Breeches color question

This is probably silly, but I was wondering if there was a color scale or something to tell if breeches are too dark for the dressage phase. I really want to do grey, and obviously won’t do charcoal or dark grey, but I’ve seen some shades that are right on what I would consider the line.

Or if anyone has any leads on a light grey pair of full seats?

I’ve never seen a chart. These (in dove grey) are about as dark as I would go. https://www.smartpakequine.com/pt/romfh-international-full-seat-breech-10270

I actually have those in knee patch and love the color. Competed just fine in them, but they don’t make a full seat in a 36. I can manage a 34 in knee patch, but not full seat. And it makes me sad since they are a gorgeous color.

These seem to come in a 36 and Dove Grey is usually light http://www.saddlersrow.com/ovation-slim-secret-full-seat-breeches/

Pikeur Lucinda comes in light grey with dark grey fullseat http://www.amirashop.co.uk/acatalog/Pikeur-Lucinda-w--Contrast---Prestige-Micro-2000--AE611353.html#SID=331

Kerrits probably on the edge of color http://kerrits.com/womens/fullseat/cross-over-fullseat-breech

Shires, but no idea what the grey looks like https://www.horseloverz.com/product/full-seat/883984-ladies-full-seat-breeches.html

You might also explore ebay for the dove grey FITS that were a really lovely color http://www.ebay.com/itm/FITS-PerforMAX-All-Ssn-Lds-F-S-Breech-L-Grey-/271793509216?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f4827d360

Out of curiosity – is there a reason for light-colored britches? Is it easier for dressage judges to “see,” or is it proof that you can get your horse ready without getting yourself filthy?

My guess is it’s just traditional-- going back to the whole hunting attire thing.

On the color thing, I would LOVE to find a nice pair of affordable full seats in a cream or champagne color - it seems so hard to find.
I think I’ve seen fits, and maybe pikeur in that color, but they are a bit out of my budget.

It’s such a nice color for breeches, I am surprised there are not more breeches in that color - eggshell, cream, or whatever.

I wear grey, they aren’t all that light either…love the grey look!

Cream - http://www.spoilthorse.co.uk/Rugged-Horse-Cream-Full-Seat-Competition-Breeches

I bought FlightCheck a pair for Christmas, but don’t remember what brand they were.

I get Pikeurs on sale from either Amira Equi or Calevo. Scored a couple pairs for under $150 in the fall

Thanks so much Scubed! I think that the ROMFH and the Kerrits are too dark - hence my desire for a darkness scale! I haven’t seen the Shires before. I’ll poke around to see if I can find a picture of the grey.

The FITS would be lovely, but they are tough to find. I may set up an Ebay search.

Oh, the Ovations were SOOOOO promising! I LOVE the way that breech fits me and I was doing handsprings for the dove grey. So I asked for them for Christmas. And I got them. And they are blue:

The dove are the one the model is wearing and the seat is no joke, almost royal blue. I think I may still rock these for XC, but I think they are a little too blue for dressage. Honestly, I almost cried when I saw the color!

I think most of the links are of breeches that are too dark. Maybe it’s just me. There is the occasional TD or Judge that might say something.

Also, Fits “Dove Grey” is a much lighter color than the link above. I have a pair and the are very light. Here’s a link that shows both the darker grey (maybe called “Steel”?) and lighter “Dove Grey.”

Re: cream/peach breeches, I think a lot of people steer clear of that color because it is truly “skin color” for a lot of people, and for me at least wearing skin colored skin tight apparel just doesn’t seem like a good idea…too often I end up wearing my breeches in public and I’d rather it be obvious they’re actually pants of some sort!

Horze had a lovely light grey in thier grand prix breech. Very light, very professional looking. Not sure if they discontinued the color as I dont see it now! I do all my schooling shows in a light grey or darker tan. I dont like to have to worry about the dirt lol.

I show in lt tan or white for recognized competition.

DarkJewelDesigns,

Are you sure you received the right color Ovations? I have the dove grey Slim Secrets in the knee patch version and they are a beautiful light grey, not blue at all. Maybe you received the wrong ones by mistake or maybe they were mismarked? I was going to recommend these as well because I love the fit and the color is gorgeous!

Ovations makes a darker grey breech in that style - I have them and LOVE them. I can’t remember the name of the color, though.
For showing I got the “light tan”.

I’m positive I got the right color. I compared the breech color to the ROMFH ones I have and the breech themselves is a lovely light grey. Stunning and exactly the color I’d want. But the seat is blue. It’s not quite as bright as I thought, but it’s definitely blue. Someplace between navy and royal. And considering my colors are black, royal and silver I’d love to wear them. The blue seat may be frowned upon though!

Oh, I see! Gosh, that stinks, because they really do make some nice breeches!

I love the Ovations! If all else fails, I’ll get them in tan, or gulp, white. The white’s saving grace is the grey seat.

Has anyone seen the Pikeur combo Light Grey/Anthracite? The lighter grey with darker seat? Some of the styles come in my size and I’m curious about the color.

The Dover Competitor II comes in a nice light gray, which I never would have known if I didn’t see them in person.
