Best Hunter Stallion for movement

Finally ready to breed my pony mare. What are the best hunter sires to consider? Top on my list is a proven producer of the hack winner, assuming the temperament/jump accompany. Breeding for a AA pony hunter.
Mare is an 11h, typey import. Moves and jumps cute, well balanced, good brain but typical red mare attitude. I am looking to drastically improve the movement and have an easy personality to break. I want to end up with a medium.

As I said on H/J, movement mechanics are more influenced by the dam. She also raises the foal, so she has a significant influence on temperament. If you wouldn’t be happy with a carbon copy of the mare, don’t breed her.

I’m fine with the movement and temperament of the mare. she is consistent in her AA hack placement, just not the winner. I’m just looking to improve to create the best possible mover. Looking for stallions that contribute to making better movers and mentally sound.

First of all, how big is your mare?
Is this her first foal?
You won’t want to breed her to a hunter sire…need to know if she’s had foals previously?

VirginiaBred,
pony is 11h, first foal. I have a lot of experience breaking and bringing along young hunters, but not extremely proficient in the breeding aspect. Trying to do my research and talk to as many knowledgeable people as possible. Because she is so small, I wonder if I breed to a large pony or a horse in order to get a medium.

Your mare is 11 hands??? So she is a Section A? PLEASE don’t even consider breeding her to a horse stallion. That’s WAAAAAAY to large for a tiny mare of her size. Breed her to a Section B purbred welsh stallion first and see what you get. Stay with a larger Section B. You will get your medium.

What is her pedigree?

I’d breed her to Maple Side Mr. Magic. He consistently produces hack winning movers and good jumpers. Many of his offspring have won at the big AA shows. He will likely get you the medium pony size you are looking for.

German Riding Pony Bodyguard at Dreamscape Farm in BC. We have a 2016 colt here out of an unregistered sec B mare (12.3hh). Beautiful type, lovely movement and he’s going to be bigger than mom by at least 3 inches. Loves people too.

He’s a crossbred with some big genes in there. This mare is 11 hands!!! Never had a foal. You don’t want to kill her delivering. I’d stick with a purebred that is a large section B. Perhaps Crossgates Larasan (14 hands, Section B) or Smoke Tree Shameful Thief (14 hands Section B) or *Hilin Peredur (14 hands, Section B) or Evans Providence of the Night (13.2 1/4, Section B).

Smoke tree Snapdragon at Solomon Farms. Maybe he’s not totally hunter like… But what an awesome mover and gorgeous pony.

Thank you everyone, keep recommendations coming! I appreciate all the insight. Like I said, I am rather uneducated when it comes the actual breeding side of things. While I consider myself an educated horsewoman, I’ve always been on the breaking/training side of the barn, so to speak.
I have an excellent team/program should I decide to do this, but I need much more insight and research before I am even close to moving forward.
Sound like with my smaller, refined pony would do best with a large Sec B Welsh stallion. I do not know her exact breeding. She’s imported for Belgium but her pedigree is blank on her passport. I purchased her as a leadline/SS pony for my daughter so I did not care much about the pedigree nor did I have plans to breed.
But she’s turned out to be a much nicer, scopier pony than I expected. With a new barn and the ability to have a facility to raise ponies (not to mention I am a smaller adult so I will fit on ponies until I die) I thought I should breed her and see what we get. Would love a medium.
I have checked into all the stallion recommendations, but few have actual video showing jump and movement.

Any proven Sec B large pony stallions who seem to pass on the hack winning gene?

It’s difficult because you don’t know her pedigree, but she’s obviously a Section A. Go with Evans Providence of the Night (13.2 1/4, Section B). He has jaw dropping movement.

I disagree. Although he has some horse blood farther back, I don’t think he would create a foal that would cause complications on delivery. He himself is 13.3 I believe.
OP, contact Mr Magic’s owner and ask about his crosses to small ponies. The winning small green at pony finals this year (So Enchanted) is by Mr Magic.

You are missing the point. This is her FIRST FOAL. She is 11 hands. That is tiny!!! The safest thing to do would be to breed her to a purebred Section B Welsh where size is much more of a guarantee and see what she does with that. The stallions I’ve suggested are purebred and I’m well acquainted with their get.I’m a life long breeder too, so I know for a fact that crossbred stallions can pass along a throwback occasionally. While Mapleside Mr Magic is nice, he has a 16,2 hand grandsire in the mix. NO THANKS for this particular mare.

There is a limit for breeding mares of small sizes and this mare is not one I would ever breed due to her being so tiny.Too close to being a minuture to suit me.
If theowner is bound and determined, then I’d suggest an embro transfer and have the recipient mare be much larger.

Listen to VirginiaBred. She’d be my go to selecting a stud for an 11 hand maiden German Riding Pony. She walks the walk and knows a whole lot of people and Pony studs, their pedigree, show records plus what they put on the ground in size,
temperament and show record. If she doesn’t, she knows where to look and who to ask. Save you an expensive mistake.
