I recently sat in a friend’s Ricochet…it was pretty comfortable. Does anyone have experience with this as a jump saddle?
I have one and love it. Very balanced feel on the horse. I’ve had a Maelstrom and a Wexford due to different horses. Loved them all. I never feel like I am in a chair position. I am very comfortable doing flatwork in mine as well.
I have two and have been very pleased. They do have several different tree/seat/flap combinations, so your best bet will be to work with a fitter to make sure you get the right one for you and your horse. But, lovely construction, and very comfortable.
Happy shopping!
I would have got one if I’d found one used that fit me and my horse. I really liked them. I ended up getting a Loxley Fox Hunter, which was fairly similar.
I just got the tex eventer monoflap in Dec. I think the saddle looks a little odd with the monoflap, but is super comfortable and light. I’ve not done too much over 3 ft with it yet, but feel very tight in it and have taken a few good spooks that normally would have popped me up out of the tack. It puts me a little further back than the CWD I was riding in, but not in a bad way, just different. Fits the horse well, off the rack ( and he is a MW with big withers and 4) . Liked it so much that I am thinking about getting a dressage saddle for another horse
The Euro is dropping against the dollar. So is the Pound Sterling.
Does this mean saddle prices will drop?
I doubt it, one of the increases of price of saddles recently is the cost of leather.
I have a BC dressage saddle. Butt. Candy. Beautifully built, fit, & balanced. It was a gift, obviously, I do not live in that income bracket, but holy crap, my most treasured gift second only to the horse who wears it…
I have a Ricochet. It is my favorite saddle. I had the flap cut more forward and the buffalo style leather on the flaps. I have ridden in a lot of saddles, but it is my fave. It’s not Voltaire style leather, and hopefully it will not wear like French calf!! I would like to have it for a LONG time.
I have a Vinici jump model. I love it endlessly. I would love a custom dressage saddle of the same model. some day.
Love mine.
I just bought my first BC saddle a few weeks ago. I cannot explain other than, I now can jump fences and feel no movement other than my horse. For the first time ever, I think I am jumping in a saddle that actually fits me. It’s a very nice saddle.
I have a Ricochet for my TB (ordered new) and a Tex Eventer for my Trakehner (bought used, was a demo). I’m in love with Black Country, although I have to say I think I love my Ricochet more than my Tex (that may be due to the horses they’re on, though ;)) I tried an Eden on my TB and would have loved it except it was a half inch too small for me. I think they’re an excellent value for the price and would wholeheartedly recommend them!
It’s a great saddle that comes with a K panel. Many other options are also available with little or no charge from Black Country.
I have one. I’m selling it because it doesn’t work for me jumping, but it is a comfortable and quality saddle. My trainer and several others at my barn ride in Black Country saddles.
Five of my riding friends were looking for jump saddles. Each tried several different sadddles including my BCS Quantum. Since MY saddle is NOT for sale two bought Quantums, two the Ricochet. One bought a CWD. All please with choice
I have a Ricochet too… really like it but it no longer fits my horse! I ordered it with a forward flap and custom welting… gorgeous saddle, I’m sad to sell it.
I have two Etiennes. Love. Them. I have a hard time finding saddles that don’t get in my way; I am 5’3" and often the thigh blocks hit me in the knee on a saddle with a straighter flap. The Etienne’s more forward flap gives you the freedom of movement without losing security. I’ve ridden in the Ricochet too, it’d be my second choice. Not much of a fan of the Tex eventer.
I am now looking at getting a dressage saddle through them too. I’ve worked with Patty Merli, she is great.
ETA: I use mine for eventing and hunting, and it has held up fantastic. I am really, really hard on my saddles because when I hunt (I whip-in), I go through thick under brush and briars. It also often winds us covered in mud or sopping wet with rain. No joke, totally saturated, and they have come back, with proper cleaning and oiling, and you can’t even tell. I ride in mine a LOT, and after three years it still looks awesome.
Thank you all for this thread. I currently have a Ricochet on trial and a Wexford and I LOVE the Ricochet!!! My TB seemed pleased today as well. Now, I’ve dug around on their website, do any of yall know if I can get a Ricochet in Buffalo? (Just figured I’d ask since I can’t ask the Rep since it’s Saturday night at 9:30.). I just want something that will last for YEARS.
Yes, you can get the Ricochet in buffalo. It is a very popular saddle! I got one and everyone at the barn swooned!
