Boyd Martin's new boots - Majyk Equipe

This has probably already been done to death, but I agree completely about the brown Kentucky boots. I would have already bought some if they had been available in black, but now the Magic Equipe is at a much better price point, so I’m glad I waited.
I have the memory foam open fronts from Magix Equipe, and front and rear XC boots from Premier Equine. The jury is still out on the PEs as far as fit and comfort, but the strike guard on rear boots has been tested on course and appeared to do its job.

Top Rail is doing GREAT with the Majyk Line and the owner Joe Adams is VERY familiar with the technology behind the boots. I know he will be happy to help in anyway possible to answer your Majyk Questions.

With regards to thoughts on all the “branding/logos” I have couple simple suggestions if they are not to your taste…
A). As eventers, myself included, we have a habit of taping our velcro closures anyway (hot pink on my pony and purple for my gelding). With the introduction of basically every color of duct and electrical tape needed people can easily cover the logos if they so choose
B). Looking on the bright side, a simple seam ripper like what we use to take out braids, will pop the logos off easy breezey and now you have a place for your logo!

Either way, lemons are great for lemonade.

Good suggestion Pika! Now, how can we convince the Majyk Powers That Be to make them in white???

The brand ambassador is suggesting removal/covering of the brand?

I would be interested in how hot they get, from just looking they look as though they would be quite warm but it’s impossible to tell until they are actually used.

Has anyone OTHER than the brand ambassador tried them and can comment on the heat?

I have the PEs for all fours…love them to death. Agree about the Kentrucky brown, was the reason I passed on those. Whoever chose that marketing color was a fool.

Personally–I like the brown. My only issue with the Kentucky boots is that they only come in one size. They fit my OTTB (16.1ish hands) but are way way way to short on my 17+ hander. And the big guy is the one running at Intermediate who I want better boots for. My PEs hinds on him got damaged on a bank with him and I REALLY didn’t like the way the guard bent. If the whole boot hadn’t ripped off…it created a really sharp edge that could have caused some very major damage. I’ve just been un able to find another brand that fits him.

Which part of the boot was damaged? My PE hinds don’t have a hard guard but my fronts do.

My hinds do have a guard–on the front of the boot.

I have the open fronts and hinds for my older boy and I love them. His hair gets rubbed off with most non-leather boots except Veredus, but these ones aren’t having that effect. They are well-made, don’t heat up the legs, and fit really well. They also seem to be holding up better than his $$$ Veredus.[/QUOTE]

I am quoting myself, from earlier in the thread. I own 8020397 sets of horse boots, and I am an independent user! There are a few other evaluations, Jealoushe, if you want to go back and read from the beginning.

I still run in the Dalmers, they fit my guy well and have mesh ventilated openings which I like, since it gets so blasted hot and humid here. Haven’t lost them in the water yet either, knock knock.

BFNE - try the NEW boots. I really love their cross country boots and their dressage sport boots. The cross country boots I have for my gelding (17.2 with solid legs) fit him beautifully, do not spin, do not hold water/much heat (I have the fleece version) and are in my opinion wonderful boots. I just ordered mine in from the manufacturer and am thrilled. Amira also carries them.

They are popular in the UK and had very good reviews on the other forum

Does anyone have an idea when the major distributors (SmartPak, Dover, etc.) will start carrying the new XC boots? I’d love to try them, but the shops listed for PA on the Majik website don’t carry them yet.

I read the whole thread LOL. I am specifically interested in the heat retention in these new boots. Glad to hear you did not find them hot. Anyone else tried them?

I have a couple of pairs. I did have some trouble with the fleece ones spinning but the air flow ones were better. Biggest issue though is they all seem to have the same hard guard made out of carbonite. That is what he bent.

Top Rail Tack has quite a few styles in black and white.

Ha Ha,

So funny vxf111! I love it!

I notice Boyd himself is a good ‘brand ambassador’ - he won Richland wearing his XC boots front and center without any taping - shows they must be good to go without tape and he doesn’t mind the logos (wonder why???:)!

The irony as we wanted to consider these guys as a vendor for the Devon Horse Show and were told on no uncertain terms that they are hyper vigilant about their brand and don’t do “co branding” as it might dilute the value of their brand. But apparently, their brand ambassadors are A-okay with peeling off the brand. Doesn’t really jibe but whatever!

I like the brown too!!! I was just thinking, gosh… I wish these came in brown too.
bfne…do you like the kentucky ones? I am liking the idea of a flexible strike plate. Fleck has a big scar from a laceration from a stud when his eskadrons slid down so right now I’m using the fleece NEWs because they mold around the scar. But I don’t like them. They’re too hard to get tight and I feel like they might be just a bit too long. And they slide when they’re wet. And I don’t feel like they are cool… despite the fact that they are supposed to be…
I wonder if the Majik boots will be at the AECs. Would love to see them…

I have to be honest just read through forum comments. In all fairness, not my habit. I don’t spend much time in the forum (obviously, but will make a better point to) nor on the internet. I’ve read through very valid comments, concerns, compliments, etc. For the record, never saw the “being called out”. I was “straight shooting” from the start but did not know the “edict” and therefore wanted to express my thoughts without being on the “payroll”. Fact is I’ve spent A LOT of money chasing “technology” and the latest and greatest. I prefer people share their experience so others do not chase their tails. Hence a forum…
Fairly stated by another person, everyone has their preference and everyone has an opinion…
Moving forward and onward, I saw people wondering where the boots are in PA. I suggest visiting Top Rail as I know they have the boots and will be at Seneca Valley HT this weekend.

I’ve only used them once so far and liked them. As I said though, they don’t fit a lot of horses. I feel like the front boot are on the short side even on my little TB (hinds are good on him but way too small for my big horse).

The flexible strike plate sounds interesting to me as well but I think I have enough boots at the moment!
