Blanket hardware (your preference in front closures)

Horseware fans and users, do you have a specific preference for the “regular” front closures on Amigo/Rambo blankets or the “V-snap” closures? Horse now wears the Amigo Bravo 12 line with the regular closures, but I was wondering about getting another blanket that is available in either front closure style. Not sure it really makes a difference, but…

Feedback?

(Yes, I did a search, but I never get any hits on search results on my phone.)

TIA!

My own preference is strongly for the v front. Love it. Fits all of my horses really well. Much easier to handle than the t locks.

V front, especially since I get the Wugs - the V seems to help the hang of the blanket on the neck and distribute pressure.

From a barn manager point of view (I do up and undo multiple blankets per day) snap fronts are easier to do. Especially with gloves on. Though the t-lock closures are still waaaaayyyy better than the good ol’ strap and buckle fronts. I hate those with a passion. (I know HW doesn’t make those, but there are plenty of boarders at my barn who buy blankets like this.)

I do find the V-neck shape is fairly narrow so if you have a horse with bulky shoulders it may not fit as well as the T-lock style closure.

I prefer the V-front, unless a horse is particularly hard on snaps for some reason. T locks are pretty much indestructible IME.

As a barn manager, anything that isn’t buckles is fine by me! (And I don’t make a fuss about buckles, but they’re a waste of time.)

I’ll be the exception-- I HATE the ones with the snaps and two separate Velcro closures. They are a serious pain in the butt. I prefer the t closures although as someone who typically uses blankets on multiple different horses I think the adjustability of the buckles is best.

Good to know. She’s not particularly broad or broad-shouldered, but she’s quite deep from wither to chest. One of my concerns about the V-front is that it would be tight around her neck because she is so deep there.

My horse is not wide or particularly broad-shouldered, but has a long, moderately sloping shoulder and a relatively deep chest. I love V-fronts, especially for that build!

I love this on the Rambos… 2 snaps and 2 velcro closures mean that at the barn, the workers might get at least one closed. I’ve actually seen one snap correctly used and the other snapped to the closure for one velcro to go through. When all 3 are done correctly, the chest is warm and secure.

What bothers me is there is one extra surcingle to worry about being too loose.
I pay for the services so if someone wants to charge me extra for more fasteners to attach, do so. Just do it right! I once found one of my horses with her blanket twisted all around her, fortunately in her stall, because the front had been left open entirely.

I feel you on that one. Mostly I just ignore the velcro closures. Or to be more precise, I make a half assed attempt at the bottom closure, I do the snaps and ignore the top closure. Nobody has froze to death yet. But I do like the V snaps OR barring that, a blanket with adjustable buckle straps PLUS snaps (best of both worlds)

I’m also not so certain why I ever thought THREE surcingle straps was all that cool…

(the degree to which my laziness climbs daily is quite impressive)

I liked the V front ones - one thing to do up or undo, and it’s a snap - even easier. Until I got a horse with a very pronounced sternum who hates it…

He proceeded to rip the front straps off his Rambo Duo, as well as the velcro thing there, so I sewed the front shut. He’s happy as a clam now!

I find the Rambo Wugs help with big shoulders/chest and high withers - I have a WB/TB cross with shark fin withers and the Wugs are the best of anything I’ve tried (and I’ve tried a bunch).

The high neck blankets from other brands with the other front closures tend to be tighter right at the bottom of the neck opening and don’t glide up the mane and give room to the shoulders as well as the Rambo Wugs. I also can’t guarantee that the Amigo or Rhino Wugs would fit exactly the same as the Rambo.

This is good to know! I’ve been avoiding Wugs because I’ve had such bad experiences with high-necks from other brands. Maybe I’ll give them a try next time I buy blankets…

I prefer the T-closure.
Second would be the two clips to the single ring.
Third would be buckles and buckles with adjustable straps (even more crap the break). I don’t own any blankets with buckles.

I have a horse with a long shoulder and a decent wither so the Amigos sit just perfect on him…

The v front with snaps is ok but I really love the blanket with adjustable buckle straps PLUS snaps (best of both worlds)

Yes, there are differences even amongst the Horseware lines. I just tried on my horse a 78 Rambo Wug and a 78 Rhino Wug. The Rambo fit her way better (sadly for my pocketbook).

Has anyone tried the new Disc closure system on horsewares new blankets? They look bizarre, but wondering if it makes the snapping and velcro-ing a breeze!

Good to hear this, too. She also has a very pronounced sternum.

seabreeze try a Bossy’s Bib too - my guy really likes his. Otherwise he’s ripping at his blanket fronts all the time!

No, and I can’t find a picture that I’m able to zoom in enough to really see how it works. If you find a good photo, please share!
