish but a step back to look at what her daughter needs might actually be of help.
