Yet another crash into a big open oxer …
So … I do not want non-eventers to see this day of XC at Burghley.
If this was all I knew of eventing, I would NOT support it. This is wrong.

I have always hated the malting fences. They always look terrible to me but this year there’s many Falls there maybe there’s more newbies but Jenna is no newbie. I really expected Doug to get around I’m shocked that he didn’t I’m glad Liz took the alternate route she has a lot of time penalties but she got clear around! It just doesn’t look like it’s riding very well this year lot of those open boxers in the horses aren’t liking them but I’m closing my eyes now whenever they go to the mountains because there was just another disaster they’re awful.
I’m just really not a fan of all these massive open oxers in combinations. They should be used as galloping fences, not on turning tracks or in front of/in water. The moment the impulsion is taken away, even slightly, problems happen. There’s just no need.
ETA: When even the scopey horses are having problems getting over the Maltings (such as Deniro Z, who Liz admitted felt like had to make a huge effort to get over), the problem is not the horses/riders. I wish more would take the long route just to take some of the fright away.
It’s a typical CMP course… Punish instead of educate.
Chris is looking cautious, which is good.
After watching this for the last 2 hours, I really hate those big white oxers.
Billy still looking a bit green and fresh with CT. I’d like to see him listening instead of arguing with his rider at every turn. He’s certainly bold but at some point it might work against him.

A memorable last course design …
Chris Talley is a very sensible 25 year old. Well done him.
This course promotes ugly riding and ugly jumping.
I can’t wait to see what Derek does next year.
ugh - Hannah Sue retired. That stinks.
Yes!
Admittedly I haven’t followed the top level as closely this year but I don’t remember Harbor Pilot being that tough/ rank on xc. Is that a normal thing or just maybe exacerbated by the Burghley level of fitness?
Em
She was a hot mess.
Derek doesn’t take over until 2021. CMP still designs next year.

Ugh. One more year. Hopefully he’ll rethink the design seeing as over 2/3rds of the way through, almost half of the pairs have either been eliminated or retired. But more likely, I suppose he’ll see it as a last hurrah.
Shit.
Not soon enough. CMP’s courses are just complete clusterf**s. I would like to see an analysis of his courses in terms of Es/RFs ( and horse deaths) compared to other 5 courses out there.
Thank you. I’m sitting here thinking the exact same thing. And thanking god Americans were smart enough to throw a fit and get him out of here. So glad we don’t have freaking royalty.🙄
