Bensmom saddle soap - the review thread (if that's okay with Bensmom)

I was just looking at my dwindling soap supply last night while cleaning one of my many many many bridles…I too am waiting on this special seasonal scent!

Peppermint maybe? That seems like it would be an easy scent…

Libby, I would love it if you threw in a few business cards in the package, and a little poster maybe for the water cooler bulletin board. I’m always loaning out your jar of soap, and people ask me where to get it. It would be nice if had something to hand them.

Higher Standards Leather Care: Max Corcoran tested, George Morris approved.[/QUOTE]

I think THIS ^^^ belongs on a t-shirt

I used it on my Tahoe’s seats this weekend. Please keep in mind: we bought this poor truck used - and abused by a boy’s soccer team (I spent five h o u r s  detailing it when I got it home from the dealer; there was soda on the headliner for Pete’s sake!! - in March 2007.

I had to change my water 3 times (and didn’t even DO the third row folding seats (truthfully, I’m a little scared to)) – and I do clean my car thoroughly at least 4 times a year!

My seats are SO clean and happy! I used the conditioning balm on the front seats as well. No residue, not slippery, and no residue on my clothes (I left on a 3 hour road trip about an hour after I did the seats).

I used the washcloth that I had done the seats with (after rinsing) to wipe down the dashboard. I drove through miles of cornfields & down gravel roads with my windows open, and was at a horse arena all day the following day with my car windows cracked, and there was no dust on my dashboard - perhaps there are some dust repelling properties as well?

OCTOBER LIMITED EDITION SCENT!!!

We are excited to unveil our newest limited edition scent, Starla’s Sugar & Spice!!

Available only in the month of October, this limited edition scent is named for, and inspired by, Elizabeth Anne’s mare “Heavens Tour”, or Starla. Elizabeth won the CANTER Mid-Atlantic Auction for the Higher Standards Leather Care package, which included the opportunity to have a limited edition soap named in her horse’s honor. When Elizabeth told us that Starla – A CANTER alumna herself-- is a sweet mare “but also has an opinionated streak” we knew right away that something a little sweet and a little spicy would be perfect. The warm and sugary scent of this soap will also get you in the right frame of mind for fall!

Don’t delay… snap up this limited edition soap starting tomorrow, October 1st!
(but, you know, let Libby get her morning started before you bombard her with orders!)

Yay! Now you all know the secret of the limited edition scent – I have to confess, I really love this one!

I fiddled and fiddle with the scent blend, and finally found one that smelled like my favorite parts of Fall, and that perfectly matched the personality of its namesake!

Thank you to everyone who bid in the CANTER auction and helped to raise so much money for such a great organization!

Now, plan to enjoy the special soap!!

Libby (who actually cleaned her own tack yesterday, and just have to say, even if it is my own product, that I just love the leather balm! )

Sugar and Spice, how nice!

Can’t wait

Annnnddddd, it’s live!! I love you guys, and suspense is great, but I’m going to bed, so y’all are the first to know that I’m not waiting until midnight to hit the publish button!

This stuff is really nice, even if I do say so myself!

Mr FlightCheck approves of the cleaner and conditioner for his leather seats in the Cadillac

As Bensmom knows, that is praise indeed!

Whoa. Mr. Flightcheck is SERIOUS about car detailing (and indeed, about all details!). I am impressed!

I will get you some of the new stuff in the mail tomorrow

So excited! Libby, while I’m waiting for it to arrive, can you describe the scent? What kind of spice?

It smells sort of like a spice cookie – allspice is predominant  A little like pumpkin pie spice but without the cinnamon. I tried it with the cinnamon, and it just wasn’t quite right – too Christmassy.

We will save that for the December special scent!!

Y’all go buy some!

Libby, on a totally different note- do you think your containers are microwave safe? As the temperature’s dropped, I’ve noticed a definite difference in the texture of my balm, and I was wondering if I could just nuke it for 15 seconds to make it spread better.

You were right! The balm is the bomb!!! I love it. My tack is so beautiful tonight I don’t even want to put it on tomorrow!

Just ordered 2 Starla’s Sugar and Spice and a leather balm! One Sugar and Spice will go to my daughter for her 9th birthday, what better scent for my sweet and sassy girl?? Can’t wait to smell it! Of course, I got a tester and it smelled so good it took me several days to stop picking it up a taking a sniff every time I passed the tub and actually take it to the barn!!

Renn – you can microwave them. Short bursts are best.

I’m thinking I need to adjust the formula maybe for winter to make it easier to work with? When it is chilly, it does set up pretty firm. I work mine in with my hands, so that the warmth in my hands gets it more melty, but that may not work in winter :frowning: I wouldn’t nuke it for too long, but I’ve done 15 second bursts and been ok. If the temp gets too hot, though, they will warp.

Ask me how I know. :sigh:

The sugar and spice is the result of me testing and combining different scents – i sure hope people like it!!

Libby (who appreciates you all way more than you know!)

I have a coooooold back porch (where my cleaning supplies live) and it was hard as a rock. I set it in a bowl of scalding hot tap water while I cleaned the my tack…it was nice and malleable when I got the balming part of the job-might be another option if you’re worried about warping the jar?

My balm is in a heated/air conditioned tack room (a necessity if you don’t want your tack to mold in the summer around here), and the balm consistency is great. I worry that if you fiddle with the consistency for the seasons, it won’t be the right consistency for most people most of the year. Seems better to either let people warm their own as needed or make two separate consistencies and let customers choose.

I finally jumped on the Higher Standards train this week…I really like it  It made my cheapy bridles look new again! And it smelled good to boot.

ETA: Bensmom-the candies were a nice touch!

Excited!

I placed my order today!! I’m soooo excited!
