Breech that is like the Smartpak Piper but....

But doesn’t pull down in the back, leading to eventual plumber’s crack.

Does this breech exist?

I love the full seat piper in every other way but can’t stand the rise in the back. They’re like high heels that you wear because they look awesome but are terribly uncomfortable.

Following! Because I agree–the rise is much too low

I was told a way to prevent them from pulling down is by getting a long if you wear a regular. I don’t know the truth to this, as I haven’t been able to test it yet, but it’s always worth a try!

I have a pair of piper classics I really like. I bought 30L when I’d usually do a 30R; just felt better all over. I’m 5’6", long in the torso, and longish femur, but regulars usually work.

Ditto trying the Piper Classics. The material is a little different than the Pipers, but I think they’re a much better fit and better rise. I’m a Long anyway, but even a Long in the regular Pipers sucks down on me; that doesn’t happen with the Classics. Maybe because the rise is actually long enough that it sits above my hip bones, making it harder to fall down.

Yeah, but only in the booty for the full seats. Otherwise, they are a great pair of full seat breeches for the money.

ETA: Buying Longs as a solution. Such a good idea! I never would have thought of that… being 5’1".

They just released a moderate rise version of Pipers–they seem to have a higher waist that would get rid of the gap/plumbers crack!

I already wear a 32L so the long won’t help me.

Really? I was just on the site and didn’t see them.

Hmm - this looks like it:

I’m not sure what a “knit” breech is, but it is definitely described as having a higher rise.

Wait - yeah, here it is:

Awesome smartpak - thanks for listening!!

Here’s another Piper Breech with Modified Rise. No reviews yet. The legs of the “regular” Pipers are tight for me. I wonder how these will fit.

All sold out in my size in all colors. I really wanna try it - I like the pipers but they aren’t quite perfect…

Digging deeper, the rise on the regular pipers is referred to as “natural rise,” not low rise.

They also now have junior Pipers and Pipers with silicone knee patches - in addition to the “knit” fabric and the modified rise.

Wow. I am excite.

Me too. They’re still my go to breech because of price and durability (they’re my daily pants, so they see a lot of barn work too), but I end up having to pull them up (from the knee up) regularly. I’m temped to try the knit ones since the fabric may be more relaxed, but I worry they will wear more.

SON OF A…

Just when I thought I had all the colors I wanted in the Pipers and am content, they do this?!?!?!

Well…guess I’ll be getting some modified rise ones in grey/turq when they are back in stock in my size.

It appears they are not available until 3/28. I sure hope the front rise won’t be at my bra strap now

Looking forward to trying a pair!

“knit” material basically means cheaper overall fabric. I mean quality, but probably also cheaper for them to buy in bulk and upsell as pipers… Knit fabrics catch/snag/tear incredibly easily.

I was not aware that one could make fabric any cheaper than that used in current Pipers, lol. The pilling is insane, hence the extra value of the full seats. I think they are fairly priced when on sale. But I can’t believe one needs to pay $85 for breeches with cloth not up to the job… and $100 more to get breeches that are well-cut and well-made.

Knit ones are cheaper FWIW.

I agree, the material my old Pipers are made of vs the new pair I just got is very different. The newer Pipers are thinner, more elastic-y and “technical” feeling, where the older ones were thicker and more durable, like a technical structured cotton feeling almost (but not sweatpants-esque like cheaper brands such as Tuff Rider.) I only ride in full seats so it’s not an issue, but if I bought a pair of knee patch Pipers made from the newer material, I’d be pretty disappointed.

I bought the piper knit fabric silicone full seats a couple weeks ago. I actually find the fabric superior to the regular pipers I have. I did not find them to snag at all, between riding 3 horses, throwing hay, and all such other activities one participates in when at the barn for 7 hours

The rise I was worried would be too high, but it falls just below my belly button. So very comfortable. I LOVE the silicone. Especially in paisley. The only things to consider really is that (at least in full seat, as my friend has the knee patch and did not report the same fit) you MIGHT want to size up one. I ordered my regular size and it still fit fine, but tighter than my regular pipers in the same size.

Also the belt loop won’t accommodate a wider belt (read regular C4), you’d need the skinny. I’m always open for excuses to buy more C4s, so this was actually a plus.
