Bensmom saddle soap - the review thread (if that's okay with Bensmom)

The scents on Etsy are what’s currently available. There’s a limited edition scent about every other month.

My name is Striker and I approve this soap.

I lovelovelove the video!!! Just shared it on the FB page – one of the things I like LEAST about FB’s management of pages is that it is hard for others to see what people share on a page, and frequently, if it is a business or a product I’m interested in, I’d much rather hear/read what other customers have to say. Sigh.

In any event, I shared a link to it too, so that even more folks can enjoy Striker checking out his own scent.

Guys, I am just blown away by all the nice things y’all have said! I am so glad that it has worked so well for everyone! I cleaned a pair of my own field boots that I am putting up for sale, and was pretty darn pleased with both the soap and the balm (good thing I like my own stuff, huh?)

Well Worn Bridle – I don’t have many tack stores carrying it yet, but feel free to ask/harass your local tack store into ordering some! Amastrike is correct that the scents that are available are all listed on the etsy site. I’m still planning to get it moved onto my own e-commerce site, but I haven’t gotten that done yet!

I do have a couple of sponsored riders in PA who would, I’m sure, be glad to let you check out their soap, but I think they have all flown south for the winter :frowning:

Shoot me an email – contact info on the website, if you have any questions I haven’t answered here!

Thank you, thank you, thank you – and now, back to Frizzle’s attempt to rescue the soap from the wall . . . how in the heck did it get in there, anyway?!!

Libby (and if you don’t get it out, I have a partially used container of vanilla mint you can take home with you in March after Red Hills  but let’s do keep brainstorming, this is almost as much fun as the stuck chicken!!)

Libby, the double-wall is open @ the top, and I set the soap on the edge of one of the boards (they’re pretty thick) as I was cleaning my bridle. That’s where my bridle hangs (my rack is the second from the left in the pic, w/my bridle, feed bag, & leather halter). This is totally the kind of thing that would happen to me!

I wasn’t kidding when I said he’ll eat anything! He was hesitant to take food after someone gave him a peanut butter sandwich and it got stuck to the roof of his mouth, but other than that…

Frizzle, what would happen if BO’s keys or cellphone just so happened to accidentally fall into the wall with the soap? Would she open up the wall then?

Got mine last week (Yay!) Tonight cleaned and conditioned two saddles, including one of my endurance saddles that gets used pretty hard (22 miles just this weekend). I honestly can’t remember the last time I cleaned it  That saddle is over 20 years old and has had a zillion miles of use. It looks PHENOMENAL! So soft, supple and it actually looks black again!

And the smell…oh it’s heaven. Ben’s Rosemary Mint is divine. And the leather conditioner smells like chocolate to me. My dogs tried to sneak off with my rag when I was done

I will be sharing this with the ladies at the barn. Expect more orders! Thank you all for exposing me to my new favorite product!

slaps amastrike’s wrist That is a very, VERY naughty amastrike!!

I just have to go out a bit early and try a few of the options here. Can’t really do it while the horse is in his stall b/c he will flip out (he was abused when he was younger, and is an Arab, so a little on the sensitive side). He wasn’t even happy about me taking the pics! He is one o the BO’s horses, and he is out all day & comes into the stall when she comes home from work.

I vote for a long garden hoe. You could insert it all the way down, slide the metal part of the hoe under the soap, and retrieve it up!

Frizzle, we need pictures of the soap retrieval device!

Well Worn, I like amastrike also have a collection of soaps and conditioners, including some that cost more than the HSLC. I’d give them away but all my friends now use HSLC as well and no one wants them so I’ll probably throw them out when we move. It’s seriously the best stuff I’ve ever used, no sticky residue, no icky feeling hands and it smells divine![/QUOTE]

Donate them to a college riding program. That’s what I plan to do. If you want to ship them, I can give you the address of my daughter’s college program. Alternatively, a handicapped riding program. Someone will want the stuff.

That’s a great idea IFG! Perhaps Bensmom need to start including a list of places that will accept all the tack cleaning supplies we no longer use with her soaps

Seriously though, making a list of places where to donate cleaners would be great because I’m sure I’m not the only one who wants to unload their old cleaning stash…

What?? I was just wondering what she would do if something of hers somehow ended up inside the wall! gasp You think I was suggesting you throw her keys in the wall? Why, I never!!

I’m going to donate my crappy old cleaning stuff to my barn… they have lots of lesson students and summer camp kids who could use leather cleaning stuff. Although I feel like HSLC soap would be even better for them, since it smells good and works better and is easier to use… but I’m not sharing my magic soap with kids who won’t appreciate it!

Libby, have you thought about making up flyers or brochures or something? I ask because there’s a huge tack swap in my area at the end of February (last year there were something like 100 tables, and it was so crowded you could barely move from one table to the next!)… Some friends and I will have a table selling tons of stuff, and I’d love to advertise HSLC!

 Well, if her keys did accidentally fall down there, it wouldn’t be a problem b/c we have two of those giant magnet-on-a-pole thingies to run around the paddocks for loose nails and what-not. I wish the soap container was metallic because then it would be an easy retrieval!

Thinking about going out early tomorrow. Will have to make sure I put the steak knife and duct tape under the car seat or something because, with my luck, I would get pulled over and I just can’t see explaining that one to the officer. “Well, you see, my saddle soap is stuck between a double half-wall, and I’m going to fashion a spear-fishing device out of a broom handle and this here knife and duct tape. Here, let me take out my phone and show you the pictures, and the internet conversation about the soap rescue mission.” Yes, I’m sure that would go over very well indeed.

Good idea, but I ain’t got no hoes. Or any other type of gardening tool–I’m a plant killer, so I don’t even try.

I’m tellin’ ya, spatula!

On a stick? Maybe I’ll add a spatula to the list of things to bring: knife, duct tape, spatula. Will also try a pitchfork (if it will fit).

Go go gadget arm??

Oh, and Libby, I got my vanilla citrus soap today and it is scrumptious-smelling!!!

A spatula might work! Especially if you could use a second broomstick to kind of corral it on there…

Just finished reading all 63 pages of this thread (good thing school was cancelled today due to the polar vortex!) and despite not owning my own horse, and thus not much tack, I’ve decided I need to try this stuff. Bensmom, if you are thinking ahead to upcoming special edition scents, could I suggest lime or grapefruit? I think lime/basil would be a particularly refreshing scent for spring and summer  Will write back in with a review once I try it!

That sounds a little too much like chopsticks, which I never quite got the hang of, unfortunately!

Frizzle, do you know a) an electrician or b) someone with a well-lit cathedral ceiling in their home? They make these great tools for changing lightbulbs. They look like a cross between a metal octopus and a basket on a long wand. Sort of like this :http://www.webstaurantstore.com/unger-bs010-sticky-fingers-light-bulb-changer/905BS010.html?utm_source=Shopzilla&utm_medium=cse&utm_campaign=Shopzilla+Campaign Look around and you might be able to borrow one.

Good luck!
