A lovely effort by Zenyatta but with that said I took the wager for exacta and win for the BCC … I didn’t wager on Z to win.

No, you got it right. She blew me away with that run, but still broke my heart.[/QUOTE]
Ditto this. An amazing run but just abit short. Ironic it’s a horse named Blame who beat her… Like Upset & Man o’ War… Though Blame is a lovely horse in his own right.
why did she come out so slow?? dirt track? Too much hype before actual run? I know nothing about racing…I do love the mare though. Her “dance/strut” was the striking out of the front legs for whoever said she did not dance or strut!
Replay shows she got squeezed on the start, she took a little longer to find her pace, came up on the rail, then had to go out WIDE, think 4 -5 horses to charge up the center of the track.

Thanks for that, it’s perfect here
Any thoughts about how bad that break was compared to last year?
Just watched the replay, and I think maybe if she just had a tiny bit better luck finding an opening when MS made his move, she would have had it. Still amazing all in all, she nearly caught him and I didn’t think it would be that close, watching that stretch run, until the last few strides. Thank god they all came in ok, most importantly!
So for those of you who said no HOTY if she lost, after that effort do you still feel that way? The start of the race wasn’t spectacular but to say her effort down the stretch was impressive is an understatement. I am not typically a race follower so I have no basis for an opinion of who should win, just curious about your thoughts.
What I do not understand is, why this wonderful mare who had nothing left to prove to the world, was even entered in this race. Her humans would have been smarter to have just scheduled a Winter letdown and relaxation regime to have begun, so that she could be bred in 2011. They risked her life in this very dangerous sport, for what? Sigh…I am just glad she finished with no injury.

Yes, and she had to go wide last year, too, but had much better luck and was running much smoother at that point. Maybe a couple of fewer horses and she would have done it, who knows. Lots of fun, anyway, what a girl.
it seemed to me
and while I watch a lot of racing, I guess I don’t know a lot about it, it seems to me, if he hadn’t tried to go inside at the top of the stretch, maybe just go outside. I surely wouldn’t want to critisize him, he will be doing plenty of that.
I am glad for Garrett he did beat LOL though. Sweet revenge.

Seriously?

In my mind she is HOTY no question. She ran an incredible race which is especially evident if you watch the replay from above. She came from way back, had to find an opening to make her run and she was closing like a freight train. I was very disapointed when she did not make HOTY last year, this year I think she is even more deserving. Hope she gets it.

Sweet mudder of divine jesus.
Why doesn’t this forum have a face palm or head to wall banging icon?
HOY? no way
if you don’t follow, perhaps you haven’t heard about the quality of her competition. I think it was Bill Nack today who said not ONE of the horses she ran against this year before tonight had even won a g1.
Gee all they want to do is talk to Mike. Where is Garrett?
What a horse she is. I too thought something was wrong with her to start with. And once they hit the stretch I never believed she would get up there. But get up there she did. It breaks my heart she technically lost the race, but there is no doubt in my mind that she won. She had to come through all that traffic and from so far behind, and she was bringin’ it to him. Two more jumps and the nose would have been hers. What a horse.
Because she is a racehorses and racehorses race.
I think she answered a lot of questions today about how good she is. Even though she didn’t win, I am still in awe of her heart and run. She was totally out of it early on, had to weave around tiring horses and almost won…against males. Pretty impressive.
Mike let her settle in, she looked like she was a wee bit uncomfortable at the start and it just took her time to find her stride. He had to tap on the breaks once, which could have cost her… anyway, she made up a LOT of ground and I still think she’s the best mare that’s ever lived.

I thought the same thing when I read the post about who nosed her out.
talk of not retiring her?
One thing about it, now that the monkey is off her back, she could run against more colts like, er Goldikova, who NEVER ducks the boys. Understand, I am not the biggest Z fan, but I really really wanted her to win. She has run against NOTHING this year. after her win last year, they should have run in the Pacific Classic or gone to New York even against the fillies. She will get older filly or mare though I think.
They have retired Blame!
That race was a heartbreaker!
Yer funnny
