Bully Sticks - why didn't anyone tell me??!!

So after hearing everyone talking about how much their dogs like bully sticks, I took Bruno up and he immediately picked one out of the bin at the pet store.

I examined it and then finally asked the pet store clerk what a bully stick was. She murmured that it was a treat like a rawhide. I knew that, but ok.

My daughter asked me what it was made of and I Googled it. OMG! Now I am embarrassed for asking the clerk!

Of course, Bruno loves it, so I guess there will be more bully sticks in our future. :dead:

:lol::lol::lol:

Next time insist on a more precise answer from the clerk.

Our dogs love them, but they eat them up quickly and they are expensive, so they are a special treat. My husband was horrified when I told him what they were ;).

LOL! I read the ingredients on one bully stick and it said “Beef Pizzle.” Like the manufacturer couldn’t even be straight up and say “Stretched, twisted, flavored & dried bull penis.”

My little dog loves those.
I buy them at our feed store for $3.98 for five, once a week.
The dog gets about one a day until they are gone.

“Beef Pizzle?!?!?!”

Fo’ Shizzle!!

Yep I guess the PC term is pizzle stick. How do you get pizzle from penis? Bully stick at least makes sense.

I love teasing men about it. ‘You know what you’re holding? You know what he’s chewing?’

OK, this reminds me of the time I lived in Boston and went into an African food store. There were these plastic wrapped packages of very long cylindrical white things all wrapped around themselves in a spiral. Yup. Uncooked beef pizzle. Who EATS that stuff?!?!?!?

Maybe add this to the crock pot file for nights when you ride.:lol::lol:

Beef+Penis+Swizzle (stick) maybe?

That’s kinda what they look like at least :lol:

One time years ago I got my old boss (an avid golfer who was quite a “pizzle” at times) a Peter Putter golf club as a gag gift. Looked like this one on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Original-Peter-Putter-Authentic-Bull-Penis-Golf-Putter-/320953088577?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4aba4b7a41

I just want to know where I can get them cheaper, my dog loves them

you can buy them in bulk. Note all the interesting ways to avoid saying “penis”.

English is a strange language - while bringing in new words, it keeps the old words as well.

“Pizzle” is the Old English word for penis - it is probably originally of German (Saxon?) origin

They are an addiction for Kate. I usually get them from here:

My dog loves them too.

I looked up what they were pretty early on, and I actually thought that it seemed like a really great way to make use of an organ that most people don’t find particularly appetizing.

And my husband actually thought it was hilarious when he found out, and he says all sorts of inappropriate things when he gives the dog one.

In Trinidad we call it bull pistle and it was used as a whip.

Paula

i have Lamb pizzle treats for my allergy dog. she loves them, but they are greasy( gag)

My thoughts exactly! If cattle are being slaughtered for hamburger, I feel much better that every bit is being used…and penis dog treats are a pretty creative use of a part not generally deemed edible by Americans.

I have a question, though…are they really always bull penises or do they use the ones from steer too?
