Gah! Padraig was having such a nice time around. Same thing as Gireg.
Good question.
Jesse Campbell finishes well.
Monica and Artist are the first top 10 pair to complete! Now sitting in 2nd.
What was fence 11a?
the corner after the trout hatchery
same jump that Pippa may just have gotten a missed flag on
Ros double clear!! Sheāll have 2 rails at hand tomorrow!
ETA: I should speak too soon. Forgot two top 5 are still on course!
I thought that was a good course that rode well, in the main. The Rolex Corners were a possible exception as too many seemed not the read the question/misjudged the distance between the elements. Cream rose to the top and there is an interesting mix of nations in the top 20. As usual, just getting round Burghley confers life-long boasting rights!
Just got back to our hotel after a day on cross-country! It was incredible. We stayed at start/finish the first quarter of the day in the media area, before we traveled along the course. I am now an incredible fangirl of Susie Berry and Irene Leva. They arenāt at the top, but the mare is just stunning and had so much presence at the box. She was also just lovely in dressage. Harry Mead made the course look like a cakewalk with Superstition. I think one thing I loved about both, even though the former had so much time. The horses were bright and game in the vet box afterwards.
So many thoughts. The magnitude of people here todayā¦ This weekend. I would argue most people and families arenāt here for the horses, but the shopping and tailgating which is so incredible to see. (Meaning, its incredible to see culturally, people getting involved and supporting equestrian sport.) I loved the use of brush throughout the course. I walked the course yesterday, and as an aspiring upper-level rider I want to tackle the fences. I think Derek did an incredible job giving the horses readable questions that were forgiveable for rider mistakes. Even the Cottesmore Leap, Iāve always envisioned to this huge magnitude. It is, but itās also just brush. (Iām more terrified of our ditches and walls back home that are solid) Iāve never walked so much in my life.
I think previously I wasnāt an Oli fan, but I didnāt have my pitchfork out. I watched in person the ride at Joules at the Malting. That was all I needed to see. It was pretty stomach knotting. You knew they were either going to be the fastest of the day or fall. There was a moniter at this combination so we also saw the rider fall. It was interesting to see (hear) the crowdās reaction. It was multiple murmerings of ānot surpisingā and you felt as if others also arenāt fansā¦ I donāt think itās just a U.S. feeling. Iād probably hand someone a pitchfork now.
Such a long day. We saw Cosby at the leaf pit. She was so fierce. I think just a wonderful day of sport. Also lovely to hear Area III local Hugh Lochore doing the live announcing who is based near our Chattahoochee Hills.
I thought the course had really great use of terrain in paces like Defender Valley. That is one of the things about Burghley and Badminton which differentiate them from the other 5*. It was a really fun XC to watch.
I was surprised at how many approached the coffin on a full stride instead of collecting in front of the first element.
Felt bad for his lovely mare today
Does anyone know why Will Rawlin was pulled up?
Do you know whoās coming?
Harry meade
Bubby Upton
Yas Ignham I think
thereās more let me thinkā¦.
Not to hijack the Burghley thread but thatās great to hear ! Hopefully plenty of US plus entries as well
Iām finally on part 2. Seeing lots of air vests in addition to standard vests.
Love Mia and Phelps! Heās tried so hard, but next time they might want to give Mia some brakes. He was game!
Holly Richardson, Pippa and Tom McEwen withdrawn overnight. Lizzie Baugh eliminated at final horse inspection. All others through though Nico Touzaint and Jennie Brannigan sent to hold box initially.
is EN broadcasting today? I donāt see anything yet. They do SUCH a GOOD job of covering xc, well all of it.
What is it about his horseās style that attracted the attention of the ground jury?
