Bensmom saddle soap - the review thread (if that's okay with Bensmom)

I just spent WAY too long hemming and hawing – decisions, decisions!! – and finally ordered Citrus/Ginger and Confidence Blend + balms. I may squirrel one away as a gift… or maybe not ;). Can’t wait!!

Happy birthday to me! My new lemon HSLC cleaner was in my mailbox waiting for me as a special birthday treat.

Bensmom, any 4th of July sale?

Yes, I saw something on the Off Course thread, but the post disappeared. So thanks!

ETA the coupon is not valid.

It’s still there. Looks like you might need an exclamation point at the end, a la BOOM! : http://www.chronofhorse.com/forum/showthread.php?441004-Independence-Day-Sales!&p=7649639#post7649639

I was in the wrong forum, so thanks! Trying the lemon this time.

I just bought some! the Confidence one.

Yay! Sorry, guys! I was in the barn with the Princess for the afternoon and early evening, watching her get a massage and then tending to her on-stall-rest-every-need and I just saw that there was a question!

Yes, the sale code is “BOOM!”

Thanks for shopping with us, and a Happy 4th to all of you!

We’ll be hiding from the town’s BOOM! fest that is staged in a field that shares a fenceline with one of my pastures. I’m moving everyone to the house, and administering happy juice!

I’m going to brag just a little - I got to smell the Lemon scent that was up at Devon. YUMMY!!! Gyale, I think the Confidence is my favorite - it is so “clean” and “fresh” smelling.

How long will Viva Carlos Lemon scent be available?

It is almost gone . . .

Ok, guys – I received mine a couple of weeks ago and here is my review… I ordered Confidence Blend and Citrus/Ginger with the thought that I’d keep one and give the other as a gift. Ha! Not a chance… :D. One set now stays at home and the other is at the barn. The Confidence blend is very nice but I LOVE the citrus/ginger. (I hope more citrusy scents may be coming in future… hint, hint…). The soap/balm combo smells great, cuts through nasty grime, doesn’t build up, leaves leather supple, is extremely pleasant to use… all that good stuff. It also has unintended side effects.

  1. I now enjoy cleaning my tack so much that my tack is sparkling clean ALL. THE. TIME. (It has taken over 30 years to finally instil this Pony Club habit – never say never. My old BHS-trained instructor would weep with joy…). My coach even commented on my beautiful turnout for every lesson. I’m even wearing a damn hairnet.

  2. I now enjoy cleaning my tack so much that I ended up cleaning all the bits and pieces lying around in my tack box and basement. Which inspired me to clean those areas out. Which shocked my husband, but made him very, very grateful.

So, Bensmom’s saddle soap will clean your tack, create better habits, impress your coach and improve your marriage.

(And I will order more for gifts – I want to spread the gospel.)

Thanks, Bensmom!!

How long do we think an unopened jar will last. I might have scooped up some Devon soaps for x-mas gifts, but now I am second guessing if that was wise?!

I can’t imagine it would be a problem… I mean, nothing bad happens to an open jar (doesn’t lose scent, go rancid, etc), so I wouldn’t think anything like that would happen to a closed jar. I have a very infrequently used jar in Atlanta (like, it gets used once every six-ish months), and it is perfectly fine, even through temperature extremes.

I just don’t want it to get dried out. After a while, I’ve seen that with some saddle soaps in jars. I guess it partially depends how well-sealed the jar is?

Based on my trainer’s barely-used CinnaMint from Christmas–which she simply hasn’t gotten around to because she’s still burning through her can of Citrus Ginger–you’re probably gonna be fine.

I did dry out my Stella’s Sugar n’ Spice by accidentally leaving it open (like, wide open, no lid in sight) for 2 weeks. It still works fine, but it’s shriveled and ugly.

V- I would make sure it isn’t exposed to big temperature variations and would keep the lids on tightly, but it should be fine. I haven’t had any properly sealed jars dry out, but, that is said with this caveat – I haven’t been using these jars but a little over a year, so I can’t be totally sure.

I know what you are talking about with the soap drying up a bit and withering in other brands – I’ve only had that happen when I had some that was left at the bottom of a tack cleaning supplies box in the barn, which wasn’t temp controlled.

I think you will be fine, but if anything happens with it, let me know and I’ll do my best to replace it

Fargaloo – I think that is the first review that says our product will make you want to wear a hairnet! As always, we LOVE your reviews! Keep 'em coming!!

The soap is lovingly stored in my air conditioned house-- so I think it will remain an x-mas gift  thanks!!!

I’m SO EXCITED. I ordered soap last week after reading all of these wonderful reviews.

The tracking for USPS is so wonky though. It was in Florida on Monday, and the “expected delivery day” is July 14th. I just checked it a few minutes ago. Today my soap is in Louisiana? Where are they taking my soap??
