In my decade of riding endurance (and training for endurance) I never found a pair of britches that I felt comfortable in…AND…had an secure (button or zipper) pocket for a cell phone that was situated right where I could reach it easily and where it was protected from the elements - trees, brush, bad weather, etc - ie: I needed a waist pocket. Pockets on the leg were too vulnerable to being hit or hurt.
I used an iPod armband for years, but it made my arm sweat undereath, and tended to slide down my arm if I didn’t pull the strap tight. I found it annoying, to be honest, and not easy to grab the phone quick enough.
I finally just made a series of pockets from the material of a worn out pair of Kerrits, measured it so that it fit my phone like a glove, and included velcro at the opening to seal the pocket closed and prevent the phone from leaping out. I sewed a pocket on the waist of each of my britches, and never had to shop around for britches with just the right size, placement, and type pockets again.
