Best paddock boots for wide feet- Please help or I'm back to riding in sneakers!

So apparently I have wide feet, and apparently all manufacturers of boots and paddock shoes assume that riders have slim and dainty little feet. I used to just buy paddock boots 1 size larger and deal with the pinching and discomfort until they really started to break in, but I actually developed a lovely bunion from some Ariat paddock boots doing this. So now I really can’t wear tight boots!

Several years back I bought some Dublin Pilgrim boots which fit great, but they don’t make them anymore. I called the Ariat company and they make the Heritage paddock boots in a wide width, but only up to size 9 (I wear 9.5).

Out of desperation I thought about trying men’s boots, which are made a bit wider. However, a women’s 9.5 is equivalent to a men’s 7.5, and the men’s boots start at an 8.

Does anyone have suggestions for brands/models that fit wider feet? I can’t be the only person out there with this problem!

Men’s. And you have to buy the large size. I used to get Mtn horse because they had a lovely zip front boy’s paddock boot but I have a high arch and blew the zipper, and as you have discovered they either discontinue the model or just plain change them.

Let me know when you find a pair because I have been searching for years myself.

You could try Redbacks. They’re more of a barn boot but I’ve used them with 1/2 chaps and they were OK. I also have a wide foot so I do understand and sympathize.

Good luck.

My other issue is if it fits, then they get stuck in stirrups:(

Oh, a women’s 9.5 is a men’s 8.5 generally. You should be fine.

Redbacks or Blundstones.

Have you tried the Ariat round toe heritage zip paddocks? I have a bunion on my right foot and long/wide feet (10) and these are so comfy to me I wear nothing else.

I also have wide feet, and for years wore Blundstones until the quality went way down (manufacturing moved to Vietnam). I recently discovered Rossi boots, which are very similar but are made in Australia and the quality is fantastic!

Ariat - I wear an 11 wide and the only paddock boots that I have ever found that a) carry 11 wide’s and b) I can wear right off the shelf are Ariat’s.

Blundstone Cuthbertson/068 runs very wide- a women’s D+

Ariat round toe Heritage also runs very wide. Not all Ariats run so wide so try on a bunch- just because one style doesn’t fit you, another might.

I have extraordinarily wide feet and I wear the Blundstones- the chisel toe. The round-toed ones are too soft for me to ride in, though I do wear them around town.

I keep 5.25" stirrups in the car just in case for this very reason! (Never know when an interesting ride is going to be on offer…) My Blundstones (which I like for my wide feet, incidentally) aren’t all that big, but I used to ride in other boots with an oddly wide sole.

Scruffy - The Ariat Competitors run wide also - Those are the one’s I have and they last forever.

Never had a problem with them sticking in stirrups (English or western) either.

I swear by men’s Ariat Terrains, and I know I’ve seen them in size 7.5 before.

Ariat USED to make a wide paddock boot; not sure if they still do. Worth checking out, though.
The suggestion to buy men’s boots is a brilliant one. I’m going to remember that.

Made by Dehner to fit your feet. They look expensive on the front end, but they will literally last the rest of your life. And they fit. http://dehner.com/customshoes_paddock.html

Bo![](bproof got it right.

My current (3rd in almost 30yrs) pair of custom Dehners is 13yo & going strong.
Not only are my feet wide, but I have an uber-high arch. These boots feel like bedroom slippers from Day One.
After going through 2 sets of zippers in the 1st pair I switched to slip-ons.
Elastic insets are just now starting to loosen.
I got these:

In the dynatan leather they are water-resisitant too.

I have wide feet and a high arch, and the Ariat Barn Yard Side Zip boots are the most comfortable boots I’ve ever worn. (Have tried Blundstone, Redback, Mountain Horse, Merrill, Muck, and LL Bean)

I’ve had paddock boots made by Kroops in Laurel, MD and they were the BEST!! Lasted FOREVER. I sent in a foot tracing and a few other measurements and they mailed them to me. I also have a pair of Western boots from them - LOVE them. I’ve had them 3 years and wear them every day and they look new. Really really high quality footwear. I have wide feet and bunions - my favorite footwear is flip flops.

Just bought men’s Ariat wide Heritage paddock boots (will look at the actual correct name when I get to the barn on Monday). Broke down and went to Dover. The manager, who I’m friends with, happened to be there, and she measured me personally. She came up with 8.5 B, which I knew wasn’t right, but after some trial and error, I think I ended up with a men’s 9. They are very comfortable, and I didn’t have to special order them
