Business As Usual

Racing Today in the Mid-Atlantic Region?

Laurel - Check
Philadelphia Park - Check (canceled after 4 races)
Charles Town - Check

Penn National - Canceled

53 horses worked this morning including Stakes winner Peppi Knows working at a mile. Yet, the track finds a reason to cancel the races. Accountability is lacking with Penn Gaming.

6:30PM Expected Forecast: 38 Degrees and clear Winds 5-10 mph

10PM Expected Forecast: 34 Degrees and winds of 6 mph

So the question is, why is there even winter racing at Penn National?

Wow, that was a lot more condemning than he planned it to be I imagine.
I think whoever posted that, purposely posted it that way. They knew exactly what they were doing. I can read into it.

I have no doubt that some of which was written is true while some is added BS. My guess is, this was Gill who wrote that or one of his cronies.

Word has it jocks are refusing to ride because it’s soft along the rail.

I’d recommend no year round racing at any track, but the way these guys are going there will be sooner than most folks think no more racing there at all. Seems they’re doing their best to get rid of it. Notice their casino can very easily have the big window covered over and just do something else with that room.

I’d believe it to have been in the long term plans all along.

Four-page article in the Boston Globe about Gill and his ā€œtroublesā€:

http://www.boston.com/sports/other_sports/horse_racing/articles/2010/03/02/a_run_for_his_money/

He says that, on the lives of his kids, he’s never cheated in horse racing.

He showed the reporter a folder with what he said were receipts of the sale of 173 horses he sold for a $1 last year. (No indication that the reporter actually looked through the folder.)

Suffolk is considering banning him – again – if he stays in racing.

Of course he has not cheated, he pays people to cheat for him.

Sadly the guy doesn’t think too much of his kids either it appears. He is the type of person we have all heard about that would sell out their own mother.

As for the folder, he’s had plenty of time to put something fraudulently together.

I believe he could have sold 173 horses for $1- but to WHOM?? I know lots of unsavory types that would line up to fill their rigs with $1- horses…

Exactly. In the Gill dictionary, selling a horse to a broker = retirement.

Someone at the farm told a friend of mine today that they are down to around 30-35 horses. Also said a bunch were given to someone at Mountaineer, who’s now selling them there.

Gotta Jump In

I don’t know what WB’s you have but mine are far more technical rides than my TB’s. And the success of European Show Jumping and Dressage on the international scene sort of negates the idea that true ā€œhorsemanā€ are teh only the one’s who can successfully ride TB’s.
When I said people we deal with want WB’s over TB’s it is because they want the right equipment, just like a skier or a skater wants the best possible skates or skies. Their logic makes perfect sense to me. TB’s are not popular, in our area, not because of them being TB’s, but because of the negative press like the one’s at this track, shady groups rehoming TB’s, the large number or ā€œidiotsā€ with TB’s who have not trained them properly and the simple fact the WB’s are ā€œdesignedā€ to do the job better. It is fine with me, I’ll just keep the good TBs!!
And what are is that area??

I sell OTTB’s and have horses training with the top echeleon in the eventing world.
No not just 1 fluke but several horses with several different trainer/riders whose name appear on COTH regularly.

I also have sold horses that have won many championships and placed at ā€œAAā€ shows in both hunters and jumpers. From Canada to Wellington. PM me will be happy to provide the bonifieds.

Trainers buy what the $$ handlers want. And if its a Ford they want the biggest best most expensive Ford doing the Job. Same if its Chevy or XYZ breeder.
The flavor of the month club.
Good horseman are ruled by the people who control the purse strings, and where the biggest mark-up can be had.
The Prestige’ of owning a Fluberholdenreinlanderberger is way more ego appealing than an OTTB.
This is a mind set that can/could be corrected but it won’t until the $$ falls alot further.

Yes there are bad organizations, yes there are horse hoarders. But there are also ALOT of us who do one heck of a good job weeding the wheat from the chaffe seling the right product for the job at a remarkable affordable price.
Take off the designer label put them all in a plain brown wrapper.

Barn 7 ???

Hey Dickie,
Seems for the last couple of days Barn 7 has been off limits with nobody allowed near it. Those who work there must change clothes after being in there.

Nobody is allowed in the track from Morrissey’s either. Nobody is supposed to talk about this but rumor has it that it might be equine herpes.

Far be it from any of us to let these people keep this stuff under wraps what’s going on in there Dickie?

Also, who’s barn might that be?

Inquiring minds want to know:D

anyone know?

Any idea if they are allowing shippers in? I was planning on entering Wed for Sat.

question? How does this involve Morrisseys? Were overflow horses from barn 7 kept also over there?

Two horses shipped up from Florida on the same truck. One went to Morrissey’s the other went to the track. They both died. Both places are now under strict quarantine.

Oh man, that doesn’t sound good.

.
ok…now, if they are monitoring folks and implementing quarantine actions on people from barn 7, how about those folks in and out at Morrisseys?
In our barn we have several people who come from over there.? I would think the same safeguards be in place concerning them…?
Supposedly nobody is allowed in the track from over there. Don’t know if anything else is being done over there as far as quarantining, universal precautions etc. The mere suggestion of cleanliness connected with that place is such a contradiction in terms it’s hard to even put the two words together in the same sentence:eek: (seen their pool?) I guess we’ll know more soon enough.
