Breeches/tights cheap and cheerful

So, I’ve signed up for one of those week-long riding adventures. Extra funny b/c they are dear and this one is around my home turf, so I’ll be paying a pretty penny for full board yet always be within less than an hour of home.

But, never mind all that, what I’m looking for is recommendations for your go-to schooling breeches and tights. Under $100 please if possible.

A silicone seat is nice but not a deal breaker if not. The reason I don’t want to go high end is I reckon I’ll need 5-7 pair as the weather will guaranteed be wet and we’ve no way to launder stuff the whole week, so I need to plan for a fresh pair each day. I can’t afford to do that with high-end or competition caliber gear. :money_mouth_face:

A price range would be helpful. Everybody has a different interpretation of high end

Excellent point, thank you. I’ll edit the OP.

Freeride Equestrian & Maya Delorez are my favorite. I have some thinner Horze tights too that I like.

I am not a breeches person so grain of salt but I got some Willit breeches off Amazon for $30 that I really liked. Wore them for a week long pack trip into the mountains this summer and they were great, held up, super comfortable, dried fast when we got rained on, not warm since it was high summer but otherwise worth every bit of those thirty dollars. The fit seemed a little long and a little large on the calves; seemed to run a little big but I was in the process of losing weight so my size was changing. Baleaf also makes breeches; I like their lined leggings a lot for winter but haven’t tried their breeches, might be worth a look. As I said, I am not a breeches pro so I’m leaning more on the cheap aspect not any comparison of high quality.

I picked up a pair of these on sale last year and I am very impressed. You can’t beat the price, they’ve got a silicone full seat, two pockets, and they actually stay up without sagging. I walked XC in them with a phone in one pocket and my giant bunch of keys in the other and they stayed up and were very comfortable.

Great write up and great price point. Thank you!

I saw those on Amazon as well. May have them in my cart, actually. Thanks for your feedback.

I love my Baleaf hiking pants so I’ll check out their breeches - thanks for that tip!

Thanks! If I was looking at the Horze online, how can I tell if they are the thinner ones or not?

I’ll try to find the name of the style I bought.

I bought 3 pairs in black. Thin study material (to hide all my lumps and bumps on my over 40 legs lol) mesh on the lower legs.

If I were shopping for this trip, I’d buy as many pairs of the Freeride pull-ons as possible. I like the ones with the zip too, but I find the cut of the pull-ons to be more forgiving around the waistband (your mileage may vary on that though, I’ve got a straight up and down build without too much of a waist). I’ve had my oldest pair for a year and they’ve worn like iron–they don’t get stretched out or bag at all, even when I’ve worn them all day schooling, hiking around XC, doing chores, etc., and the silicone is still in great shape. The material is thick enough to be flattering but not so thick that I feel like a sausage squeezed into them.

FWIW, maybe I was living dangerously but I did a weeklong pony trek a couple of summers ago and managed with three pairs of breeches, even with some wet weather.

Thank you! Since I’m local I think I won’t live dangerously since packing won’t be an issue. But I like your report on the Free Ride pull-ons and you made me think about pull-on v. zip, so thanks!

I also prefer the freeride pull ons over all else.

On the maya delorez, do not get the more expensive compression ones - I like mine, but compressive is right, and they have extra seams that would be a lot of opportunity for rubs.

Thank you! That would be a big issue with many hours a day in the saddle.

Amazon has a brand called Baleaf. I really like my breeches. They have held up pretty well and have the thigh pockets for phone or whatever. I think they are (or were) about $35.

I have a pair of Tuff Riders that I bought ten years ago that have somehow held up. I sold my other pair and they were in decent shape, too. I think I paid around $30 for each individual pair. If you want something a bit “fancier” for a reasonable price, I really like the new Equestrian Stockholm tights. I think the breeches are a bit more. They run a bit small, but they are super comfy and well made.
