My husband has had two standards that are excellent hunting dogs, primarily for duck and dove. Current dog is a Chesapeake Bay Retriever and he has a pekingese dachshund mix (the second is a surprisingly good dove dog…we joke he was raised by the chessie and thinks he’s a baby lab that never grew ).

Agree what this has turned in to should be in the BF, but for the love of all things holy- that will turn into a Holstein vs Tbred vs WB vs wb. There is not enough boxed wine in my fridge (cuz I’m classy like that) to sustain me.

If this hits the Breeding Forum, B______k will come on and say he’d like to see historical proof of the actual blood temperature of our American warm bloods because he has been breeding Warmbloods for decades and has the thermometer to prove it.

The irony is, draft crosses seem to be one of the most popular types out in the actual hunt field these days, so many of them must be quite good foxhunters! However, I think we can all agree that the show hunters have diverged quite a bit and a more refined horse is needed to be successful in the show ring.

This thread illustrates the importance of understanding bloodlines since apparently people will call anything a “warmblood”.

One must pay close attention to stallion and mare lines all the way back if one intends to breed.

There are some good American sport horse breeders, but threads like this make it easy to understand why so many still go to Europe.

It is also why American based registries aren’t taken seriously. See the AWS thread in breeding.

If someone buys a gelding, none of this matters. If someone buys a mare, it becomes critical.

I guess I need to catch up, but just wanted to point out that hot blood + cold blood =/ warmblood

I had a paint/percheron cross that was a giant, colorful, sweet, plow horse… Literally. She’d look at fences, jumps, trees, anything, and literally get up some speed and pile drive them over without even the slightest jump. I sold her as a trail horse since I had no need for a bulldozer that ate as much as she did.
