Burgundy Show Coat in Hunters

I haven’t seen it before in the hunters but have to say that I love these mesh show jackets and have them now in two colors. it comes in Burgundy as well, and looks like a really nice color. But i’m 99,9% sure that its a NO for the hunters, but love the color. https://www.equlifestyleboutique.com/products/alessandro-albanese-motion-lite-show-jacket?variant=41563542406

I don’t think it would be allowed in hunters. Rulebook now specifically mentions colors in HU128:

Riders are required to wear conservatively colored coats (black, blue, green, grey or brown) which are free from adornment which in the judge’s opinion is overly distracting. Shirts must have a choker, similar collar or tie. Breeches may be buff, canary, tan, rust or white.

Unless you’ve got an actual Team red coat or legitimate fox hunting staff pinks, which are allowed under the “scarlet or dark” coats rules for formal attire classes, I would stay away from red.

Burgundy is no longer allowed in the hunters (used to fall under the umbrella of dark color, but now the rule specifically lists colors) and I have heard of a few cases where a judge was a real stickler and excused the rider for wearing a burgundy coat.

I would say the OP’s post was a thinly veiled attempt to break the forum’s rules and ADVERTISE this product for free.

@ Horsegurl. I have no affiliation with either the vendor link or the manufacture. I didn’t realize the rule had been updated to call out certain colors. I am actually work in IT

Whoa! I didn’t realize the rules now called out specific colors. I should pay more attention. Luckily I tend to the conservative, but good to know. I was thinking a burgundy coat would be pretty in the hunters.

So burgundy coats are a no-no, but go ahead and rock those canary breeches.

I have seen burgundy in dressage and jumpers, but it’s going to be a no-go for hunters.

No, please no…

Yeah, because burgundy is such a “showy” color. You know, like neon green. It’s just soooo tacky.

I’m another who didn’t realize the rule book now specifies which colors are allowed. I think its a good rule because that burgundy is UGLY!

To each there own. I actually like it, and I’m not a huge fan of burgundy. Can’t say as I like how it goes with too many horses though. Grey and black and some browns, maybe with a palomino or buckskin (but they aren’t too common in hunters), but for bay (depending on the shade maybe) and chestnut I don’t care for it as a combination. But since it’s against the rules, it’s a moot point.

And grey (lighter grey, not charcoal) breeches are apparently a “no”.

You can ride in rust breeches but not a burgundy show coat?

Does this mean tan/taupe are out? They’re pretty traditional colors but not listed? Or are they considered “brown?”

Isn’t canary, though rarely seen now days, a very traditional color?

Yep. When I was a little kid in the early 70’s, there were people showing in canary breeches. I haven’t seen any since then.

I saw quite a few folks in canary in videos from the Dublin international show. I wonder if I could pick up a pair when I’m in the UK next spring, I already wear rust occasionally  I’ve never seen them in a store here in the US, though.

I remember when Dove grey breeches were pretty popular. I loved that color. You can’t find it anymore. I tried to buy a pair but they had a tannish hue and not what I was looking for. I guess since they aren’t allowed in hunters that would explain it. Although I can’t find it in full seat either.

I remember this from the 80s. I think they are a nice color too.

I would say that effort backfired completely. LOL
