Business As Usual

Meeting between Gill and PA Racing Commission postponed:
In the past all show jumpers, hunters, dressage, eventers, etc etc were almost exclusively TBs. Most, usually had raced before finding new vocations.

Growing popularity of dumbloods is another side effect of this country’s lack of horsemanship. It takes a Horseman to throw a leg over a good Thoroughbred. Horsemen are nearing extinction, they’ve been replaced by horse owners:rolleyes:
I don’t know what WB’s you have but mine are far more technical rides than my TB’s. And the success of European Show Jumping and Dressage on the international scene sort of negates the idea that true ā€œhorsemanā€ are teh only the one’s who can successfully ride TB’s.
When I said people we deal with want WB’s over TB’s it is because they want the right equipment, just like a skier or a skater wants the best possible skates or skies. Their logic makes perfect sense to me. TB’s are not popular, in our area, not because of them being TB’s, but because of the negative press like the one’s at this track, shady groups rehoming TB’s, the large number or ā€œidiotsā€ with TB’s who have not trained them properly and the simple fact the WB’s are ā€œdesignedā€ to do the job better. It is fine with me, I’ll just keep the good TBs!!

More trouble for Gill’s mortgage company:

There was a point in time when I thought Michael Gill was the worst thing that ever happened to Penn National. The sad thing is this is not the case. There is corruption at all levels at Penn National and it’s alarming to say the least. What has happened there over the last several years since slots were introduced should be shown in a manual for what ā€œnot to doā€ when you get slots. We are not talking about little misdemeanors here, we’re talking about high-level felonies which may result in 10+ years in prison for some people. For those that doubt the validity of what I say, I’ve never been wrong on this thread and I’m not wrong when I say there will be no less than six arrests made and the people who get arrested will range from horseman to people who get a paycheck from Penn Gaming Inc to people who get a paycheck from the State of Pennsylvania.

You can only cover up a pile of dog shit for so long before someone finds it. Those that helped cover up the corruption should also be punished and lose their job.

Shame on Peter Carlino for allowing this mess to spiral out of control. Shame on the PA Racing Commission for hiding behind their mouthpiece Justin Fleming.

It’s about time people like Melinda Tucker, Director of Racetrack Gaming, get off their ass and start asking questions. I’ll give you one to start Ms. Tucker. Can Penn Gaming Inc. be trusted to operate slot machines given their complete botching of the goings on at Penn National???

truth will always reveal itself

Huh. What a surprise…NOT

Not exactly on topic, but it made me laugh. Longo has nominated a 4yo filly named Black Magic Mama to the Apple Blossom; she’s trained by Darrel Delahoussaye. And is entered today in an AOC14000 at PEN (took her something like 13 tries to break her maiden).

Dick, I have a snow shovel you can borrow. Or hey, just take it. Sounds like you’ll need a bunch of them.

I have come on here to clear one big issue up. I can no longer stand to see the charachter of John Krulock assasinated on this web site. The truth of the matter is that John Krulock IS a good man.
I am a horse owner that came into Penn National just a short time back. John was able to arrange for a number of stalls at Penn for my trainer even though there was a large waiting list of people who had filled out stall apps to get in. He allowed me to bypass the grueling and somewhat impossible stall seeking task at Penn National and moved me right in with no questions asked by Paul Jenkins and no strings attached. There was never any money exchanged and the racing secretary welcomed me with open arms and told me that John would take good care of me.
As we began to enter horses I found John to be an invaluable asset to my racing program. He was always able to tell me early in the morning what races would be going. And on one particular occasion even after my races were called off, John was able to make a phone call and got the racing secretary to use two of my races in place of some others. He was even able many times to make a call and tell me most of the horses in the race and whether or not my horse a decent chance to win.
I always try to use his riders because of the outstanding service and polite manner with which he conducts his business. There were some occasions on which his jockeys had other obligations. He would always bring another good rider to my attention. When I would tell him that I felt bad that he would not get the money, he would always assure me that this rider would take care of him anyway.
One of the major obstacles that I had to face at Penn was the reality that some horses would have to ship for spots out of town. John would always make sure that I had a full compliment of pre signed in slips to get back into the stable gate. This was a huge relief as most of the backside has to go individually to the racing secretary and beg for slips usually with threat of losing their stalls. Never once did I have this obstacle as I had access to my pre signed slips with no hassle and surely no threats.
As I started to get more active in the claiming game, John once again stepped up to the plate to assist with my effort. He would tell me about certain horses that would be OK to claim and tell me if others were not in the proper condition to be taken. If his riders had ridden the horse before, he would many times make a call to find out if the horse was good to claim. But he always had ethics in this practice. He told me that if it were a horse trained by a good friend of his, that he simply could not provide me with information.
I was visiting the barn area the one day and started walking around with John. There was a young trainer that I knew that was complaining about not being able to get two stalls to claim a horse for a high profile owner. John said that he felt horrible about this but the eight stalls located beside the trainer that had been sitting open for three weeks were for one of his friends to claim horses for that same owner. So to pay the guy back, John helped the trainer to get another client and a stall. He did not have to help this person, but he is a stand up guy.
So to sum up my point, John Krulock not only runs a great business, but does so, in my opinion in a clean and honest fashion. He maintains a high degree of ethics while running a successful operation. So please stop spreading these false rumors. The truth is that if many of you owners or trainers asked for his help, he would pull all of these same strings for you. He truely does not discriminate
And I almost forgot one of his biggest connections. John told me that he used to have almost daily meetings with the stewards to discuss racing and just talk about stuff on the racetrack. And as you know it never hurts to have a guy in good with the big guys officiating your sport. Not to say that he had an unfair advantage there, but he described one of the gentlemen as a close personal friend who would help him out in a jam.

LMFAO!

Wow. Nice find. Sad, but true.

Wow, that was a lot more condemning than he planned it to be I imagine. Nothing like coming out and admitting that you broke all the rules. I have no idea who Krulock is but I sure wouldn’t ride one of his riders after seeing it in black and white that he touts horses that are good claims. How insane is this idiot that he thought he was doing the guy a favor by saying all that?
Give somebody enough rope and they eventually hang themselves but Gill is taking everybody with him in the process. Maybe this is the start of the housecleaning.

Laurie, I think this letter is dripping with sarcasm, not someone trying to stick up for Krulock. I think this ā€œownerā€ is hypothetically speaking as Gill…I would say stick a fork in him, he’s done. What a cesspool.

Amazing what people will believe just because it’s on the internet.

Sounds like that owner unintentionally just threw John Krulock under the bus.

I hate to say it but definately believe what you read in this case!!! I can say with complete certainty this IS what has been going on and I’m glad someone wrote it for the rest of the world to see. It’s sad but true.

Thats how I read it. I hate to think something like this is true especially since I have always used John’s riders.

sounds like its already been reported

The internet is filled with plenty of hearsay, but there hasn’t been a lot of hearsay on this particular thread. We could only wish that be the case.
