Canadian Olympic Team - who do you pick?
Did anyone see this gem on the EC website? They claim they hadn’t finished with all the qualifying competitions on the 28th??
"Equine Canada Hi, Pamela,

Thank you for your interest in the Canadian Equestrian Team! We understand your frustration in not knowing who has made the Canadian team for Rio. We assure you it is not information we are withholding. While speculations have been made by media outlets as to the members of the CET, the team has not yet been finalized. In fact, there are still qualifying competitions to come, and an official selection process followed by EC and the Canadian Olympic Committee. Please rest assured that on July 14, the team list will be finalized and an announcement will be promoted far and wide on EC’s digital media platforms, including the website and social media channels.

If you have any other questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us at communications@equinecanada.ca.

I notice that this post and the others that commented in a similar vein have been deleted from the EC facebook page…
So, Stuart was Canadian then American and then Canadian again?
I don’t know if there is anyone else though.
Well, it’s the 14th. C’mon EC! Let’s hear it.

Posters are pretty frank in their opinions of certain people on this drama, but the selection committee has not been mentioned, or are they a secret, too?
I had mentioned who the selectors are, only know of a few, but Ozzie, Clayton, Fleur and Jen Holling are selectors.

Today we get to see EC’s new logo!! I’m so excited. And also find out the team… can’t wait for this shit show to begin.

He was British to start with.

Your Canadian Team Is…

Rebecca Howard and Riddle Master
Colleen Loach and Qorry Blue d’Argouges
Selena O’Hanlon and Foxwood High
Jessica Phoenix and A Little Romance
and
Kathryn Robinson and Let It Bee as your Reserve

It is awesome we have a full team of women.

Would love to know what the appeal was over and how they can force the selectors to change their mind… not sure if we will ever get to know.

Best of luck ladies!

Didn’t someone say they have to publicly post the appeals?

Eventing Connect says:
The details of the appeal will be published on the website of the Sport Dispute Resolution Centre of Canada (SDRCC) in the next few weeks.

They don’t have to but they usually do apparently.

Congratulations and Best of Luck to them all!

On a personal note, I am very proud, and quite emotional.

OT, but it’s kind of sad that Captain Canada isn’t on their jumping team, although his daughter is.

I believe he had said his 2012 Olympics would be his last?

By all accounts Ian intended on continuing his Olympic streak this year, but his top horse Dixson underwent sinus surgery this winter and is still out of commission.

Good to know, glad to know he will continue to keep aiming for the Olympics.

It does not bother me in the least that Ian Millar is not on the team - he’s had his time. Amy gets to go. When it comes down to it, it is a tough cut at this level
and the best of the best get picked with the best chance of getting a medal, regardless of who you are. He’s had an unbeatable run, I would think.

I thought Ben Asselin had had better results than Amy frankly. Interesting to note though that, except for Amy, the others and the reserve have all trained with Eric!!! Good job Eric!! and Good luck Team Canada!

Ian has said he would go to Rio either as a competitor (with Teddy), as a trainer/father or as a commentator… He said too that whether he went 10 or 11 times, it did not matter, but going a FIRST time, is wonderful. So, way to go Amy!
to quote Ian "“My son [Jonathan Millar] and daughter both have a strong possibility, so I go as a rider, I go as a trainer or I go as a father,” Millar said prior to the team being named. “I’m still going to go. If all else fails, I’ll go as a commentator.”

Ben had good results in Florida, but terrible results at Spruce. He had more faults then both Amy and Kara in the big classes, and Veryron also got eliminated a couple of times. If Makavoy hadn’t gotten injured he definitely would have been in the mix.

Ian has an unbeatable record and earned his place in history - but his Olympic results have not been so stellar - a team medal in HK I think (correct me because I’ve not looked it up).

Back to selectors - who, after the recommendations, actually makes the decisions land signs the paper? I don’t like the silence.

back to eventing…I love ALR but wonder why she was chosen of Pavarrotti, with his exceptional dressage skills…

My guess? Time penalties [note, as with any horse in contention, there may be soundness issues that aren’t public]

https://data.fei.org/Horse/Performance.aspx?horseFeiID=CAN40285 - Pavarotti

https://data.fei.org/Horse/Performance.aspx?horseFeiID=103MP11 - A Little Romance

On stats alone, which obviously aren’t the whole story, Pavarotti’s best CCI3* score is a 62.70. A Little Romance has twice finished a CCI3* on a more competitive score - 53.20 last fall at Galway and 59.80 in 2014. Her dressage scores are not as good - but Pavarotti has never made time at any CCI3s. Both his outings at that level have about 15 pp on xc for time. That bridges the dressage gap pretty quick. Of course, Pavarotti has jumped around a 4 track, to his credit.
