California Chrome?

Ah yes… California Chromes Home - formerly Bring Chrome Home. The page where they see depression and anxiety in a pic of him relaxing. Or almost every picture, to be honest. The page where they insist he is being bred to death, his coat is awful, he is depressed. The page where they know he is often abused and being mismanaged. FTR - crossties are terrible things. The page where they have actually suggested more than once to donate money, pool their resources, buy Chrome and bring precious Chromie home so they can stuff him with cookies and kiss him on his nose.

Then there was the UPROAR about how he was cruelly stuffed in a dark box and shipped as cargo on a long flight when he should apparently have had free run of the plane…

Not terrible for first time out, after a 6 months layoff. One of the better CC progeny I’ve seen running so far.

Here he is in January at the Arrow Stud stallion parade https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMh6elr51Vg

Clearly neglected and pining away for Art Sherman and his US groom.

And all his extreme Chromies who are the only ones who understand him…as witness by the comment under that video.

The commenter must have very little experience managing breeding stallions.
Funny that she criticizes the chain in Chrome’s mouth, which the person leading must have thought was unnecessary because he removed it and adjusted it to sit under Chrome’s chin. But only after the horse had done a few turns and was behaving well.

The Chromies are scary! I have sadly developed a dislike for the horse because of his fans.

I am sorry to hear this libgrrl. My friends have said the same thing. They have posted positive comments about the horse and his connections on other sites and his fan pages only to be ridiculed. Unpleasant to say the least. The worst part is that their social media pages were bombarded with crazy fake profiles and their friend list names were copied and placed on fake profiles. Talk about scary…imagine opening a message or post from who you think is a good friend only to see a bunch of dead and emaciated animals. I don’t believe these are fans of California Chrome. I do believe he is being used to promote an agenda. I feel bad for the horse, he is the last of his kind, and an honest horse.

There are many batsh*t crazy Chrome fans out there. They are all too real. They “communicate” with him. They can tell from a picture that he is deeply depressed or starving or not being kissed on the nose enough or missing Mrs. Pasture’s Cookies or longing for his Chromies who “understand” him or confused because he cannot speak Japanese or - this was a good one - is a sex slave forced to breed mares against his will.

They think they can pool their resources and buy him back… and keep him… well, that is a detail yet to be determined. Some of this nonsense has died down… but it is still out there.

What “agenda” is he being used to promote?

How is he “the last of his kind”?

OMG, I don’t follow Chrome anywhere so I mostly avoid the bath*t crazy Chrome fans (partly why I don’t follow him and if I do see something about him, do NOT read the subsequent comments).

The one above is hysterical.

Your post made me go back and look at the comments. That comment made me giggle.

That part is the best. Sure looks like walking to me. How does that even slightly qualify as “practically running”?

Lani looks good. Seems like his temperament hasn’t changed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PaP6KcYmsxE

All of the Arrow Stud stallions look in great shape. Can’t see what the fuss coming from the Chromies is about.

Hi smoofox. The agenda refers to eradicating thoroughbred racing. The long-term plan for organizations like PETA, the Animal Liberation Front, and independents is to eliminate horse ownership. That means Olympic competition, hunter jumper, and ultimately trail riding. For a while, California Chrome’s owners looked as if they were having a great time. Too good of a time. They made it look easy. It was like “winning the lottery,” to quote one of the owners at the Garden Inn in New Jersey. A dangerous statement indeed. The last thing these groups want is to increase horse ownership.

“Last of his kind” is a reference that perhaps should read last and first of his kind. As far as Art and Alan Sherman say, California Chrome ran on none of the, or the very minimum of therapeutic medications besides lasix. According to Denise Martin in McCarrans Financial Journal, Chrome as a foal was not altered with pins or shims to straighten his legs in an attempt to achieve perfect conformation for sale. Last of all, California Chrome grew up in a social media culture where minimal fact checking occurs.

Very sorry to be so long-winded in the explanation. Just my take.

Chrome looks fine. Chill and in good shape.

But he paled next to Sinister Minister with his dapples and his attitude. And nice to see Lani hasn’t changed.

There’s an IG user who works at Arrow. He posts almost daily photos/ videos from around the stud… all candid and everyone looks awesome/healthy and very happy, from the stallions to the barn cats. I’m hesitant to post the username because I don’t want the psychos to get to this genuinely lovely human who also likes all the crap I post.

Can confirm Chrome looks awesome on the daily.

ETA: Nevermind they found him. Uuma1018 on Instagram for pics of happy stallions

Agreed. Lani is one of my favorites

“Besides Lasix.” So he did run on therapeutic medications, so to speak. Every horse racing out there is not drugged - which is something hardcore Chromies claim now. Because, of course, only Chrome the God had any actual talent or speed.

I worked on a TB breeding farm and prepped yearlings for the big sales… not one horse was ever “altered with pins or shims” to achieve perfect conformation for a sale. Never. The only time anything like that was done was when a foal was windswept or needed a bit of support for lax tendons etc. for a while. They were not “altered” but just supported. NEVER to “correct conformation for a sale”. Standing on the rail at at the paddock at any track will show you that… do people actually believe that every TB out there has perfect conformation? I think some perusal of the sales catalogue photos might be a good idea. Obviously minimal fact-checking has occurred. Sounds like some sour grapes from Denise Martin about others pointing out Chrome’s conformation… when did she become the doyenne of racing?

I once prepped a dark bay filly to be hauled to Keeneland for the fall sale. She was at a very awkward state of growing. She was all legs. She toed out in front. Her neck was on upside down. She was extremely butt high and hocky. Basically, she was very homely. Strangely enough, the BO did nothing to “alter” her (I guess we should have turned her neck around surgically) - she went off to the sale in great shape with a glowing coat, happy and confident… all her inconsistencies and flaws there to be seen.

CC is not the last or the first of his kind.

And I am not sure how one TB stallion is the magical key for animal rights groups to bring down racing and all equestrian events. There are many rags to riches stories out there when it comes to TB racing.
