Broncing mare. I really need advice

@Bays4days Threads are so hard because it’s just words and they can be taken wrong. And words are hard versus us all sitting together talking and brainstorming. It’s so hard when we get a horse with problems and you ARE trying to do right and came out here just writing off the top of your head like we all have and do.

Please come back when you can. We’ve all been there. Hell, I have a thread that derailed on UDBB that is legendary. I was so misunderstood.

So anyways, just know there are so many of us with good intentions and have been in your shoes.

And I too have taken on horses that I knew did/might have a problem and then got caught up in a big spider web like Lord of the Rings and just trying to make it out alive.

We’re pulling for you no matter your decision.

This post had me double taking cause it sounds very much like a mare I knew with a few details that don’t quite line up so pretty confident (95%) it isn’t but it’s crazy how very vague info can still make you identifiable esp cause this horses new owner wouldn’t know me at all but I would know that mare from an inconspicuous picture of a random body part on her I spent so many hours looking her over when I worked for her original owner. But I think most of her issues were from being spoiled (she had manners and was expected to mind herself but she was still spoiled lol) and the person riding her with a jackhammer seat. * side note don’t care if the person knows I’m talking about them I will openly say I dislike their riding and my back hurts for the horse when I watched them ride. My mom taught me to make sure if it’s not something I would say to the person themselves then don’t and I took that to mean be comfortable saying what’s on my mind to anyone lol.

I keep thinking about the Animal Communicator thread. I’ve never been one to buy into that stuff, but some of the stories over there are pretty remarkable.

If Velvet were mine, I might actually give it a shot. Heck, that thread has made me consider giving it a shot with my horse, and I’ve known him his entire life, owned him for most of it, and done every scrap of his training myself. But still…it’d be interesting just to see.

I’m more alarmed by the detective work. I get that people may know the mare, but that people would deliberately try to find out who the owner and mare are greatly bothers me.

I hope that makes more sense.

@Moss If this is what you are referring to as detective work, this doesn’t sound like it to me at all. It’s a small world, and the horse world is even smaller without even accounting for each discipline boiling things down even more.

This reads far more as something happenstance than anything else. To me anyways.

I don’t think that’s what happened. Someone (edit) potentially recognized her from the posts.

Thank you for clarifying.

All good. If someone had seriously gone digging to prove some point, I would’ve been skeezed out too!

Why would you breed something with a crap attitude towards life and no performance history? This is how we get crap bred horses that are expensive to get on the ground but do nothing in life, and their get does nothing in life- other than arrive at a subpar auction house. At best they are pretty.
This is kicking the can down the line and is equal to equine puppy mills. It maybe has papers and a uterus then breed it- who cares about conformation? who cares about temperament, both on the ground and under saddle? who cares about show history? All that matters is it can’t be used as a good solid riding horse but has a uterus- go breed it to get your return on investment or maybe carry on the genes of a horse you “love” but is a genetic train wreck.
Thankfully we tend to geld males that are subpar so we can’t breed them when they can’t be ridden anymore

The OP mentioned the mare having outstanding bloodlines and movement, and she’s already had one foal, so I was just saying maybe someone would want her for that purpose.

Personally, I agree with you regarding breeding, but I was just brainstorming possibilities for the mare’s future that might not involve putting her down.

Yeesh. Sorry I brought it up.

I don’t care if she has great bloodlines if she is not sound of mind. Being put down may not be the worst thing. What if she passes that bronc mentality on to the next generation?

You’re entirely right. I apologize from the bottom of my heart. I don’t know what I was thinking or saying. Shame on me.

OP, if you’re still around, please choose to euthanize this mare before you dare think of letting her go to someone who wants to use her as a broodmare. She’s better off dead. The WORLD is better off if she’s dead and buried rather than possibly passing along her terrible quality of bucking when she’s green and has sore feet.

I withdraw my foolish suggestion and will think deeply on my transgression.

I’m so ashamed.

Why is love in quotation marks?

My H/J trainer had a lovely Chestnut mare.
With a MAJOR screw loose.
So bad she couldn’t be shown.
Trainer fobbed her off on Deep Pockets clients whose kid showed (the pony Pro had suckered them into buying from Pony Finals - also had temperament issues :unamused:).
Of course - at “Pro’s” suggestion - they bred her.
I always wondered if foal got mare’s Nasty.

Have you tested for lymes/Anaplasmosis? I would do the one that checks for all the tick diseases and the snap test one as well.

I’ll play devils advocate on this one. The situation likely does not apply to this specific horse but I know one with great blood lines and she’s an absolute doll on the ground but she has one (mostly predictable) issue where she will rear if she feels claustrophobic. Something happened when she was getting started that caused this behavior. Her foals are some of the most agreeable sweet babies I’ve ever handled and I hate babies. This mare I would not hesitate to buy a baby from because her issue the cause is known. Most cases I would say your right but I do think the foal she has, siblings and bloodlines are something to consider like is this something she could pass on or likely something that is specific to this mare like a genetic physical issue or temperment issue.

I think you are being way too hard on yourself here

See the most recent post, which makes good points!

I think they were using heavy sarcasm towards the Sonny’smom person. At least that’s how I read the post. I don’t think they were beating up on themselves luckily just being theatrical which same. I love to be theatrical too lol

Ah.

Upon rereading it, I see what you’re saying - my bad for misinterpreting.

Maybe she could’ve put a /s next to the post…

I considered putting a /s next to it. Sorry about that, LOL.

I was in a snarky mood. The world has been nuts lately and it was getting to me. I had a good day with an old friend and visiting with her new baby granddaughter, so I’m much less grumpy now.

I mostly just hope the OP and the mare are doing okay.
