I hope your daughter gets the help she needs. The jury found her to be an unreliable historian. There is a reason they saw her that way.

MB was decided to be not criminally liable for the crime he committed* because he met the bar for criminal insanity.

Unfortunately, people with mental illness are not equipped with the emotional tools they need to deal with a lot of negative people or events in their lives. The other people at the barn were tense and upset, but I got the impression that they were more worried about MB than fearful of LK. I could be wrong, but that’s the impression I got. Let’s put it this way, Barisone and MH became romantically involved a couple of years before his divorce from Kessels, who was also his business partner. He stood to lose a lot in that divorce and he did. $965k

That is not the case. The state proved that he shot her beyond a reasonable doubt. The defense proved that he was insane. Much evidence in the trial showed that he was suffering from mental illness long before Lauren and Rob came along including info from his own testimony.

The posts from IM and Kirby have left me very sad. Sad may not be quite the right word… maybe troubled? I understand the need to protect… but one should also correct and educate. I know the smoofox family would have given me a heads up… half halt… and sliding stop long ago if I was on that path…

I hope the Kanarek family gets over their gloating and celebrations (when there is no need to celebrate these events) and somehow finds some peace… based on the little I have heard and seen… that may be hard. Good luck to you.

Staying he had serious problems with mental illness long before he met LK is not necessarily true. He had struggles but he coped and got help. How many people are just like that but we don’t say that they had serious mental illness. Obviously he developed serious mental illness but that was due to the strain of dealing with LK and RG… Maybe I missed something in the trial but that is how read it.

My father went into a deep depression after losing a big contract. I never knew depression could be so frightening. That happened when he was 52. He sold his business and never worked again. He did a lot of volunteer work, but he walked away from the profession that had sustained our family. Thank goodness my mother was about as stable as they come. I only saw flashes of the father I remembered in the ensuing 28 years until his death. I didn’t love him any less, but I mourned the loss of our rock.

What? No, my question was if you had any facts pertaining to MB/MH relationship, it is now obvious you do not.

This is a good point and something I wondered when people immediately wondered about SafeSport reinstating him. Will he even want that? Does he even want to continue as a trainer/instructor/barn owner? I’m not so sure. It looks like he has a long way to go to get back to normal. I wish him the best, but I would definitely understand if he just decided to go get a job at the library or something.

YES. It was even said on the stand that they did not want to be anywhere near LK and RG. Sometimes I feel as if I was watching a different trial. Maybe it was because I watched most of it late at night when I was finally inside for the night. Words may have magically changed in the transition from Live on the East Coast to 11:30 pm PDT.

Yes, the point of my post was that he was healthy enough and functional enough to reach the highest level of the sport and stay there for at least eight years before he crossed paths with LK.

IdahoRider was incorrect in saying the verdict indicated the jury disbelieved LK. The jury acknowledged that MB committed the crime of attempted murder wrt LK, and also determined that MB was not criminally responsible for the crime, due to testimony that he was legally insane.

Yes and no. The jury clearly didn’t believe LK’s claims that MB was plotting her murder for weeks and this was a deliberate, pre-meditated act. They also didn’t believe the evidence corroborated her claims that MB tried to kill, or even shot at RG.

once he gets out he might want to go thank the surgeons at Morristown Memorial Hospital who saved LK…she was fortunate to have a Level I Trauma Center so close …there are only 190 such centers in the US

Without her living it would be very questionable if the outcome would have been the same
