The second burro is home! He is adorable, but I have JJ to play with. Our son gets to play with ‘Marty’.
How about pictures? JJ is using his stall. He’s wet in this picture, but his real color is a darker grey.
Marty (the second burro) is taller than JJ (13 hands). His coloring is burro pink.
As soon as Marty is halter trained, they will go together in a big paddock with an open stall. I think both could use another dewomring, but Marty probably needs his teeth checked as well. He’s 11, which is older than JJ.
Yes to more photos please! So cute!
Updated photo of JJ. He’s doing well. Leading, standing tied, being groomed, working on picking out hooves.
Marty is doing well, too. First leading lesson yesterday and he did very well. Standing still for fly spray, too.
Great pics!
I did not realize the burros got their tattoo so low on their neck.
It sounds like the progress is going quickly. Great news. Heck, my two horses who I have had for lots of years do not stand still for fly spray. That stuff eats horses you know.
LOL! JJ tolerated it yesterday, which was a big deal for him. He is definitely always on the lookout for monsters eating him. Marty accepted the fly spray almost right away. He’s pretty mellow.
I have learned so much working with wild burros. First, while you can squat down and look smaller for animals like cats and dogs, this makes burros nervous. Duh moment. Predators crouch…
JJ has an issue with cows, lol. It’s something we will need to keep working on, but I had fun writing about it.

The boys are now in the big paddock with a shared open stall. They are doing great in regular grooming sessions. Our farrier should be able to trim their hooves when he comes to do the horses in a couple of weeks. Our walks are going well, too. I’ve introduced them to lots of new sights on the farm. I’m going to start on training JJ to carry the pack saddle.
