I think 64 is adorable, but what do I know?
How tall do those ponies usually get? 12 or 13 hands?

12-13+, who knows. They introduced at least one Arab stallion a few generations back, and some of them are awfully hefty even if short. I figure if 71 doesnāt get to 13.1-ish at least I can teach her to drive. (Even if that may break Luckyās brain as the one thing he seems to find exceptionally weird is āseeing other horses pulling things.ā The first time he saw the pony at our old barn hitched up he went into full āDoes not computeā mode.)
One of those little ones would be so cool if I needed a flashy pony. My son rides a bigger horse than mine, lol. Maybe when the Godchildren get older. Two have natural seats and love horses.
Chincoteague auction is closed. Apparently, itās the best year ever. I did my part pushing up prices on buybacks but past where I was comfortable going.
Andā¦eep. I have until October to work out transporting and keeping what will be a weanling pony. I havenāt worked with a BABY baby in ages. And of course I have to come up with a name!
Which one did you get?
Checked the bids this afternoon and had to remind myself that, no, you already have a pony and cannot have a new one just because they are so adorable.
You were right on the little black Phantom Wings filly -$28K as a Buy Back!
And #70 confirmed as a filly!
@danceronice congratulations on your new pony! We will require regular photos once you get all that cuteness home.
Since you are in the know about these things, what made Lot 7, the bay pinto colt that was not a buy back sell for so much?
@trubandloki Pixieās colt! His new name is āDustyās Dreamā and the woman who bought him is in the āclass of 2020ā Facebook. Apparently heās a lifelong dream! (I think a lot of them are.) And all of the went high. The auction total for all the ponies, buybacks and take-homes, and the five or so non-pony items, was almost $400,000! Average pony price was mid-$5000. Itās an all-time record sale and #63, Aceās Miss Raven Rhapsody now, is not just the sale-topper but the new all-time record high selling pony. The fire department is beside themselves since they were afraid with the swim and the carnival and live auction and all the visitors not happening they were genuinely afraid theyād run short on funds and have to do things like cut scholarship funds and not replace equipment this year.
@bdj I got 71, Misty Millsās filly by Riptide. Her name for the pedigree book is going to be Riptideās Double Jeopardy, both because itās Jeopardy! money paying for her and because sheās two things I maintain I never wanted: a redheaded mare! Well, filly. Iām trying to wait until I meet her to decide on a barn name but I suspect itās going to be Ginger (for my other book/Breyer childhood fantasy.) I wonāt have her until fall as sheās only a couple weeks old, and sheāll probably spend a few days at least at the haulerās in PA being gentled and spending time with some other babies getting used to being weaned (shipper is a trainer who has bought . Sheāll be about three months in October when they do the fall roundup for late foals. Iāll have the winter to get her gentled and leading and such, and Iām hoping my neighbor who road drives and has a pony cart can help me start teaching her to drive. I tried with Lucky but between his arthritis and not generally getting the concept, it wasnāt his thing.
Congratulations, @danceronice ! I thought that was who you were bidding on! She is adorable and Iām thrilled for you! I canāt wait to hear more about her and hope youāll keep us updated.
And I love the name!
Congratulations on getting a pony, and on winning Jeopardy! Most impressive.
I guess I missed something? @danceronice you won Jeopardy? Congrats on getting a pony! Definitely a dream of mine as well.
There is a new date for pickup for the TIP Challenge. End of the month, Iām supposed to get a BLM burro to train and then compete with this winter. Everything is ready and I canāt wait to meet the surprise burro. Itās like a long eared grab bag! No idea how old or if male or female. Most likely older, adult, maybe sale authority.
Lol, yeah. This is one of the few remaining boards I visit where I donāt use my real name so itās not obvious. I was on in December and will be going back for the Tournament of Champions (whenever covid lets us have it!) This is probably my biggest āsilly purchaseā (but itāll make a better story than āI got new covered gutters and Iām going to have my garage torn down and replacedā and the vacation Iām booked on next year was paid for already. Plus the trip this year was cancelled, boo.) I wonāt get her until October so Iām trying not to go crazy on pony stuff yet.
@Moonlitoaks itās like a surprise Christmas present! When do you find outādo you go pick it up and they tell you this oneās yours?
Pretty much when I get there to pick up, they load the ass-igned burro into the trailer. They ass-sign by number.
I see what you did there.
My neighbor used to have donkeys. Iām not sure on the noise (we live a mile away and between the woods making it carry andā¦decibelsā¦they sometimes sounded like they were RIGHT outside.) But theyāre cute!
Waitā¦you won on Jeopardy!? I loooove that show.
That is so cool! Sometimes we watch and think weāre so smart, but adding the whole stagefright dimension, plus the time limits, would make it much harder in reality. My uncle went quite far in the tryouts, but he was just too deaf from serving in the military and then working on trains, lol!
I always wonderedā¦do the categories have anything to do with the playersā strengths? i mean do they select categories based on the players, or is it random?
The pop culture ones mess me up. I just donāt pay attention to actors, tv shows, or singers. I suppose they pick those questions based on movies or tv shows owned by the corporation, or by the broadcaster?
Thatās so cool! I love Jeopardy!
Moonlitoaks congrats on winning Jeopardy! How cool is that?
Oh no, not me!
Danceronice won on Jeopardy.
