Unfortunately, Milton would only be able to adorn your living room in a more, uhm “stuffed” sense
He was a great horse!!! He honestly brought tears to my eyes watching him jump! True perfection. And a real Pegasus.
I cannot believe someone fell for that! [clutching sides and gasping for air]
Great idea Merry, but why go through all that yucky science stuff when I can wave my magic wand … you want Aristos B - go look in the barn!
Haha! Elaine Boylen owns Roxdene. And to think all this time, I thought Canter owned her
O.k I’ll admit, I am the one who bought Roxdene and have plans on buying Milton next… LMAO!! I wish! Phew what a purchase!
I’m negotiating a deal on Trigger. Hush hush till it goes through you know, but right now, If I buy Trigger, they’re going to throw in 9 Western States, cos they’d be lost without their western heritage status.
I could put you in touch over Misty and the Eastern islands…
How much would that work out to per foal???
US dollars of course.
Robby – I guess instead of saying “proven” I should have said “producer.” I meant producing a foal with a record – particularly a performance record. Simply having a foal doesn’t classify any mare as a producer, in my opinion. Granted, this mare’s first foal is a yearling, coming two-year-old, but we won’t know for several more years if she can reproduce herself. I had a QH mare that was a two-time world champion, superior halter horse, superior western pleasure horse, 36 reining points, and 40 working cow horse points. She was bred to the 9s. In other words, this mare was not only beautiful, she was a star performer. We bred her six times to the top stallions standing in the nation at the time. Not one of her foals ever amounted to anything. So, I guess my point is, nothing’s a sure bet. Your odds are certainly improved when you breed a mare as fabulous as Roxe Dene, but any breeder who’s been in the business a long time will tell you, it can really be a crap shoot.
BTW, sorry for being so gullible and “falling for it,” as someone so aptly put it. I guess I wasn’t the only one, though. I’ll try to develop a sense of humor in the future.
Heidi…well bless the Canadian film industry for being so poor then…many of the more thoughtful and thought provoking movies I have seen seem to have been produced in Canada…and if not, certainly not made in the states. No, those kinds of movies don’t make big bucks, but I find them far more interesting and entertaining. And, sorry, but yes, your better looking Canucks do seem to have defected to Hollywood.
You know, I just moved into a new house, and guess who is my neighbor across the street? A fat gray broodmare named Rox Dene who still looks beautiful despite her big preggo belly and a full winter coat. Totally serious. She shares her paddock with a little, chestnut pony and another horse. It’s kinda cool to see Rox Dene checking me out over the fence every morning when I leave for work. Kinda like living next to a movie star. Hmmm, who’s she like? Demi Moore?
I’m taking American bids at midnight on MillCreek’s Raffael …
I listen to CBC broadcasts and also to As It Happens (when my work schedule allows me to stay up that late).
See, we are not all that parochial.
Fortunately, I learned about poutine on this very BB. Sooo educational.
Hey guys…Rox Dene’s owner actually IS a Canadian citizen.

LOL We’re talking 100% born and bred Canadian. Lived in Toronto from the time she was born until she was about 20 I think, went to Bishop’s Struan (sp??) School. Maybe you Canadians have heard of MJ Boylen, mining and all that? That’s her father. The rest of the family still lives in Canada, a niece is married to Hugh Graham. After living in the US all this time she still keeps her Canadian citizenship and gets quite offended if she’s mistaken for an American

LOL!!! Such a small small world - had a good long chat with Cindy @ the Royal!
I never knew you Boylans were Canadian! Yet ANOTHER thing we Canadians can be proud of … Rox Dene and Poutine - see they even rhyme
Don’t believe a word heidi says about television production in Canada - she’s really a Russian circus performer who defected while her husband was facing charges for cruelty to baby quiches. From what I understand she ran away to sell Due South, under the mistaken impression that the Mounties would protect her!
That’s so cool. For a moment there I was seeing Rox Dene as I left for work myself. What a view. Does she wave bye-bye?
Don’t be too impressed with the price tag ————— it was in Canadien $$!!!
(Just joking here…IÂ’ve always wanted to come up there and find myself a GREAT Canadian sporthorse! But if I were to do that, IÂ’d hope for the exchange rate to be twisted towards my side of the border.)

Jeez…the money people have to throw around these days…If this is true, that’s a lot of money for a horse that is essentially a broodmare, and unproven at that. Sure, she is a one-of-a-kind horse with an unparalled show record. But that doesn’t mean she can produce a thing. I’ve had fabulous show mares with tremendous records that couldn’t produce anything even resembling a show horse.

Rox Dene had a foal by Loyal Pal (TB) in 1999 and, I believe, was expecting again in 2000. She is proven. I think I also read that they had done some successful embryo transfers with her too. Could someone link to the credible source (newspaper, etc.) who disclosed that the mare had been sold? I was just telling my father (whom I’m visiting) about Rox Dene the other night and that she was pretty much priceless. I’d love to let him know what her price actually was!
Robby
Valentine…The George W thing was on “An Hour in 22 Minutes” a Canadian comedy show…my dad loves that show.
Totally twisting this thread, but there is a much better class of film and such being produced by Canadian filmmakers…they don’t have to conform to Hollywood, and can explore subjects that wouldn’t fly in the states. They can make a good movie without having to 1) blow everyone up, or 2) show everyone in bed with everyone else.

Might be a great idea for a film or book: Secretariat cloned; his “double” starts as a ringer, bettors make millions… wait… no one take that idea!

Hey now! Come clean, Merry! That was MY idea…mine mine MINE. Teach me to talk about story ideas with you on long drives to and from horse shows…
And those Canadians…they look like us, but they’re different.
