Breeches with cell phone pockets?

One of my boarders has a wonderful pair of Kerritts (of course a discontinued style) breeches with good size thigh pockets, perfect for a smart phone. I do have a pair of Kerritts Crossovers with a decent pocket, but really don’t like the fabric or fit. I do love my regular pull on microcord breeches.

Are there any breeches on the market with good pockets for cellphones? I do a lot of trail riding and would like to be able to easily carry my phone on my person.

Thanks!

use a cell phone “armband” just below your knee

I would think a phone in a breeches pocket would be annoying - stretching and bouncing around as you trot.

I carry my phone on my person - but I use a cell phone “armband” like what runners use to attach a phone to their upper arm, except I attach it just below my knee. I guess I could wear it on my arm, but I think it would bug me there.
Stays put, doesn’t bounce or annoy me, and is very comfy.
I bought it on Amazon.com for less than $10. Sized to fit my smartphone.

I use a runner’s arm band as well - and I use it on my arm. I even wear it cross country jumping and it stays put.

I also have a “yoga jacket” - its a light stretchy zip up jacket (with well placed vents etc) that has a zipper pocket on the upper arm for a cell phone, works great.

I am interested in the answer to the OP’s question also.

Irideon, my favorite breech company, makes a great cargo breech. As you can see in the Smartpak reviews, the side pockets are big enough for smatphones:

If armbands aren’t your style, TuneBelts are a possible alternative. I use a TuneBelt for my iPhone 5 in an Otterbox Defender, and I really like it.

Thanks for the quick replies! I wear tall boots, so don’t think the armband below the knee works and I don’t think I’d like an upper arm band. I have slender arms and found eventing arm bands likes to slip. In the winter it’s not a problem as the phone just goes in the jacket pocket. I’ll look at the Irideon and the tunebelt. Thanks for the information and looking forward to more input.

FITS new lightweight summper breches have a nice big pocket on the right thigh, perfect for cell phones. Probably pricier than Irideon, though.

I could not wear a phone in my breeches. I would sweat to death with the plastic. And if I didn’t have a G’Zone Ravine, the phone would die from sweat.

My husband carried his blackberry on his back in his shirt for a bike ride in his bike riding shirt, which has pockets for such things. His blackberry died from sweat. Now he carries his new blackberry in a plastic bag in his shirt pockets. These pockets are made into the shirt, along the waist band on your back.

I would not like a “buldge” sticking out, or rather any extra ones. Be it known as a phone or not.

I carry my phone at my kidney on the back of the waist of my tights. It does not ever interfere with my elbow. My keys otoh I keep in my waist band. If they fall off they go into my tights. I have a carbinger clip for those, they are held tight by my tights, and never jingle.

The Ashley breeches from Horseloverz has a pretty good sized front pocket that my iPhone fits in. I hardly notice that it is in there, but when I am riding I am thinking about other things. https://wws.horseloverz.com/search/main/ashley%20breeches/

I got the Irideon cargo breeches in the full seat version (which has the same microcord as their Cadence tights), and love them. They aren’t very flattering to my chunky thighs, but they are comfortable and practical. They have lots of room for carrying things, with two pockets on each leg.

This is mainly a problem for me in summer–less so in the other seasons, when I’m usually wearing a vest or jacket with pockets.

An update: I emailed Kerrits about the breeches with thigh pockets and received a reply. Apparently the Flex Tight II, regular and channel rib, have a thigh pocket. From the pictures, it looks like it is on the left upper outer thigh/hip.

I have the Kerrits Flex Tight II and LOVE them. I am going to admit that I was wearing them for a couple months before I even noticed there was a side pocket. I was wearing my Velcro cell holder on my leg every ride, like a moron… Now, I use that pocket whenever I wear those tights. So much more comfortable and accessible for me.

FYI Adams horse supplies has the Irideon cargo knee patch breeches on sale. I just ordered a pair, so will see how much I like them. May try the Kerrits as well.

Action Rider Tack has the kerrits on sale right now too

Careful. Have had Kerrits pockets “give up”, items in them slipping through the bottom when this happened. Also had an armband cellphone holder unvelcro itself, dropping its contents on the ground. I myself carry my cellphone–and other items, like folding hoof pick and reward carrots–in a small pack around my waist, easy to get to, zippered up securely, not in the way, not likely to be lost if I part company with my horse.

Equissentials makes pants with a thigh pocket. If you tell them how big of a pocket you want, they will customize it.

www.facebook.com/windriverhorse is a closeout Kerrits dealer. They have both older and newer styles of Kerrits breeches with side cell pockets.

Just ordered a new pair of Rackers Endurance Tights that come with a cell phone thigh pocket and last forever!

In my decade of riding endurance (and training for endurance) I never found a pair of britches that I felt comfortable in…AND…had an secure (button or zipper) pocket for a cell phone that was situated right where I could reach it easily and where it was protected from the elements - trees, brush, bad weather, etc - ie: I needed a waist pocket. Pockets on the leg were too vulnerable to being hit or hurt.

I used an iPod armband for years, but it made my arm sweat undereath, and tended to slide down my arm if I didn’t pull the strap tight. I found it annoying, to be honest, and not easy to grab the phone quick enough.

I finally just made a series of pockets from the material of a worn out pair of Kerrits, measured it so that it fit my phone like a glove, and included velcro at the opening to seal the pocket closed and prevent the phone from leaping out. I sewed a pocket on the waist of each of my britches, and never had to shop around for britches with just the right size, placement, and type pockets again.

I LOVE Kerrits, so comfy! While the pocket on the winter tights is great, I find that I don’t use it. I prefer to wear a vest and throw things in the pockets (with zippers, to make sure things don’t bounce out). I’ll even wear a lightweight vest in the summer over a t-shirt. This method tends to work best for me. =)
