I have determined there is no best brand of breeches. We all have different shapes, so the best breeches are relative to who is wearing them. I like Irideon and FITS. They are actually long enough for me. I have a super long rise, so the invention of low rise has created hellish breech shopping trips. In all honesty, most regular breeches fir me like low rise. Ahhhh…I could go on and on!
I really like the Ovation Euroweave breeches, I have a pair that I wear ALL the time, they are my favorite breeches!! (Even over some Pikeurs I never wear) But, I have an identical pair in a different color that just doesn’t fit the same… and I don’t like them near as much. Same breeches, same size, but they are just “ok”… so I don’t know! The material is really nice though, plenty of stretch and lightweight, but still enough material to wear well and look nice.
Right now Dover has a ton of items on clearance. I was looking at it last night and there are an assortment of breeches on there, I don’t know how many color/size options are still left though, but often it is the really small ones left when everything else is sold out.

You are not alone! Breech shopping has become almost impossible for me, also. Like you, I love my FITS and Irideon Cadence breeches, with my Kerrits HT pull-ons a favorite for more casual use in warmer weather (the regular fabric doesn’t fit the same )
I can’t wait for the low-rise fad to end, lol.
I am so glad you posted this as I am somewhat on the lookout for just about everything (boots, breeches, stock tie…saddle…ouch)right now and was having the same question. Good to know the Ovations are worth a shot. Is the sizing pretty “normal” on them? Meaning if I wear a certain size in say, Ariats (since I do jumpers too) would I probably wear the same size in the Ovations?

I’ve found that the Ovations tend to run a bit on the small side by like half a size (if that makes sense). I’m a 28 and wear a size 28, but they are nice and snug (which is how I like my breeches). If you are a 28 but like a little more room (like in Ariats or Tailored Sportsmans…yes I know this a dressage thread but I haven’t tried Pikurs yet so I can’t compare), go up a size.
Equissentials
Equissentials are the best full-seat breeches ever. I wear the regular weight even in the hot GA summer. I’ve tried FITs and the rest on this thread. Did not like them at all. Equissentials aren’t cheap, but they are fabulous. They wear forever, plus the deerskin recycles. But perhaps the best fact is the fit. Great for the ego. Go down a size. I normally wear a 28 and took a 26.

omg…I was looking at all the Ju-tey breeches…and the pictures sure are cracking me up! I mean, really…http://www.vrtack.com/catalog/jutey-micro-full-seat-breeches-p-812.html Can you tell a MAN took these? Not a professional photog, obviously…
Sorry, not to hijack the thread
OP, I reallllllly like Irideon Cadence…unfortunately they’re out of my budget right now, but someday!
I love Eurofit and RTS breeches.
Some less expensive breeches which have worked for me- Goode Rider but not the low rise. I got a couple of pairs on Ebay for about $15 each new and they have held up very well.
I also got a pair of Royal Highness breeches from Classic Saddlery which were under $100 very comfy and wear very well.
Stay away from the Riding Sport breeches. They fade very quickly and look old after a couple of washings.
I’ll say sorry upfront for hijacking, but while we’re talking about breeches, does anyone know where I can find white breeches in petite (either knee patch or full seat)? Dover carries one brand that offers petite in tan, but I’ve been unable to find white. I’m only 5’1", and regular breeches go down to my ankles leaving wrinkles in the thighs. Can’t go to junior sizes because I need a 30 waist.
Schneiders saddlery has just added a new line called “Stickyseat Tights”. I don’t know anything about them, but the price is great for schoolers IF they hold up. The summerweight only comes in taupe and the winterweight in black. The sticky patches look similar to FITS.
No clarino, only a real leather full seat that goes down the ENTIRE leg (not just under the knee since everyone’s knee hits at a different spot). I also still prefer pleated and looser on the leg so your thigh lays flatter. Doesn’t matter if you’re skinny or not, there’s a much better reason for a thigh that is NOT wrapped in spandex (I know it’s not spandex, I’m just making a point ).
Good to know that people who love their Irideons also like FITS. They are next on my list. BTW, I have Equissentials and do NOT like them. The fabric reminds me of sweat pants…although I love the deerskin. For those of you who mentioned the Irideons, how does the sizing compare in the FITS??
Haven’t read all the replies…but the only thing I can add is that, like well made tack, you get what you pay for in durability.
I have Kentucky and Pikeur’s that are over 10 years old (some even older) have held up well and still look great (and like with tack, with good care).
Find them on sale if you can if budget is a consideration.
FITS all the way. That’s all I wear anymore.
OMG! looks like the photographer was someone more used to taking photos for Playboy and Hustler from those pics!!
I would suck it up and by the Pikeur Luganas if that’s what you like. They last forever and they don’t fade much. I also like my Kentucky Melbourne Breeches. Very similar styling and sizing as the Luganas, but a bit cheaper.
Tropical Riders are really great! And if you wait for their sales, they are quite reasonable
another vote for Horka’s and the jean style are really sassy looking
Tropical riders have been the best so far. I wait for sales and buy them when they’re cheap. However, over the years I have discovered the extended leg breeches and prefer them over full seats now. You still have some grip in the seat bone/crouch area where you need it and I like less bulk under me. Nothing beats deer skin. They wash up great in Leather Therapy and still look new after my not-so-nice care.
FITS is now making an extended leg version and man oh man they are comfortable. Perfect for summer riding! I highly recommend them! And no strange pattern on your ass…
And as an aside I do like my old synthetic seated Eurostars. Cotton blend and stretchy, wash up well and affordable.

Me too. But you can’t buy them in the UK.
I’ll have to wait for a while for the £/$ exchange rate to be in the £ favour, but I have a couple of pairs left to keep me going.
