i have a flea-bitten-dapple grey Thoroughbred who looks awesome in brown tack, black pops way too much on her. I love the look of brown on her, anyone know anywhere to get a good, used brown Dressage tack set? Also your thoughts on using brown tack in Dressage.
I was just logging on here to ask just about the same question! I have a brown Passier dressage saddle, however, my girth has pretty much gone the way of the Dodo and I need a new one, HELP PLEASE!
I use a brown rolled bridle on my chestnut mare, and have gotten many compliments on it.
By the way, my saddle is black. Trainer (who shows her) rides her in a brown saddle.
When I pointed out that the bridle is brown and my saddle is black, he said “Who cares ?”
He’s high enough up the dressage food chain that I believe him.
So, if I end up with a black girth I won’t be ousted? I haven’t been in the dressage arena in quite a while, but am back at it now that I am showing again.
Wintec girths come in brown.
Or if you want a nice leather one:

Right now im using a light tan a/p saddle since I have quite awhile till I have to worry about dressage tack. My bridle is light tan, flat, with cavesson. It looks remarkably good on her. I get many compliments on how good she looks.
Im just wondering if She would also look good in dark brown tack without it popping to much. I put black on her and she looks way lighter than she is and the black just stands out to much on her.

I think brown is smashing. These are Albion saddles, bridles and girths, from www.AdvancedSaddleFit.com (which is now making its own line of saddles that are basically better knock-offs of the Albions. Don’t know if their line comes in brown, but I’m sure they could tell you).
Another advantage of brown tack, you can often get it very cheap. I got a new dressage saddle for half off because the color wasn’t selling. Every couple of years, one of the big name riders starts using brown tack and it becomes more popular. I like the look. Disclaimer, I event and rarely show at dressage shows.
It does not matter what color your tack is.
I would tho’ vote aginst purple and pink.
Aw man!! and I just saw a hot pink girth I liked!! LOL
Pfft, if you go here you can get a saddle in any color you want!
I took a break from dressage for about 11 years and tried to sell my dark brown (almost new) Passier. Eveyone laughed at me. I missed out when the dressage world went to all black. I am glad to see that may be changing. Although I do now have all black tack…
Icky poo. Most dressage people are fashion savvy enough to realize brown tack looks great on certain color horses. You live in the boondocks?
^^Yes I do lol
I live in the boonies too…not too far from Apple valley actualy!! LOL…it’s sandy out here
Ok I dont live in the boonies but i do spend a lot of my time in the boonies. Far from any dressage instructors, Im in the middle of western culture, ropers, reiners, cutters, cows, that sorta thing.
It is tough out here in that regard…they look at me like I am a nut job when I tell them I do eventing.
“IF” the saddle fits your horse…alot of the older Prestige saddles are a rich dark brown. I bought one for my gray mare…she still has alot of brown in her coat from her baby bay days. Looks great on her. I just happened to have already had a Barnsby Equalizer girth in brown and some Albion Stirrup Leathers in Brown.
I love the deep Nut brown shades more so than black…gives more of a Matte finish in my opinion.
I actually once had someone tell me that riders get disqualified from dressage classes for using brown tack, ‘and points are deducted for using a brown bridle with a black saddle’.
It sounded like a beauty contest.
Oh, dear. I have a black bridle to go with my black saddle now, but I did show for a while with a mix-and-match theme. If any points were deducted, they were well hidden amongst the points deducted for crappy riding.
Personally, I prefer brown tack; I think it looks rich and timeless. However, the saddle that fit my horse perfectly is black, and I do actually like matching tack, so we now have a black bridle, as well.
