Bensmom saddle soap - the review thread (if that's okay with Bensmom)

What do you use to buff your tack with?

I really love the stuff - i am planning to do a before and after with my friends schooling bridles from her lesson barn. I’ll take pics and post to your FB page.

Oh - and i am in LOVE with how the Oct. scent smells… <3

Sometimes sticky is good! Think of all the money we’ll save on Half-Halt Spray and Stick Tight.

Meanwhile, i managed to drop a jar again. The jar bounced (as I praised it for earlier), but the lid shattered. :frowning: I need to put something along the side of my wire shelf to keep the jar from flying onto the concrete floor…

Public service announcement: The Starla’s Sugar & Spice smells so much like a freshly-baked holiday spice cookie that you will be tempted to lick it. As you stand in the tack room with your nose in the jar, sniffing & whuffing, the sweet & spice will go straight to your brain, your salivary glands will kick in, and you will start drooling. If you casually mention to someone (say, wildlifer on COTH) that you REALLY want to lick it, and she dares you to (which you of course have to accept), you will forever be that weird-o that stands in the tack room licking saddle soap.

By the way, it actually tastes pretty decent!

For buffing the saddle after the conditioner has a chance to sink in, I have some automotive cloths that are supposedly lint free and they work really well.

Frizzle – you are nuts. I haven’t had anyone else taste the stuff!! Do I need to label the October scent “not for human consumption?” It does smell like a spice cookie . . .

Do we need to talk about your childhood? Were you the kid that had a baggie of broccoli when the other kids had oreos?

 Come on now–I have tasted horse feed, supplements, cookies, dewormer (the “apple-flavored” is NOT apple-flavored), a Lick-It thingy, etc. and I KNOW I’m not the only one!

I did taste chalk and some other weird stuff as a child, but I definitely didn’t carry around a bag of broccoli. Although I do love broccoli! And Oreos (except for the fact that they get all stuck in your teeth)!

Whoa

I just got my Starla’s Sugar & Spice.

The smell is subtle at first. It grows with subsequent inhalations. It’s like a fine sugar cookie with just a hint of spice. It makes me want to start making Christmas cookies!!!
I know it’s a fall scent but really, it makes me think of the holidays.

I’m so glad I got it before 10/31. I shall start using it tomorrow. I like having a variety of scents to work from after my rides

I’m so glad y’all like it! But I wouldn’t recommend tasting it – just sayin’ As far as I know, Frizzle hasn’t been made deathly ill or anything, but I wouldn’t recommend it! It does smell really good though, even if I do say so myself!

So excited – one of my favorite blogs posted a review today! Thanks, Amanda!! A Fat Girl & Fat Horse blog And there is even a surprise in Amanda’s blog post!

A question for y’all . . .

Several people have said during this thread that they would love people soap. I’ve played around with some ideas – if I were to have some people items, do you like the scents well enough that it would make sense to have matching people scents, or should they be somewhat different?

Thanks for any and all input!!

Libby

Just checking in to say that I’m still alive and have not been poisoned, deathly or otherwise, by licking the soap. Unless I’m undead & just don’t know it yet. Will have to continue monitoring my alive-ness status.

Frizzle: it is October, so you really could be undead and in season (in the fashionalbe sense of the word of course).

Bensmom, do you ship to Canada? This will be a perfect Christmas gift for my sister (and to me)!

we do ship to Canada!!

WinsomeTK, I don’t feel like I’m in season. Then again, even if I were, there aren’t any stallions in my paddock.

Bummer.

And, of course, yay for Shipping to Canada!!

just got my order (first time buyer =) in rosemary-mint and vanilla-lavender to send off with my trainer/friend to her CCI* at Galway. Told her it was to give her good luck and clean tack. thank you !!

Ahhhhhhh!!! Got my Starla’s Sugar n Spice yesterday - it smells SOOO goood! I even made my husband smell it - he loves the scent, too! (He thought it smelled like egg nog).

I almost brought it with me to work today so I could just sit and smell it every once in a while. I resisted the temptation when I left this morning, but I go home for lunch…

ETA - Forgot to mention that:
A) My husband also “tried” the soap in the same manner as Frizzle, and
B) He is also in favor of people soap.

Ooooh, I have an oatmeal spice people soap that I finished this weekend . . .

Just checking…I didn’t see the holiday samples on Etsy. Are they not ready yet? I don’t want to miss getting my order in!
