Yes, green is the word! I think she ran an extra couple of lengths going sideways left and right.
It would be fun to see a $5,500. filly beat the best of the royally bred turf fillies from Europe.
It’s very unlikely, but it would be fairy tale-ish. How fun for her owners.
Calicoes Fragrance pp 11, wins the Kawasaki Salvia Cup in Japan.
Any idea of the type of race this is? Group 1 or Graded Stakes equivalent in Japan?
Breeding of the Dam?
It was listed as a G2
Her dam is Right There, no idea her extended pedigree looks like.
Just some extra info…
She (Right There) foaled her last foal, a full brother to Cal Fragrance on February 23.
Thanks.
She was by Eskendereya o/o a Deputy Minister mare, bred by Stonestreet, sold to Perry and Denise Martin and exported to Japan. Perry Martin was still listed as her owner when she died this year.
Cal Fragrance was bought at the 2019 Keeneland Sept yearling sale by Shadai for 180K and exported to Japan.
California Princess in Saudi Arabia
I wasn’t able to figure out what level/type of race this was, other than it has a full field.
Twitter link will take you to the replay.
She came in 11th in the B.C. race. If she’d come in 10th she would have made back almost twice her $5,500. purchase price.
She didn’t look comfortable with the footing. But maybe that’s just the way she moves naturally. I haven’t really seen her run before. However, it was a good story.
I thought California Angel had a poor ride, not awful, but it could have been better. At one point, she was on the outside coming out of the last turn and it looked like the jockey started to take her to the inside and about that time horse #2 swung out into her lane. #2 did not interfere but it looked to me like enough of a blip to affect California Angel’s momentum. I’m not saying she would have won but I was impressed that the whole group was bunched up fairly closely at the finish, which means to me that the outcome could have been different – at least to place. Pizza Bianca seemed pretty determined to win. They are all so young.
Even though she finished 11th, in all reality there was only about 4 lengths covering the entire field from 1st to last at the wire.
So maybe not as bad as her finishing position reflects
She earned an Equibase speed rating of 100 in that race (not that I understand how they are calculated, but that is not nothing!) and as noted the charts said she was 7 wide.
Midnight Chrome, a C.C. 2 year old out of a Midnight Lute mare, is entered in the G2 Remsen Stakes (1 1/8 miles) this Saturday at Aqueduct. Race 8.

He sold for 35K at the FT 2020 October Yearling Sale. Here is his walking video from the sale. https://vimeo.com/471804225/78b4e67d63
This is his 6th start. He has a maiden win on grass and a third.
Yes, I believe this is his first Stakes try so far, which was the point. ?
I know - just an observation/added info; it wasn’t meant as a correction.
There are some nice colts in the race. Do you think he has a chance?
I don’t think he’ll beat the favorite. The rest depends on whether or not he takes to the dirt in his second start on that surface.
