Best full seat breeches?

I’m in the market for a pair of full seats. I like the Pikeur/Arista/Cavallo styling, with the front zip-slash pocket, but those are WAY out of my budget. I have tried TWO pairs of Tuff Rider Kashmere breeches, and all I have to say is NO MORE TUFF RIDERS! The fit is totally off, and they LOOK cheap when you’re wearing them. My dad said so, and he’s not even very involved with dressage! (And, well, yeah, he WAS the one that paid for them, not me:) )

I am now thinking of either Dover’s Riding Sport Full-Seats (can’t make up my mind between the regular or low-rise, though), or Ovation’s Micro/Euroweave (which is better?) DX Superstick. I want white – I know, not the most practical for schooling, but I like the look:) I am 5’2, about, uh, 97 pounds, and wear a size 4-6 in skirts and jeans. I also still fit into kid’s size 16 jeans/khaki’s, but not kid’s breeches. (And no kid’s breeches have the style I want anyhow) So, can anyone tell me which of the above is better, and perhaps know what size I’d take? I have some old Devon-Aire KP’s that are a 26 and fit; I tried on a pair of Pikeur Lugana’s at my local tack shop in a 24 that fit perfectly, and I originally ordered a pair of TR Kashmere’s in a 28 that were ridiculously large around the waist. (And the pair I just ordered in the TR’s is a 24 that I can BARELY squeeze into)

So, anyone that has the Dover Riding Sport’s and/or the Ovation’s, let me know how the fit is (like if they run big/small, fall apart, etc.) I am more of a fan of cotton than synthetics-- I have a pair of Kerrits kid’s bootcut ribbed riding tights (which are nylon) that I absolutely hate because they are like wearing nothing at all-- every like breeze and puff of wind comes right through them, AND they make me sweat. And don’t get me started on the evils of polyester!

I’m no help as far as sizing goes, since I have HUGE hips, and always have to order the “shapely” breeches, even back in the day when I could wear a 28

But I can say that the Ovations I have have been very comfortable and are holding up well, and I also really like my Cotton Naturals. They’re decently thick, but very breathable.

I have the Riding sport ones, and they are quite nice for the price. One thing however (since your shorter, like me) the regular rise ones I bought are very high-waisted. Like granny-panties/mom-jeans high waisted. But that only bugs me on the ground, when I am in the saddle they feel great.

I love my FITS.

If you really love them, better price on the Pikeur Luganas here: http://www.amirashop.co.uk/acatalog/Pikeur_Lugana.html

There is a lady on ebay who sells Pikeurs, Cavallos, etc for cheaper (usually about $100 a pair + shipping) - her ebay store is Classic Dressage Marabella and her user name is eldragonverde2003. She’s very nice to deal with, usually if you send her your size, she’ll give you a list of everything she has.
I also like Dover’s Riding Sport Aquator breeches - they’re a bit thicker then the regular riding sport breeches and hold up really well. They make both a high waistband and a regular waist band version.

I thought he neddy breeches http://www.neddys.com/ fit like pikeurs but the full seat material is slightly thicker.

If you don’t like a “cheap” look I recommend staying away from the Riding Sports. I promptly returned the pair I ordered. It also was very uncomofortable in the private region, it had a wad of frabic bunched up there.
I haven’t tried the Ovations, but from reviews that I’ve read about other Ovation products, and I have their stirrup leathers, it’s not at the highest end of quality either. But then again neither is their price.

I love my Pikeur Luganas (bought in Germany for much less $$$), and I too wear them in a size smaller than other breeches. My other nice ones are a pair of John Fields that I had gotten on sale. Those come true to size.

Calevo.com based in Germany has great prices as well!

I love my Goode Rider breeches. Pricewise they are midway between the Riding Sport/Ovations (which I loathe) and Pikeurs.

Equetech breeches. Have just tried mine today after an acquaintance told me that she was throwing out her Cavellos in exchange for these (at half the price!!). I was in the hunt for another pair so thought I would give them a go…

The sticky bums were tested well and truly today, and they did their job amazingly - I would have been off had I been in my non-full seats!:uhoh:

Great stretch to them, a lot more comfortable than my more expensive competition jods, and they looked amazing too! Love the high waist with the belt look - they fit under my tails beautifully, and my short coat as well.

Obviously haven’t tested their durability, but aforementioned acquaintance has and said they are holding up really well

Try the Goode Rider low rise…and they run a tad small. They were not for me because I need a bit more waist but overall I thought they were a nice breech.

I’ve always ridden in Horka, and they are pretty reasonably priced, middle of the road, with better quality.

I have a pair of Riding Sport breeches which I have ridden in about 20 times. They are the low rise cut, but they hit me at an odd spot. They look a little worn out because the color has slightly faded, and the fabric doesn’t look as crisp as when I first got them. The quality isn’t absolutely horrible, but certainly not the best.

I just bought a pair of highline outfitters seersucker  breeches (20% off if you are a USEF member or I saw in ad in Practical Horseman/Dressage Today for 20% off) for just under $100, full seat. They run small, so size up. Love them–lots of compliments on my new chic look.

Riding Sports–I have the granny panty full seat pair with the baggy pockets and like them, but I’m tiny and the waist is definately snug and high. They run normal in sizing, but yes, high in the waist. I liked them because they were different looking. They are reasonably priced too!

I broke down and bought a pair of FITS. They are a bit strange looking, once you put them on they are quite flattering, and soooo comfortable. The segmented panels keep you from feeling like your butt cheeks are taped together!

Love them! I found no other FS comfortable.

I have the Ovations Euroweaves and they are great! The superstick material really keeps me in the saddle (better than full chaps I found out this weekend when my gelding threw a fit over laundry flapping in the breeze 50 yards away. A big leap/spook/spin combo would usually leave me in the dirt, but I was getting used to my super stick full seats for a show this weekend). I have first hand experience with the sticky seat!!(um…that’s sounds wrong )

Anyway, The Euroweaves are great and the fact that they are Dri-Lex lined means you are NOT going to sweat and get all slimy in them. Microweaves are a bit heavier fabric…not hotter, but heavier. I’ve had them a while now and they look new despite being thrown in the washer numerous times (cuz Lord knows I can’t keep white things white for nothing!)

Is that a good thing ?

I really love my Ovations for the price. They’re not comparable at all to my Pikeurs, but they’re still much better than other breeches in that price range.

OOPS!

Akk…no…you are NOT going to get slimy :stuck_out_tongue:
