Is Erin still a moderator? I LOVED her posts, especially the smackdowns she could dish out.

That was another epic wreck, when real life and COTH collided. For a spell it looked as if the forum was a goner, because all the mods stepped down.
A small clique got their knickers in a wist and went out and about. I think phone calls to the home and office of the mods were part of it, scary stuff.
I miss her as chief cat herder!

I can’t remember what precipitated it, but he got into a tussle with a moderator (not on the open forums, behind the scenes) and basically challenged him/her to ban him. They did.
Personally, I think it was a mistake. He is a salty, opinionated bugger but he told it like it was and wouldn’t stand for any whining. Wish he lived near me - I could learn so much from him.

What happened to her was awful. When that happened I was thinking she needed to involve law enforcement… I was concerned for her safety. And the safety of her animals. Yikes.

My opinion of what happened is a bit different.
I think he was having a rough spot in his life.
T tended to be a bit short with those he considered less gifted in the thinking department and it show in his answers, was part of how he posted.
For some reason, the past days/weeks he had been even more short, to the point of being almost rude to some.
There was a discussion about poisonous weeds, seems that the poster was new here but there may have been previous history he had of strong dislike for that poster’s opinions, with good reason, as the strange ideas that poster presented could have been directly harmful to horses.
According to T, that poster even threaten/bothered him over the phone, T blew off at that poster here and was warned.
In his not very inhibited frame of mind, lets say that set him off and he was then a bit rude to the Moderator also.
So, all of us may have a bad day, say something innapropriate here and there.
At least we don’t have the high idea of ourselves, deserved or not, to keep fighting from our high horse as he seem to have done.
No matter who you are, there are rules to follow and he had been stepping a bit over the line and finally crossed it with both feet.
While being close to the line as an old demanding grumpy master was his internet persona, when you overplay your hand, well, there sometimes are consequences.
Then, we really don’t know, as they say, “the rest of the story”, just watching from the sidelines.
For what I have heard over time from those that know T personally, in real life he is a very nice, kind and considerate horsemen.
Bluey, I’ve seen people do much worse (like one poster starting a thread about a threatening email she received from another poster which ended up being a complete lie) and end up with a hand slap. The banning was overkill.
But it’s all water under the bridge, Thomas is busy with his successful horse/sheep operation and his life in the beautiful borderlands of England/Scotland. I’m sure he doesn’t lose any sleep over all this.

Well, maybe it was not so simple, since T had been getting more and more short lately, so that several other posters mentioned that they could see the banning coming, this was not just one, forgettable, hand slap worthy happening.
He had been warned previously already.
I think that the Moderators have to look after all posters and they did.
We need to be accountable for our actions, no matter who we are.
You are right, T’s wisdom is missed, his delivery of it of late, maybe not so much.

Then again, there have been people who got banned for far less.

I think that may have been the tbtrailrider person.
She who also started a thread about a horse needing emergency euthanasia in the middle of the worst winter we’ve had in decades. People and livestock trapped on farms, barns collapsing, roads closed, vets and ambulances unable to reach those needing assistance.
While a few of us were trying to figure out a way to get emergency assistance to this downed horse - it was discovered that the poster was lying about the whole thing.
She was a real piece of work.
