Can Horses eat Celery?

And if so, do they like it?

I rescued a couple of Guinea Pigs and had a coupon for celery, so I bought a bunch. The piggies like it okay, but won’t go through the entire bunch before it goes bad, and I’m not a big fan myself. I thought about taking it to the barn next time I go, but I obviously want to make sure it’s safe to feed them before doing so.

The answer is Maybe

It’s not toxic, but horse may or may not consider it food.
From reading this BB, lots of horses like bananas - field-test of my herd says

Celery is the main treat for my IR mare. I’ve found most horses aren’t too thrilled with it at first but start to like it after they’ve tried it a time or two.

Theoretically, yes, but every horse I’ve ever fed it to made a face at me and looked at me like I was an awful person.

Mine says what went wrong with that carrot? And spits it out.

Mine did that with a banana once.

Mine will mug you for a banana and he knows better.

My daughters horse is crazy for bananas and looks for any sign of yellow in my hands! Celery not so much.

Mine love bananas (and all the obvious horse treats) but celery makes mine all act like I am trying to poison them with something. I have tried several times.

I have no clue as to horses eating celery, but you know pictures of rescued g. pigs are mandatory??? LOL

My minis and pony eat celery. I use it as treats because they tend to chubbiness .

Mine will take a bite and spit it out, then get an angry face. Then he smells whatever else I give him. He loves granola bars and rice crispy treats though.

My IR horse got celery as a treat and he loved it. I’ve fed it to my other horses and they all eat it – but they are also all pretty piggy.

Serve it up with a bloody mary and they may enjoy it more

Mine love celery. I like it better. Just put some peanut butter on it and eat it yourself.

You would waste that on a horse?

I’m sure my old horse would’ve eaten it, provided it was full of peanut butter.
He loved peanut butter.

I gotta remember this for my IR horse:)

my IR horse gets watermelon rind — cut into fingernail sized pieces and mixed in with his other supplements that he was starting not to like. The vet suggested it. Turns out there is some thought the citrulline in watermelon can benefit an IR horse but the study was inconclusive that I read.

I’m not a fan of bloody marys so I wouldn’t feel bad about that one!

OMG celery and peanut butter, if the horse likes it, what a way to hide meds.

I have never tried it

My old horse loves bananas. Had one that ate orange peels
