My question, why not Bentley’s best?

My question, why not Bentley’s best?
maybe because he’s greener and his xc record is spotty?
Perhaps his rider had some say since she has four horses qualified. What the heck would I know, anyway.
Probably has something to do with who owns what horse too… who can afford to send the horse etc
Don Good Owns Bentley and Rotti. I’m sure he’s a little ticked off… or really ticked off. He’s quite the competitive owner.
My guess is Benny is too green in the ‘selectors’ eyes. But really, can we rely on the selectors since they keep making a mess during every selection.

So now you are insinuating that the only reason that exceptional little mare is on the team is because her owners ‘bought her the spot’?.
Am I reading you correctly?
Just FYI her owners are also her breeders, middleclass people who bred their daughter’s event mare, and who had faith in the foal, and have put their support - and paid the freight- behind her every step of the way.
But go ahead, and denigrate the mare in this way by implying she didn’t deserve a spot on the team based on her ability.
Also, Don Good (also a former client of mine who bought a horse who went Advanced from me ) has no shortage of money and owns Pavarotti and Bentley and as LadyB said is a very competitive owner.
I don’t think “who owns what horse (and ) who can afford to send the horse etc” plays a part but rather who the rider and selectors feel has the best shot.
A Little Romance has demonstrated her athleticism, her courage, honesty and consistency, time and again.

Based on my own limited reading of the publically available information on the results of JP and each of her horses in the past year, I would have been surprised if she had been named on anyone other than A Little Romance.
ALR has the most consistent results than her other mounts. The mare was named to the WEG team before a mishap just before shipping. The only reason why Rotti was sent to WEGs.
Blue has proven herself time and time again. She’s the little mare that can. I highly doubt its because of the owners. I’ve met the Leschied’s and they are definitely very kind people who aren’t wealthy. They’ve worked their way to get Blue here. They’ve done an exceptional job.
I hope JP and ALR blow everyones minds in Rio!

Holy god re freakin lax!!! I know you are always on my case over my comments about JP but frig this is overkill.
First of all I wasn’t the one questioning her choice of horse so lay off me…
Second of all it was merely a comment of what might be driving her choice.
As we aren’t in the inner workings of these riders all we can do is speculate which is what happens when athletes ride at the Olympic Level. You play in the big leagues and people are going to talk about you and the sport. It’s normal commentary in any other sport and eventing seems to be the only one where God forbid you ever question or comment on any athlete.
I wasn’t insinuating ANTHING about the mare not being a good choice. I don’t know the breeders personally as you obviously do. Sorry that she isn’t my coach and I didn’t own the sire of her chosen mount and have insider info. Get off my case.
Anyone interested in following the preparations of Selena O’Hanlon can read here:

(Oh, sorry was there yet another fight about JP brewing here AGAIN? May I change the subject again to something more civilized?)

Quoting from the most recent post: "It has been a stressful build up to the announcement and I hope that all the drama that has taken place will not fracture the team in any way. It’s a good team as declared but my heart goes out to Kathryn Robinson, I wish she had not been put through this, it has to be really really awful to have this happen to you TWICE.
I don’t think I would want to be a selector. It’s a very very difficult task.
Woody is in good form and he has been practicing his Samba. He leaves here on Wednesday for the first leg of his journey to Brazil. He is going to Florida for Training Camp which begins on the 24th then they fly to Brazil on the 30th. The late date of the announcement has not left us much time to do anything extra but we are doing a little bit of fund raising as best we can. Our raffle tickets are $20 each and we are only selling 250 tickets. The first prize is a really beautiful jump designed and painted by artist Elizabeth Hay to be the ‘Foxwood High Jump’. I have already bought my tickets as we would very much like to keep it here! Other prizes include a lesson from Selena, a clip for your horse by Anne Marie, and two hay nets by Haysmart
We will take email payments and we will email you back a photo of your ticket stub. The draw will take place on July 30th, the day the horses fly. The email address is eventer6@gmail.com."

First of all, if you compare my post and your response, I don’t think I am the one who needs to “re freakin lax!!!”
Secondly, I am not “always on your case”. You make lots of comments I don’t bother to respond to.
It does seem that you like to make snarky comments and insinuations and act like you are in the know, but when you are called about those comments pull out the ‘poor me, I didn’t say that, Victim Card’ and go on the offensive.
“Normal commentary?” fine and dandy. But if you are free to make comments and insinuations others are free to respond.
And as you may have noticed, I wasn’t the only one to interpret your comments the way I did, others did too.

I’ve seen pics of that jump, and it is gorgeous! I’m going to be buying some raffle tickets too. Thanks for posting the info devvie.

You also might have noticed in this thread that others agreed that JP had fallen off a lot in the last few months, and that others also wondered why ALR vs. some of JP’s other qualified mounts. It doesn’t mean those people don’t like a ALR, she’s a lovely mare.
It does seem sometimes, at least to me, that you follow Jealoushe around waiting to pounce on anything she says about JP if it less than positive. Look, we all agree JP is a great rider and tends to deliver when it really counts. It doesn’t mean she’s perfect, nor does it change the fact that she’s fallen off a lot in recent months, and that her season running up to the Olympics would have, without doubt, left her off the team of many countries with a good bench. Even knowing she tends to be a good clutch performer. There is nothing offensive in any of these observations, yet they seem to be highly offensive to you??
Alas, this is the difficulty and hence the problem with chats, emails, texting, etc., there is no way to check with the other person if you are interpreting their comments correctly. Lack of face-to-face makes getting accurate feedback almost impossible. Therefore, what happens is that we interpret what the other person is saying based on our own biases, beliefs and values.
I too have been offended by some comments, but when I take a look at the comments again I realize the issue is more with my interpretation (my feelings, my beliefs, my thoughts, my values, etc.) rather than the observations of another. Is it because I don’t like this person or I believe that I’m in the right or this person’s beliefs are not in line with mine. (And sometimes, just sometimes, I am correct when I am offended because the person is just being malicious. :() Anyway, those are my thoughts regarding how this “scrap” has developed - not malicious, just a lot of passion mixed with observations.
When you see how this has all played out with the national organizations and the players, there would obviously be some tensions all around - give the breeder of the selected horse some slack. There is so much more to selection than can be cut and dried.

Yep tension all around - but I don’t think everyone is/was aware that “Fred” is the breeder! (If I’ve just now done my homework right ;-)?)

Thank you to Foxtrot’s and canuckeventer, however I am not the breeder of ALR, her owners and breeders, and the people who have had faith in her right from the beginning, are Don and Anita Leschied.
I am merely the owner and breeder of her sire, A Fine Romance.
To baywithwhite - I assure you, I have better things to do with my time than “follow Jealoushe around waiting to pounce”.
How very ludicrous. But you are entitled to your opinion.
I stand corrected but you do have a connection via “A Fine Romance” and therefore lies your passion, :)!
I, for one, am so looking forward to the Olympics starting and putting all of this “to rest” so to speak. Excited for our team - riders, horses, coaches, grooms, vets, farriers, parents and supporters - let them do and be their best - regardless of our personal opinions! Go Canada Go!
