Really nice horse all around, just wondering if his at times lightly holding head/nose a bit to the left is rider seat/hand/situation induced, or is something else and if it is there, does it matter?
He pulls at your heart, looks like a horse you want to take and say he followed me home.
Yes, check out that canter! And his willingness to depart into it so easily. And back up straight. And demonstrate that schwingy walk.
All in all a perfect complement to Nosey. Added bonus? He seems like someone, somewhere, put at least 60-90 days on him so you can progress to riding him this summer!
He’s a nice horse, and he does look well cared for, even if a little skinny. He’s four years old, so some of the loss of condition could just be a result of a growth spurt.
Surprised to see this little guy is still available, my first thought upon seeing him was he has to be Nosey’s long lost cousin and for once, a price that I actually find reasonable. Given his size/build, length of tail and the time of year it wouldn’t really surprise me all that much if this guy is actually an early 2024 model yearling.
First I wondered if he was trying to look at whoever was videoing, then it seemed to happen more than such would warrant, at times was not there, so who knows if it is even something or happenstance right then?
He seems very sensible and kind and, given the circumstances, not worried but just watching and going along with things, seemingly has a wonderful steady temperament.
OK, now I had to go back and scrutinize that short video. I think I see what you’re both noticing.
To me, the rider tends to hold and pull more with his left hand. In a knotted rope halter, that could make the horse’s head tilt a little.
Also, when my sister and I would restart OTTBs, we often had to persevere through what we called “the head twisty stage” as they learned to accept the bit as something other than an object to lean on. They always grew out of it.
However, just as the guy slides off, it does seem like the horse wants to keep his head tilted left for no apparent reason. So is it something? Or is it nothing? Is it a habit that has developed due to being started poorly or a symptom of an underlying issue?
He’s a cute mover, in decent condition, looks pretty darn quiet. He just had his teeth done and feet trimmed, so there’s a good chance he’s halter broke…what’s not to love? I wish I had the bandwidth for another!
I just re-watched and they DID say he is already halter broke, in case that was a deterrent for anyone… I don’t know why they didn’t start with him on the line like they usually do.
@MNick when I was a less adultier adult I’d be on the way with a trailer already At least you have a logical excuse to purchase with another youngster!
I vote that we send him off to @2bayboys for a Nosey 2.0.
If anyone does want to get the 13 hand TB, I have space to safely quarantine at no charge. You pay for HIS feed and care. I believe last call is today. Located 2 hrs from Bowie.
(Link doesn’t work for me.) Congratulations! I hope you can post other pix soon. He looked so sweet and I love the way he is put together.
I was going to comment on the head tilt earlier to say one of my ottb’s had a tilt with his poll to the right, chin left. Not all the time and only when being handled never just running around in the pasture. After about two years it finally dawned on me he wasn’t doing it anymore. So
