Buying from Bowie “kill pen”?

@MNick is much closer than I am, maybe she knows of somewhere?

Thanks for the good ideas! If I can locate a place to keep him for a month that would be ideal.

It would be even better if he could be gelded before coming here, but not everyone wants to deal with that sort of thing.

I am going to reach out to Bowie and see what they would charge to haul and how close they come to me.

He could also come straight here, just need to scramble on temporary diggs and time is short currently.

I should be much better prepared for the inevitable. On my next break I will work more on this crazy plan.

So does anyone have any idea what it might cost to have a horse shipped from the auction to SC Kansas? Just a rough estimate? Do they have to be quarantined before coming into another state, or is shipping with the current Coggins enough?

Ack. I don’t need another horse, but . . . That filly.

Not Kansas, but from Bowie to outside of DC was quoted at $1400.00, you would be much closer in Kansas. Shipper said that she didn’t need quarantine, just coggins and health certificate they provide.

This is why I was asking for a quote… someone needs this ASB. He is super nice and would make a fantastic eventing/dressage prospect.

And would that someone be you?

He is very flashy and seems calm and unfrazzled. Unfortunately, some people might pass on him because of his feet. But they just look big, flat and neglected. He doesn’t appear sore at all.

There is a rescue in that area that I have followed for a couple years that just advertised that they offer quarantine board and I know they’d be able to handle gelding and aftercare. I don’t know them personally, but it’s a small time operation and they seem to care for the horses well (facility is nothing fancy). I can PM you the name if you’d like.

@Alex_and_Bodie_s_Mom I’d be happy to give you the name of the shipper I used, she’s pretty quick with giving quotes. I know she goes all around the central-ish US.

Please do! That’s a great place to start. Thank you!

I don’t have a Facebook account, so I am at the mercy of all of you wonderful enablers and Google when it comes to leads.

We all have ones that tug on our hearts. They all make me sad. But I am trying hard to raise funds to get this big old man to Florida!

What a sweet boy! Hope you get him.

Those ears! He’s adorable!

Way too big for me - he’s already a big boy, but with some good groceries he gonna be BIG. I’d need a step ladder to groom him, lol, but he’s so cute.

If you’ve got venmo or paypal, I’d be willing to chip in a bit (much as a number of COTH aunties did for Bert & Ernie)

Is it American Stock Horse Hauling? I just looked at their Facebook page. They come pretty close to me, it looks like, on some of their trips.

Damn. Someone talk me out of this.

Believe me, I am short and weigh 100 pounds. He is HUGE. But the last one I took in from New Holland was over 19 hands. Just so grateful and kind. My farrier for sure will not be thrilled.
I can pm zelle info. Though I am better at paypal and venmo. I appreciate any help.
My husband is not going to be thrilled but has been good at covering his eyes and shaking his head at my horse insanity. This horse is the last thing I need, but these old work horses have a quiet way of fitting in.

It’s probably only gonna be $40, but PM me your paypal or venmo. I’m okay with either - whichever you prefer. I suspect that there are other COTH aunties willing to ‘facilitate’ as well (I have been paying attention to this thread!)

I have not really participated in this thread much, but I can tell that most of us reading the thread are facilitators. And at least sometimes, even when we cannot ourselves take in yet another very cute questionable horse, are willing to contribute to bad (yet ultimately good) decisions by others.
