Whoops that what I get for posting before my first cup of coffee. Congrats Danceronice!!
They have absolutely no way of knowing which players will get which games. Every morning the writers send up six games (they shoot five in one day) and the lawyer for the third-party compliance company who supervises filming draws five of them, and those are the five theyāll use. Alex and the half of the production crew we donāt get to talk to see them, no one in the contestant-wrangling side does. She also draws the next two players for each game (the returning champion obviously, well, returns) so we donāt know until immediately before the match when weāll play. I went in the third match my first day, so Iād had a little time to relax and watch a bit. Itās really actually a lot of fun, if really intense, once youāre playing! Itās one of the only things Iāve ever done where I just donāt have time to think too muchāyou just have to keep playing. (If only I could shut down the overthinking part of my brain when I ride!)
Still crossing my fingers for a horse category. I shouldnāt complain, other than the one match where there was āRock and Roll Hall of Fameā I was pretty lucky! (But seriously, if weāre going to have sports and pop music canāt we also have āObscure Famous Thoroughbredsā or āNovels Horse-Crazy Girls Read 27 Times a Month?ā
Jeopardy is a syndicated show and airs on different networks in different cities, so I donāt think they limit their question pool in that way.
@danceronice - thatās fascinating! Thanks so much for sharing! Are you allowed to say how far you went/how many games you played?
Since it aired in December, yes! (Weāre not allowed to talk about it before it airs and thereās usually like a two-month gap.) I played nine games, won eight. Iām currently #2 on the Tournament Tracker (behind Jason Zuffraneri and his $500,000-odd winnings.) Not sure when weāll get to play the Tournament, though, what with covid. I figure if I canāt use the money to travel right now, wellā¦pony.
Pony is always the right answer. Or BLM burro. Or mustang. Or twoā¦
Well, Iām back under a slightly different name due to technical issues. When I can do signatures, Iāll put my old screen name there (Moonlitoaks).
After several delays, the burros and Mustangs for a TIP Challenge arrived. I picked up my new burro yesterday. This morning, he let me scratch his withers several times. He is tense, but I think he will come around quickly. I spent a few hours just hanging out with him yesterday. Iāll do another session this afternoon. He is darker grey and about 12 hands. Heās from the Bullfrog HMA, so we named him Jeremiah, lol. I think he wants a friend. The horses over the fence next to his pen are a little scary for him (though the gelding wants to be friends soooo badly, lol). Time will do wonders for him.
Thatās wonderful, MoonlitOaks!
I think you should name him Jeopardy or Trebek.:yes: And WHERE are the pics?
That wasnāt me, lol!
Pictures? I will do that.
If anyone wants to read about my attempt to train Jeremiah, here is a link to my blog:
Awwwwā¦I would have fought myself over the urge to name him Brighty!
I remember that book fondly. I was trying to figure out treats, and, of course, pancakes popped in my mind, lol! He did eat a chunk of carrot a put on his hay this morning.
@MLOaks - youāre right. Temporary stress induced pain related quasi psuedo stroke() ā¦heās very cute. But his little face looks sad. Hope you can brighten him up (inadvertant pun sorry).
Heās suffered a lot of loss recently. Itās hard to be the only burro (I did offer to take two, but it didnāt work out). His HMA didnāt have wild horses, so he has not warmed up to his horsey neighbors.
I found his smile! And his weakness for carrots.
@MLOaks Just gotta say Iām loving the blog and updates about your journey with Jeremiah. Thank you so much for taking the time to share!
Iāve been keeping up the blog, but some quick updates for those without timeā¦
-Jeremiah is learning to lead. I moved him into the barn this morning, where he has a paddock and stall. He hasnāt gone into the stall, yet, but I think he will. Itās going to rain a lot the next three days.
-He lets me rub his forehead. He seems to appreciate the āgood boysā and rubs on the neck at a reward.
-He is letting me walk up and halter him.
-He loves carrot pieces.
-I can touch his front legs.
And the biggest update is that heās getting a buddy. Someone gave a burro back, so weāre picking him up in the morning. Our 12 year old son wants to train him. Iāll coach him, but he has to do the work. This burro will not be part of the TIP Challenge, which is fine for us. He will still be trained like Jeremiah. He will go into the training pen until he is halter broke and leading well. Then, he can share the big paddock and run in shed with Jeremiah. Burros are happier in pairs, but they really need to be halter trained and tamed down before you put them together.
I do the same thing with my mustangs. Until they have come around enough to be haltered, led, caught, etc, I have found its easier to work with them when they are separate. So glad that he is coming along for you, he is absolutely adorable!
