I hope he’s what you’ve been dreaming of! He looked like such a good egg in the Bowie video.
Exactly! Hopefully he fits rockymouse to a T and we get to follow another Bo/Nosey thread for a long time.
He is SO sweet! I hope someone gets him! He looks like my yearling that came from Bowie 🥹
Me too. If I didn’t think it would result in divorce I’d bring him home in a heartbeat! If someone could maybe just drop him off outside my front gate? Then it’d be a whole different ball game.
He looks very quiet and sensible - head down, not scrambling or getting overly worked up at being pushed around in a chaotic environment. Legs look pretty darn straight and he moves out easily, but also isn’t putting out more energy than necessary. Feet and teeth are done, he’s halter broke… the most anyone would have to do is probably a FEC/deworm and get him UTD on vaccinations. And he’s cheap!
The only things I can see that don’t work in his favor are the fact that he’s plain-colored, and on the small side given his supposed age.
OK, COTHers. Let’s all donate a little money to cover sale/quarantine/transport costs and get that guy dropped off anonymously at @Heinz_57 's farm!
I’m in!
Me too!
Totally agree! I wonder if they just slapped an age to him I don’t know why there aren’t more suckers for a plain bay. I love them.
Maybe we fundraise to have it dropped in your pasture
Edit: just saw that was a suggestion
I could quarantine if someone pitches in on feed/hay!
Just a reminder that my Nosey was listed as a 3-yr-old, when she was in fact a yearling. Just sayin’.
Yeah, I mentioned earlier that I wouldn’t be surprised if he was actually a 2024 yearling, based on the length of his tail and his build. No way to know until someone brings him home!
The guy does say “coming 2yo” in the video, so I’d say it’s open to interpretation. If he’s not from a race breeder he could’ve been born any time of year.
@Heinz_57 there is someone who’s stepped forward to sponsor hay/feed during quarantine. You know you want him dropped off!
If we didn’t have to get a burro to keep with our goats I would cave but burros are pricey
I’m in for enabling. Just pm me
Me too. I’ll help $$.
You are a big bunch of enablers. I think DH might mutiny if I tell him I need another horse, and I barely have time for all the ones I already have.
FORTUNATELY, his listing now says “out of stock” so I hope that means someone picked him
Not sure where you’re getting donkeys from, but they go for <$250 around here! Unless they are broke to ride, of course. I suppose one that is halter broke and proven as a good livestock guardian might be a little more spendy though.
And now, my picks for the ones left at Bowie:
FLASHY 2yo redhead DHH (I’d sell a kidney for this one, he looks very sweet and laid back):

FLASHY 2yo Bay DHH:

Poor boy is HUNGRY!
priorities are straight on that one. Food on the floor > guy swinging stuff at me.
That boy is going to be a LOOKER.
Following up on my own statement, it looks like he was bought by a rescue - RAVE in SC. I don’t know anything about them, fingers crossed it is a reputable place that will adopt them out to good homes and not just another hoarder disguised as a “rescue”.
What?! $250?! I’m in Stephenville and they are listed for $700-1200! I’m going to Bowie tomorrow to find one. So let me know if you need anything
I’m all for helping with a rescue but definitely have learned which rescues hoard horses in the area
I’m about an hour from Elkhart Horse Auction (which is every Saturday, and they have online LIVE bidding although I don’t see any donkeys listed yet for tonight). They have donks pretty often, mostly unhandled but sometimes you’ll see halter broke ones. When I’ve nothing better to do on Saturday nights, I sit and watch the auction. I like to keep tabs on what prices are doing.
Hopefully you find something good at Bowie! And not too many somethings Feel free to grab that red DHH and drop him off in my front yard
I could go on a rant about “rescues”, it seems only a select few are actually truly above board and legitimately helping the horses that actually need it. But I won’t.
