Barn cats and dogs…This thread has jumped the shark.
Thanks Hallie. I’m glad there were no horses left behind but I’m afraid to think where they might have gone from what I’m reading. We get a lot of trucks going in and out of that farm which is a lot of traffic for that little back road and the farm is near a hair pin turn in the road. The workers would drive like maniacs down Glen Hope Rd. and people do ride their horses on the road.
I thought I was done trapping cats at Elk Creek Ranch but today I set up 2 more traps as a just in case and as I was driving away a cat was on the loft above the stall watching me. I got back there right after it got dark and both traps were full, a grey cat and what seems like a buff colored tom cat. Now we have 7 adult cats and 2 tiny babies.
Does anyone know how they are all related? I’d love to know.
We have a mamma who is a dilute tortie with the 2 tiny babies.
We have what I call, the twins, 2 buff colored males, (in a new home already)
We have a grey and a dilute tortie female cats, one is petite, shy, the grey is more vocal and outgoing, even friendly.
We have the 2 I trapped tonight, a buff or orange probably tom cat and a grey cat that I understand is very friendly but comes and goes (does he live at the farm?)
Don’t worry about the shaggy dog now named Daisy and is drop dead gorgeous after her grooming. She looks kind of like a soft coated Wheaton Terrier or a mix like that. Her coat is now beautiful, amazing transformation. She lives down the road from the farm and I hear that she will take a walk down there once in a while. She’s very quirky, growls at me, lol. I think she remembers walking over to my farm and not getting near me but still eating the dog food that I put out for her. I’ve seen her eating road kill on Rt. 472 before a couple years ago. Sad, sad, sad. Someone, her previous owner should be shot for her treatment, horrible care, no care.
I think this farm will soon be sold, hopefully to a good owner who is hands on and responsible.
Back on topic, the famous “November 16th” has come and gone.
Any updates?? Neil??
Whats the scope on SB, has she had her day.
Any change of guard at PN since papers were served?
DD to vast to just drop of the face of the earth, still can’t believe he can actually get paying owners while decent trainers go starving…
Those testifying to GJ’s arent permitted to speak about it, or anything related to it.
I spoke with a fellow today who said… DD asked him to just take all his horses, begged him to… now, the fellow declines just by association would be suicide… didnt want to be accused of being DD’s next paper trainer.
DD’s reasoning was that the delays in all the court procedings were financially eating him alive … lawyer fees, costs, etc…
and he simply couldnt keep the horses any longer.
What he eventually did with the horses? I dont know…no one does… but he has left the farm near PN…bag and baggage.
Update: all but one of the charges have been dropped against DD, no evidence... the disgrunted employee lied (imagine that ..to a GJ!!!)

Tim Hooper basically left the dog there. Tony Adamo inherited him when he took over the barn. He too abandoned the dog.

“The last several years have been a horror show (in Pennsylvania),” said one individual close to the situation.
I just saw this myself … and thought…well, he did say he was going to do this. I suppose he was just waiting for the charges to be dropped on DD to add evidence to his case of false accusations.
Rumor has it DD was spotted recently at a training center near Mountaineer…
Funny story about one of the Elk Creek barn cats. There is a gray female that was one of the first I trapped and I put her next to a gorgeous dilute tortie who is very shy but wants to be friends. So this gray cat is super friendly and was pawing to get out and I decided to open the door and let her and the tortie out. She stayed and rubbed against me and was more interested in being friends than eating. She followed me like a dog. When I went to leave she jumped into my truck. I had a hard time getting her out even when I thought moving the truck she would run out, but no. I had to make her leave. Tonight when I was leaving again she jumped into the truck again, diesel engine running and all. I was waiting for a friend to meet me to take a look at the barn to plan more trapping and leave more food. It was dark and I’m not going there alone anymore and that gate is so heavy. So while waiting for her this kitty kept me company, I named her Butterfly, she just reminds me of such a free spirit. So I drove a little to see if she would want out and no way. Instead she sat on the console so she could look out the windshield. What’s wrong with this cat??? She thinks she’s a dog. She loves the other cats too, so friendly with everyone and all. She used the litter box too, she could be a house cat.
I am curious about the law suit Mr. Gill is filing, since most charges were dropped against DD, will he be allowed back at Penn?
I wonder how the jockeys would react now.
AlsoI’m interested in hearing how the retraining program is going, and are there many horses involved.
Glad to hear at least the cats are doing well.
I’m curious about the law suit too, howeven I’ll keep a low profile while I get the cats. LOL
Also, I found out which cat is deaf, she is the sweetest cat. She jumps into my truck then a friends SUV while they are running. I couldn’t get her out of my truck so I thought driving would make her want to leave but it seems she liked it. She hopped up onto the console and looked out the front, straight at the windshield as we drove as calm as she could be. She is a riot, but I think she needs an indoor home and someone willing to take her shy kitten, not sure if this is her baby or just a young one. At least her companion is gorgeous, a beautiful little dilute tortie. They both used the litterbox in their crates.
Drove up to ECR to leave food for the cats but haven’t seen any out there but yesterday there was one near the side looked like it was eating or drinking, maybe had a mouse. It didn’t run off right away, looking skinny. I also heard kind of late that there was another mamma and 2 babies by the caretaker’s house.
I hope this ends soon. Someone is taking one of the ferals, former tom cat. I need to load him into my truck, going to be heavy. Can’t wait for the back spasms to start again, woo hoo. :sigh: I’m not willing to try to move him into a carrier and risk losing him.
Meaningful dialogue about PA thoroughbred horse racing has come to a complete standstill.
This thread is one heartbeat from death.
R.I.P.
Good news about the horses at Elk Creek. They were all found good homes. I was hoping that they didn’t get sent to a KB. Just glad that the person responsible to place them cared enough to make sure they were safe.

I thought it may have been news that Dick Hertz’s gyp outfit was going to finally enter a horse. Wrong again.
