Oh vomit. :dead:
That’s like having compassion for Amon Goth or Josef Mengele.
The posting on Paulick by “csilver” bemoaning the fact that Gill’s departure means many families will go without work reminds me of when the Wicked Witch of the West dies from the bucket of water and the response nobody ever saw.
Yep her guard Winkies upon her death didn’t cheer that ‘ding-dong the witch is dead’, but rather they all cried “oh we’re unemployed now”. Yea, exactly that’s it. True story.
I listened to the audio. He does bring up some good points in some cases about the racetracks and their issues - Penn’s surface is suspect. I do wish, however, he would have addressed the issue of where his horses go when they are done. That part was completely glossed over or should I say not discussed aside from Lusty Latin. Shame on Roger Stein for his spineless questions.
Listen you all would be hard pressed to find someone more against horse slaughter than I am. I have dedicated the past 15 years of my life to rehoming and rescuing horses. But if Gill’s horses do end up going to slaughter at least its only them that dies. They won’t be taking their riders with them which of course is what this whole outcry has been about. Everyone knows its just a matter of time before one of his horses kills someone. Hopefully that has been averted now.

Two horses out of hundreds.
Buckle Up
Ok, now he’s quitting, where are the horses, and where are they going ? I sure hope that the COTH community can do another “Fingerlakes” drive and rehome them all. I think it could be done, quickly and professionally here on COTH. Talk about a poke in the eye with a sharp stick…the sound of a “Gill” rollcall would be wonderful. We could show the ABR people some things !!
A former Gill trainer told me that there are many at the farm that are for sale.
Gill horses on the farm
What do you think the odds are of Gill horses passing vet checks ? Ask for blood work ? Be nice to see him call CANTER
Does anyone know how many he really has? If he says 100, how can it verified? Are we going to hear about another farm with starving horses somewhere?

I’m sure there are people in the industry that know more but i’ve lived about 10 miles from his farm for 20 years and I never even knew it was there! (at least not that it was his)
You can’t see it from main roads and I’ve driven by it hundreds of times and never noticed anything suspicious.
Ach du Leibe im Himmel
Hi All,
Didn’t it just make you all warm and toasty inside to find out The Gila Monster has Roger Stein as his PR agent?
In the immortal words of Barnfairy - vomit.
I was thinking along the lines of barf fest. Same difference.
In regard to the Penn National Jockeys, a system is tentatively underway for donations. They are not quite ready yet to go forward. I’ll let you know when I know more. I do want everyone to understand that although I’ve pushed this issue it isn’t me setting things up. Very brave people are putting it together.
Really, this has taken a lot of my heart out. I don’t know if I’ll be able to get excited about the lead-up to the Triple Crown this year. Everything just feels raw.

Um, before this gets out of hand… he’s got some horses that would be in the CANTER price range, but he has a lot of very viable runners - there’s no reason he wouldn’t sell those as racehorses or run them until they are claimed, as everyone else does when they disperse. Expecting his entire stable to be for sale for CANTER prices and in dire need of rescue is being overly dramatic. I’m sure he would welcome some help in rehoming the less desirable (unsound, unattractive, etc) horses though. But, those are the ones no one wants anyway.
As I said earlier, horses are bing offered for sale to other trainers.
If he truly wants to be pro active and make some sort of amends.
All he has to do is provide a real list of what he has for sale at each price level.
Provide a brief description of any unsoundness issue for those horses not being sold to run.
Trust me they have a real day to day idea whats going on with each horse there.
Let us post the list and make a day to “Walmart” Black Friday shop, money in hand trailers in tow.
Would certainly clean his farm site out.
No reason horses for at track can’t be trucked in for the day. Not like they will loose any training time.
Cash n carry papers coggins in hand, no deposit no return no refunds.
Slam bam done deal.

I wasn’t being DRAMATIC, I was looking forward to being part of the solution . Just how VIABLE do you think Gill’s horses are going to be when his “special” training techniques wear off. ? Take a minute and read through the Fingerlakes threads before you start saying people are being dramatic and getting “out of hand”. Here’s my Fingerlakes baby “With Spirit” getting some loving from a neighbor.
Her’s pic of Cullen and “With Spirit”, other pic wouldn’t load.
Roger Stein was extremely bizarre in his take on Gill. Some postings added by others on Paulick’s were also more then slightly weird.
Of course, now Gill will say he is going to sue everyone. An attempt to shift the blame, how predictable…
CANTER is working on listing some of his horses. We are looking forward to being part of the solution.
