Business As Usual

Actually as someone with CANTER I wanted to agree with you on this point. A lot of folks are ready to jump the gun and go into panic mode here, but I expect most of the horses will go to other race homes or breeding homes, and the number that they want to sell (if they choose to work with us or not) to the outside world will be a fraction of the total they have at the farm.

I could be wrong, but there do seem to be some folks out there expecting a slew of horses to be posted at any moment (and that “emergency” type efforts will then be required), but we really don’t know anything yet, and it may be that they only need minimal assistance in getting some horses into new homes. Just don’t want rumors flying faster than they already are

I also think it’s ironic that now saving Gill horses is a top priority, but in the past, posters on this BB warned people to stay away because they were all unsound. What’s changed now? SleepyFox

I will be the 1st to say yes I would proceed with extreme caution in any ORDINARY circumstance buying a Gill horse. The horses generally offered up for re-sale from Elk Creek Ranch were sub par at best. This is an unusual situation and hopefully a one time occurance. While many potentially Will Not be sound enough or suitable for a new sports horse career in effort to re-home them exceptions need to be made.
I am getting slammed with e-mails all day long saying you can call and go see whats for sale. I have not made any call to the office @ Elk Creek to verify this.

Non horse people

SF, it seems we agree on more than we disagree on
as far as being non horse people
the racing industry is how this family is supported, (20 years) and has been for a long time. Without wanting to go into details, I totally understand the ramifications of the possible demise of horse racing (at it’s own hands) .
If you look at some of the FL roll call updates, you will see the many good stories that the public needs to be made aware of, that’s where I was coming from, NOT from some humaniac point of view.
I think a great follow up to the inevitable bashing the horse racing industry will take as a result of the Gill fiasco would be LOTS of great stories about where his horses ended up in second careers .

Hey Dick, did I miss where he said he was going to quit running his stock pending dispersal? Why wouldn’t he keep running until everything is sold?
That’s his right, but in his words he said he’s getting out of racing “right now.” Perhaps right now means in six months, but I do not perceive “right now” to be a relative term.

heres the overnight for wed

boycotting the 9th on thursday evening
but no boycotts on friday.
Riders don’t know they are in with a Gill horse until the overnight comes out. Most will take off their mounts tomorrow morning at scratch time.

Ordinarily, I hate to see an owner get out of the business, but in this case his time has come, heck it’s over due.

This isn’t the 1950’s anymore. People in the industry need to fully realizes that, and accept that when you are dealing with living creatures in the public eye, you better take care of those creatures to the best of your ability.

The bulk of the horsemen and women do. But they get no press. We need to be able to weed out those that resort to better training through chemistry. There’s been a number of trainers over the years who have had horses that should not have been in the entry box, yet are allowed to do so, every 5 or 7 days.

We’ve seen overwhelming evidence that Mr. Gill’s Eclipse award came on the backs of a lot of damaged horses. No more.

Haven’t found a direct link yet, but Raceday360 just “twittered” that the Pa. Commission has ejected Gill from Penn Nat.

You’re ooooooutta here!

From the BloodHorse:

“I own a farm and am a taxpayer in Pennsylvania. I own the largest training center in the state. Where do I not qualify (to race)? I saw the future, and it doesn’t include me.”

Please, Lord from his lips to your ears

Now dated presumably, but here is an on-camera interview with Gill for today:

WMUR 9 - New Hampshire Feb 2, 2010: “Owner Of Euthanized Race Horses Says He Has Nothing To Hide”

(Video report is at the upper right)

You folks need to listen in to Steve Byk on Sirius 126 right now, as he is saying those of us who are blogging with our ACTUAL knowledge of Mike Gill are somehow vindictive rather than knowledgable is offensive beyond belief. Please listen!! And respond. Then look into Kirk Zaidie being given stalls in Maryland after being expelled from Calder in Florida for drug issues.

Satish, Michaerl Gill DOES NOT LOVE this game!! Re:conversation with Steve Byk on Sirius 126.

according to Michael Gill his horses are entered to race tomorrow and he “does have jockeys lined up to ride”
can anyone confirm this? Because last i read, all the jockeys had boycotted the races his horses are in. I’m personally just ready for this guy to leave the industry,we don’t need owners like him giving racing a bad name

Last thing I knew the only rider listed to ride in any of the 4 races he has entries in was Gill’s.

Byk used to be relevant.
Now, he is now a “tool”. Panders to everyone he has on his program. Penn National is an easy target rather than Gill
Byk is on the internet and you can hear him 4-7pm

Someone should call into his program and set the record straight re Gill.

Where’s Dick Hertz been since the big announcement of Gill’s ejection? I imagine he’s happy as a clam!

If this was already posted, sorry for the repeat. If not, just adding the TB Times’ story on the PA Racing Commission banning Gill from Penn (but not from Philly):

He should be busy bedding down some stalls. The way he and many others here have advocated running Gill out of business (with no stated evidence beyond “stats”,) then I think he needs to take on about twenty, others here need to take on at least five apiece. Forget this “just send money,” let’s man up and show Gill that his horses can receive better care by his critics.
