Business As Usual

The anti-slaughter issue came to birth on the 53rd page … somewhere in the 1050’s posts---- Steph Beattie sold a horse to DD to run when it was injured only months before.
SB couldnt account for many horses. SB;s horses found and saved in slaughter pens… its all there, oh and… I didnt notice anyone else coming under fire… they all had contracts and answers.

As was pointed out .... it then unravels further.........

when the Pa Equestrian posted her front page declaration of providing bright futures for racehorses, she herself unearthed most of this controversy.
The RACE fund rebuttal then sent it all in a new direction by showing that there WAS other recouse to be taken in placing horses ----in place for years-- yet, SB chose slaughter.

the whys? the what fors? the unanswered questions (the lies)_then sparked the flames even more ...

Maybe the message is one of a moral- ethical one ...

rather than humanely dispose of unproductive business property… torture was chosen.
Hard to accept that any type of horse welfare would be beneficial based on SB’s thinking .

After what seems like decades, PA will begin testing for TCO2. In typical PA Racing Commission fashion, the policy is destined to fail for the following statement from their press release:

"Horses may be tested at random, with probable cause, or at the discretion of race track stewards or the Horse Racing Commission. Penalties for samples that test positive may include a $1,500 fine, a 30- to 60-day suspension, and loss of purse for a first offense. "

In other words, if they don’t suspect you are doing it you will not get tested. Meanwhile, the stewards will likely require the testing for the people they do not like.

Steph will be under a microscope.
Just kidding.

Dick, get it through your head. There is no current investigation. We are now just talking about formalities and basic questioning because all leads have come to a dead end. The DA will say that they did their part by looking in to matters but there was no concrete evidence to bring charges. Not a person will fault him for following up on a lead and ceasing to investigate and prosecute when he found no laws broken. The investigating officer will return to a normal life of routine registration checking with the occasional spice up of checking a bingo hall for a minor noise disturbance. Business as usual is clean at Penn National and you guys will have to start a new thread.

I also think that your persecution of the Commission in Harrisburg is misguided. If the commission head at Penn wouldn’t have been sitting on his hands the entire time, some progress may have been made. But while he was filing paperwork and checking vacation brochures, the Department of Ag employees just assumed that things were running well. He should have been more assertive earlier in the process instead of desperately attmepting to clean up the mess when it was essentially too late. But, that’s business as usual in the life of a pampered state employee. So lay off the Commission in Harrisburg and actually give them a chance to make things right in the future.
John Sunwack = Steve Byk??

According to who?
It is estimated that 10-12,000 out of over 100K horses that are sent to slaughter every year are TBs, and the annual foal crop is in the mid 30K range.

Beautiful night for racing at Penn National. Lets celebrate some of the good instead of dwelling on the phony accusations. All of you should work as hard as Steph Beattie does on her barn. Use this work ethic and the class of her operation as the model for successful business. Give some credit where it’s due here people. There are barns here that have put us on the map and given us some respectability.

The only investigation that should be taking place is one where we, as horsemen, learn from some of the local stars of our game. Appreciate it for what it is

John I really pity you if you think that everything is on the up and up at Penn National. you are just another one of the misinformed that believes corruption should be swept away and nobody should be held accountable for their wrongdoing. i’m sure by the sound of your post that you are probably one that has benefited in some way by others unethical behavior. If that isn’t the case I can appreciate your opinions but i really feel thast you are looking at things thru rose colored glasses. the entire Gill situation is criminal, there have been people that i know were asked for money to obtain stalls, forged coggins that disappeared, and the list goes on. and you say that Penn National isn’t corrupt. The commission in Harrisburg doesn’t want the commission at the racetrack to cooperate with the PSP. these are facts John! now don’t ever tell me that Penn National isn’t dirty! I suppose we will all see in due time.

Note to self…don’t take the bait.

Wow thats 10%! Which breeds do the other 90,000 belong to and who sent them to slaughter? Oh that’s right they can’t be persacuted or attacked for all the indiscrimanent breeding and mishandeling of there horses because the horses don’t have tatoo’s to track them down. Just an observation.

John, i have one more point to share with you that destroys your theory about corruption at Penn National. Many people think that a few individuals were responsible for starting this investigation. Well, let me set you straight! this investigation was brought about by an individual in the Commission who after repeated efforts to clean up some of the dirt got absolutely no cooperation from others including Penn management. this individual, after exhausting efforts finally decided to contact other authorities, thus the PSP investigation commenced. and also, if there wasn’t substantial evidence pointing to unethical behavior there would have never been grand jury hearings. and you’re expecting some of us to believe that Penn National is not corrupt. and as far as Stephanie Beattie and her storied career and legacy, PLEASE, give us all a break.

Where are the Coggins? And there have been how many arrests? And just what wrongdoing over stalls has been proven? And all the fake info about some ambitious rookie traffic cops has provided how much satisfaction and clean up? Big Bopper, you sound like you would believe any line of garbage that some backside moron would feed you. But then again people like you hang on every opportunity to celebrate someone’s misery. It’s sad, you almost seem like a helpless charity case

And stop blaming every issue on the commission. The guy with the angry face and the odd mustache and glasses, dropped the ball from the beginning. He was content to pick on the little guy and didn’t want the aggravation of attacking any serious issues. Simple case of close your eyes and pray the problems go away. If the proper info was passed along downtown, it will be dealt with. But the things you posters are describing are being blown way out of proportion

You are wasting your time posting your nonsense John. Nobody here is going to buy any of your con. I for one, can read right thru it. Obviously, you are a puppet sent to defend the abusers and those with greased palms.

Where is the other Commission person at Penn who is on site? He seems to have gone into hibernation like a bear cub getting ready for a long winter.

Just look at the sig line…it speaks volumes that “john” doesn’t even consider…

This list is interesting. I think Sweet Vixen posted it earlier.

http://www.alexbrownracing.com/wiki/index.php/Kill_buyers

The last name on the list is Vern Rings who is also a jockey agent at Penn National according to the March Condition Book which I have. The phone numbers match. Is it well known that Mr. Rings buys horses to go to slaughter in addition to being a jock agent or is this list incorrect?

I wonder if old faxes can be somehow retrieved(and printed out) through the system like they do with text messaging? Anyone know?

Anyone who believes that the issues at Penn National are not inextricably connected to equne welfare issues needs their head examined. That includes shoddy management practices- all the way to shipping to slaughter.

Where is a really big broom when you need it?

If you people put as much time into your own life as you do everyone else’s you might be more successful in your own endeavors. Success will always have its doubter’s but this is pathetic.

Again, I will write reeaallll slooooowwww. According to WHO?

Wha wha, I believe that there is only one commission person in charge,on site at the track. It’s the guy that looks like he’s always constipated. It is a large task to fill for only one person. They should hire someone that can give him relief. Ha! Relief! But this is what happens when we don’t head the problems off in the beginning. Turning a blind eye catches up quickly
