Business As Usual
Trained by Stephanie Beattie came back really lame after winning the 6th race tonight at Penn. You Penn Patrol people better keep an eye out that this one doesn’t end up getting transferred in a parking lot near you this weekend.
Has anyone checked up on this horse?
Karma is a bitch
Hopefully, karma happens in the here-and-now, as there are horses suffering in that time plane.

I read these topics about Penn and am incredulous. Surely there is some group, authority, organization, or government agency that would have a field day with this.

I say this because it appears to go far beyond incompetence, as surely, there are laws being broken.
From yesterday’s DRF:

NYRA’s investigation revealed
that Campo and Robinson never sold the horse, but
instead allowed a third party to give him away to the
Amish in Pennsylvania after it was determined that an
ankle injury sustained in a $7,500 claiming race at
Aqueduct Dec. 30 would preclude the animal from
racing again.
How convenient. And sick that someone is STILL accepting that excuse. But hey, it works.

The racing industry has terminal cancer. It’s rotting slowly and has no idea how to treat itself. Slots are the last attempt at chemo.

Lets all pray the horse hasnt ended up here…(or any horse).

The reality of what it means TODAY when a horse is sent to auction/or/killer buyers is due…! A curernt video should be the opening to all HPBA meetings just as a reminder of Who is the first line of defense for the equines from PN… the horsemen and their decisions.

The RACE fund works elsewhere, it can work at PN.

Got an agenda you’d like to broadcast?

TBs are the least statistic wise to end up on a plate.

Why do you say that? I know the numbers of QHs are greater, bc the overall numbers are greater and they lump grades in with QHs, but it is estimated that about a third of all TBs end up at slaughter…

Regarding PN: what about trying to contact a local TV station that has a consumer advocate? Or, local cable TV news. In NJ on News 12, there is a pet show that is hosted by a vet … maybe something exists on PA “News 12”?

And you don’t? Please do a bit of research prior to spewing…

Yes, but thought I’d help open your eyes a bit.

Take note: TODAY when a horse is …
No mention of any specific breed… All horses.

The only thing presented was facts. This thread is riddled with inconsistant policy --- and inconsistant administration of policy. Trainers and Owners from PN are knowingly and consciously delivering their horses to this fate!~ Why?--- has little bearing anymore.

Shrek said something about an onion ....it has many layers... this thread peels to one fact that discloses another...and going full circle --- simply brings it all back to our own humanity --- and the treatment of whats in our world.
Didnt you cringe when that horses leg snapped?
Didnt you blink when the bolt missed? and the horse stood reeling in pain?
Did you feel anything looking those horses in the eye knowing their horrific fate?
Did you not hear that horse screaming?
Agenda?. You tell me WHO can stand idly by and find nothing in their heart to do SOMETHING?

This issue involves us all --from every screen name in COTH, to every 2 feet caring for 4 hoofs across the world --

this is the legacy of our humanity.

Heres a bit more documented information concerning the consequence of the decision to deliver a horse to a kill buyer – the starting point!

According to who?

TAKE IT SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!

This is and has been without a doubt the best thread this website has ever had on it of any subject ever.

The doings of these people needs to be exposed, people need to go to jail, and if it results in that track being shut down then so be it. It can’t continue as is.

Having said that I’ll ask the anti-slaughter crusaders to cease and desist your attempts at derailing this thread!

This stuff is far too important to be interrupted by these incessant non-stop commercials! Please start another thread about that stuff. How about it mods?

Can I second this? Not that there isn’t a valid debate in the slaughter issue, but start a separate thread for it and let this one stay on track.

To the Penn Nat Horseman, if Stephanie Beattie was and continues to be given a pass by Penn management for her retirement practices does this compromise her ability to negotiate deals between management and the HBPA moving forward? I would say YES.

PA Adopts Milkshake Testing

After what seems like decades, PA will begin testing for TCO2. In typical PA Racing Commission fashion, the policy is destined to fail for the following statement from their press release:

"Horses may be tested at random, with probable cause, or at the discretion of race track stewards or the Horse Racing Commission. Penalties for samples that test positive may include a $1,500 fine, a 30- to 60-day suspension, and loss of purse for a first offense. "

In other words, if they don’t suspect you are doing it you will not get tested. Meanwhile, the stewards will likely require the testing for the people they do not like.

Business As Usual

Arrests? What a disgraceful joke. I hear all of you ambitious site dwellers talk about arrests and criminal investigations and theories of broken laws and corrupt racing office procedures. Where the hell is the evidence? This madness has to end some time soon at the risk of all posters being institutionalized for erratic reasoning and unfounded conspiracy theories.

My good sources tell me that there really is no investigation. They jumped through a few hoops, had a few hearings, and have buried it like Jimmy Hoffa with no hope of being found. They put some confused cop in charge, knowing that he would stumble his way through the racing underworld freezing up like a deer in headlights. The truth of the matter is the guy would probably have major difficulty nailing a J walker or enforcing a speeding ticket. When is the last time that any of you saw a mall cop chase someone down to lay down the law? Exactly! Dead issue people! No wrong has been done here so let’s just move on with life.

The Stephanie Beattie attacks are just as unwarranted. She is a first class trainer who has revolutionized the way with which the HBPA fights for its members and negotiates with management. Most educated people will tell you that until this point not a single soul was able to speak to management and accomplish anything productive. Steph has been able to change that in a big way, effective dealing with management and getting them to move on a number of important issues. You people should be shaking her hand and patting her on the back instead of attempting to ruin her storied career and legacy.

So let’s just move past this and try to make our work environment better. I know that Stephanie is striving to make this place better and we would be better served just to take her lead. Enough conspiracy people, racing doesn’t need another black eye from a bunch of false stories and trumped up charges.

John, I also think the investigation is in dire straits, but not quite dead. Ed Marsico should just stop the bleeding right now with tax payers dollars already being excessive with no progress. There has been no care whatsoever by the State Police about the horses in all of this which is pretty sad if you ask me. You got people with the Commission leaking things to Penn Gaming which in my opinion ruined the entire investigation. Shame on the PSP for keeping the Commission in the loop with important facts about the case.

There once was a good case brewing, now everyone is scrambling to save their behind for various reasons. Then again, this is Pennsylvania we’re talking about.

How many more months is there going to be cancelled grand jury proceedings? Proof is in the pudding. DA and PSP failed miserably.

Dick, get it through your head. There is no current investigation. We are now just talking about formalities and basic questioning because all leads have come to a dead end. The DA will say that they did their part by looking in to matters but there was no concrete evidence to bring charges. Not a person will fault him for following up on a lead and ceasing to investigate and prosecute when he found no laws broken. The investigating officer will return to a normal life of routine registration checking with the occasional spice up of checking a bingo hall for a minor noise disturbance. Business as usual is clean at Penn National and you guys will have to start a new thread.

I also think that your persecution of the Commission in Harrisburg is misguided. If the commission head at Penn wouldn’t have been sitting on his hands the entire time, some progress may have been made. But while he was filing paperwork and checking vacation brochures, the Department of Ag employees just assumed that things were running well. He should have been more assertive earlier in the process instead of desperately attmepting to clean up the mess when it was essentially too late. But, that’s business as usual in the life of a pampered state employee. So lay off the Commission in Harrisburg and actually give them a chance to make things right in the future.
