Brown Dressage tack

black tack is usually more readily available and cheaper. there’s also the issue of quickly getting replacement parts during a show - it’s easier to do so with black tack. probably just run to one of the tack concessions right at the show. it’s easier to borrow stuff, too, if something is lost, stolen or forgotten at a show.

i was disappointed actually when black tack became the fashion. a lot of black dyes really stain white pants, and they often take on a greyish or greenish, or just washed out tone with time. brown tack tends to just deepen and look more classy, and the stains seem to be easier to get out of pants.

I would keep an eye on ebay for brown tack.

I ended up getting a brown County saddle and now have the ‘joy’ of finding brown dressage tack to go with it. I will admit to having a black girth but have not put much effort into finding a brown one. It also has taken me awhile to find a brown bridle I really like. It is true that if you find one it will probably be a good deal but there aren’t that many out there and it is doubtful if your local tack store will stock them.

I think my brown tack looks rather smashing on my little chestnut Arab. I think black looks very stark against him.

I have all brown tack for my chestnut, and it looks so much better than black. I had no trouble finding a brown bridle, as many “event” bridles are brown with a flash, and I have a Wintec dressage girth in brown. My local tack store just happened to carry them.

Finding a brown double is next to impossible though. If I ever start riding in one, I will probably just get a saddleseat double and add one of my many assorted browbands, and buy a nice cavesson.

I wonder if I can get a wintec Dressage saddle in brown.

At the World Cup 2005, Robert Dover rode in brown tack and lived to tell about it.

Lots of brown tack in Europe, lots of black. And some who go mixed. Who cares? Whatever looks and fits best is all that matters.

So which color looks best on an actual BROWN horse? my neice’s horse.

this horse is not a bay, it’s brown. it has a black mane and tail but it not technically a bay. it’s really very very brown - not a liver color, it’s a very deep sepia brown color. we have put both black and brown tack on the horse and i think brown, she thinks black.

It’s her horse, it does not matter either way, and so whichever colour she likes is the very best colour.

we all realize it’s her horse, egon. she doesn’t have a choice of color as she will get whatever used tack is available from her employer. we were just talking about it.

if she does not have a choice, what is the reason for the question?

Black and brown are both fine .

On the other hand, pink with lime green stripes may be seen as too garish by some.

haha multi-colored tack, pink and green. I know one child where I am that would love that.

yes. I have one here like that. Everything MUST be pink or purple!

Well hers is ALL pink, pink breast collar, pink saddle pads, pink sport boots, pink halter w/ pink rhinestones, pink clinton Anderson lunge line/halter/lunge whip, Pink oster grooming kit. Its horrid I hate the color pink. I despise purple a bit less. The owners of the little girl and her horse also own a buckskin gelding and don’t know how to sew so my friend and I go Dumpster Diving for slightly ripped fly sheets, blankets, boots that are in fantastic condition.

definitely go on ebay… lots of good girths. I have all brown on my chestnuts!

I love purple

I think black would look nicer on a brown horse with a black mane and tail.

I like black on grays as well. Mine looks awesome with a big black saddle pad and his black tack.

I think brown looks nicer on light chestnuts and palominos.

It doesnt look good on my mare, I love the brown on her though. like I said before she gets so many compliments from people on how she looks in her light brown ap saddle, vs a black ap saddle.

Looking good is entirely in the eye of the beholder. If you’re a person who appreciates contrasts vs. a person who likes subtlety, one would be preferrable to the other.

I love to stand out, but when it comes to showing I choose the subtlety route. Its my preference.

Subtlety is always a challenge for me  At least my current bridle and saddle are plain leather, no bling .

eta: By contrasts vs. subtlety, I was speaking more from a composition standpoint. I really like the black on white look, because it’s ultimate contrast- brown tones down the contrast a bit. So what I like for contrast, looks stark to you. It’s why we don’t all like the same art or paint our house the same color :))

In the winter shes white
In the summer shes flea-bitten-dapple grey (First year i have seen her dapple this much)
The very dark brown against her looks absolutely amazing

Mine is dappled medium gray, flea bitten on his face.

I like him in purple

Seriously, all of his stuff is black, even his halters and leads, I like it on him so much.
