Canadian Fan Escorted from Equestrian Venue?

I tried to find something to clarify and just about every piece I could find on the internet states that it is an IOC rule that no flags other than the countries participating are allowed. It seems Scotland had a similar problem. The answer in the article is given by the president of the IOC and does not state that it is specific to the Beijing Olympics.

J Swan - do you know where I can find information on the general rules or the specific rules for the 96 games?

Man that whole country is stupid. They are so backwards animal haters and people abusers.

That may be the most pathetic thing I’ve ever read on this forum.

You need to look into government roles and differences in animal cultures before making such statements. Most chinese PEOPLE are actually very nice.
Not all americans are fat, not all british have bad teeth, not all scandinvians are blonde. It easy to base an opinion on small factors.

I’m guessing that was a joke…tongue in cheek?

If the rule is that no flags are allowed at all, then they must be enforcing that rule very inconsistently or selectively. I saw lots of flags being waved during the dressage coverage and none of the flag wavers appeared to be getting escorted out.

If that country is participating in the olympics they are allowed…Tibet is part of China so not sure why that flag isn’t allowed:lol: ok I’m being a smart ass:)

The same as that the scots, the welsh and the english are not allowed to wave their flags. I too was under the impression that only flags of competing nations were allowed. E.G. the British Flag instead of individual counties that make up Great Britian.

No. It’s this small minded narrow view of other cultures that cause the division, suspicion and hatred among the peoples of this world.

Every nation has its strengths and weaknesses. It’s good and bad points. But China is more than a government. It’s a collection of different peoples, cultures, languages and history. It’s rich in diversity.

We’re all more than the sum of our parts, and that is also true of nations.

No good is done when we diminish, ridicule or denigrate other countries. That nation is full of people who bleed the same blood as we, they have hopes, challenges, and disappointments. They love their children just like we do ours.

I agree but I took it or hoping at least that was a joke… I do have an issue with the human rights/animals/environmental record etc with China but as far as the people and much of the culture I love… I’m all over a more holistic view of healing…thank you China and of course the Tao.

I think many would agree with you.

I saw the Australians being chased around at Atlanta but the volunteers couldn’t catch them. But only the body paint guys. The big groups of people like the Japanese they left alone. We were told at various checkpoints that we could not bring flags in - but obviously a lot of folks weren’t caught.

Guess it’s easier to deal with one or two spectators rather than try to escort 50 people out.

Bet you the volunteers thought it was stupid to ban flags so they weren’t going to kill themselves trying to track all you rebels down:lol:

Heck - I just wanted to hang out with the Aussies and New Zealanders because they obviously had a stash of beer along with their flags! And the blue paint - how’d they get that through?

They sure had a lot of fun - it made dressage day quite colorful.

Actually - the whole Olympic experience was quite memorable. It included greasy chainmail, me sitting in a closet with a hatchet trying to scare away some animal trying to get into the cabin, a friends rather unfortunate encounter with unripe peaches, a crazy woman throwing rolls of toilet paper, and horses horses horses.

Flags just added to the whole experience… but they really weren’t supposed to be there. I’m saving the details of the chainmail/peaches/toiletpaper stories for my memoires.

Ha! I have not been in the closet for MANY years!!!

I had the dubious pleasure in 1996 of escorting Andrew Nicholson (plus several others) off the XC course.

For sure yesterday during the dressage I saw a flag of St George (at least one) being displayed. (the flag of England which makes up part of the Union Jack).

Those crazy Canucks!

Are you sure that wasn’t the flag of Georgia?
