Barn fire at Cudmore's Heartland Farm

The mares and youngsters live outside, that saved their lives. But wow, that is some cold weather to live out 24/7.

Nah, it’s Nebraska. Plenty of horses are 24/7 turnout in this area, often not blanketed. It’s more about acclimation and enough hay, but the average winter day isn’t bad if full coat or blanketed and there is some form of wind shelter/break. Unfortunately this happened in a bitter cold snap. My trainer showed me pics of some of the horses being treated - I wish she didn’t. The local community seems to really be rallying, but I can’t imagine the emotional cost everyone involved is going through.

I feel like no one besides the horses’ owner should have taken pictures during that time. Their suffering should have at least been given some respect and dignity, IMO. Very, very sad scene.

Agree, I was caught off-guard with the pictures. I did get the impression it was sent by the owner (I don’t know if boarder horse or breeding or show stock and didn’t ask), but I also just felt so weird being there. But I’m sure every barn owner in the area is processing their worst nightmare happening next door.
