Is there some kind of proof that he “groomed” her, or are you taking what you’ve read and/or heard about child abuse and applying to this situation? Not every relationship between an adult and a minor is nefarious. Many are, and it’s never all right to groom a child for abuse, but I’m not convinced that this relationship fell into that category. Isn’t it possible that as Debbie grew up and became emotionally mature, her relationship with Bob matured as well? That they actually fell in love? I don’t know because I wasn’t there and don’t know the facts. But I think some are way too quick to jump to the worst conclusions.

Bolding for emphasis… sexual relationships between minors and adults are ALWAYS nefarious… just like how not all relationships in office environments are inappropriate. Until there’s a power difference. People are rightfully concerned about the power difference between Debbie and her husband at the time of their marriage. I don’t think anyone is saying that it’s impossible they grew to enjoy each other’s company over the years.

An 18 year old and an adult man have VERY different life experiences at that point. It’s not a compatible partnership. People get married for reasons outside of love/long term stability all the time, the difference here is that one person is virtually a child.

Yes, an 18 year old is a legal “adult,” but in terms of world experience and judgement capabilities, “adult” is not always what it seems – I say this as someone who is not MUCH older than 18. I don’t feel much like an “Adult.”

The discussion of his relationship with Debbie is relevant because it is telling to how much this effects her career. She’s an incredible resource regardless of how their relationship developed years ago.

I dont think that that is legally correct, but if it helps, in my opinion Robert McDonald, who has been banned from all sports governed by an ngb, both as a participant and a coach for sexual misconduct involving minors under 14, groomed his now wife, debbie mcdonald, when she was a vulnerable child.

This is the very definition of grooming, and on its face identical to the relationship between jimmy Williams and Susan Hutchison.

Unless you have a very close personal relationship with Debbie M, your opinions carry no weight and might be best kept to yourself. She is an independent adult woman, perfectly capable of advocating for herself should she feel that she was groomed or treated inappropriately. Random strangers on the internet positing it as fact is crass, and most certainly defamatory if untrue.

Nah, I definitely dont feel the need to keep my opinion that bob McDonald had inappropriate sexual relationships with minors private. It’s kind of the public record now. And it is not a situation where debbie randomly met bob at 14 then didnt see him again until she was 18 or 20 or 23. They had a relationship beginning when she was 14 and he was an adult married man with a child. Whether it became sexual before she graduated high school and his wife left him, I dont know, but his behaviour regardless was classic grooming behaviour.

According to Bob’s own statement, the allegations are from before he married Debbie, when he was 26 and she was 19 or so. Nobody seems to be revealing anything about Bob’s first wife and daughter leaving him and what became of them or exactly when Bob and Debbie “got together”, though Debbie has made at least one passing reference in interviews to her family with Bob being “son and daughter”, while her son with Bob is well known at this point and is seemingly referred to as the only child. Bob refers to both of them having “families”, so that is definitely a head-scratcher. This is definitely a fill-in-the-blank situation that needs more information than anyone outside of the bubble seems to have.

Anyone denying this is grooming just hasn’t spent enough time reading and learning about it. It IS classic grooming. Fact. You can not justify anything here. What grown ass man with a wife and child marries the student he had at 14 when she becomes legal? The wife and kid take off? Open your damn eyes people! He had the power, she was a damn child.

I agree with this. I’m certainly assuming the the sexual misconduct charge relates to individuals other than his eventual wife. Given the current charges, that casts an unflattering light on his relationship with the teenage DM, but his historical relationship with her is irrelevant to the SS investigation. Whether his relationship/marriage to her was classic grooming/ power imbalance or somehow innocent (seems unlikely), if there had not been subsequent serious sexual misconduct with minors, he would be in the clear now.

Agree, can guarantee his ban from organized ngb sport has nothing to do with his relationship with tween Debbie. It is just an example of his grooming and predatory behaviour.
