Can we add larger stalls to the list ? The USEF rule book requires a minimum stall size of 9’ x 9’ at shows. Does anyone keep their horses in a 9’ x 9’ at home ?
Heh, I remember many years ago commenting that horses at shows wouldn’t need to be lunged to death if there was turnout available at shows, and I got sneered at. Imagine! Shows charging for turnout spaces! How ridiculous! Think of… the money… they’d make… hmmm…
Yes! This is one of the major reasons that I love showing at WEC Ohio in the summer. Not only do they offer turn out, but the turnouts are decently sized (at least in comparison to the typical round pen option that horse shows sometimes provide).
I truly hope that more shows catch on and start to offer turn out options.
I have not been to WEC Ohio yet, but WEC Ocala has an unbelievable number of paddocks. And they’re decent sized with grass, not postage stamp dirt pens.
I was looking for the transcribed version, but cannot find, but I thought this speech by Joe Fargis really captured the history and relationship of human and horse and the responsibility that the horses’ giving nature put on us.
What other domesticated animal has stood by humans and literally advanced human civilization and well being like the horse.
